      Critical thinking is only effective if you are seeking truth. Many Critically read the Bible. Your mindset needs to be open to honestly seek Truth. Entering into a study or search already prepared to find fault, then all you will find is fault and be critical. Seek to know the Truth first and foremost and you will find it.

      I starting seeing through the garbage back in early 2020. Absolutely nothing made any sense. And when nothing makes sense, it all makes perfect sense. There are still people wearing masks, to this day. I can see if you are immuno-comprimised, but perfectly healthy people got their brains wrecked. Fear is a heck of a motivator. People used to give me all kinds of crazy looks for not wearing a mask, or for refusing the jab. Now they tell me they wished they had listened to me. It's sad to see people so lost and confused, and to have it done to them on purpose is just psychopathic.

      @MattTheBandGuy 10 месяцев назад +5

      @@ltdannicholsFormer Mormon here. It might be best to connect with someone from your church who has experience talking gently with LDS missionaries. Basically, stand firm, and hold to your beliefs. They will "bear their testimony" that they "know the LDS Church is the true church of God on the earth, today," and that "Joseph Smith was a true prophet." You can counter that by telling them that while you appreciate their sincerity, those are statements of BELIEF and not knowledge.
      Good luck!!

    • @ltdannichols
      @ltdannichols 10 месяцев назад +5

      @@MattTheBandGuy that's how our first talk went. They explained to me that since they felt an excitement deep within them one day while reading the Book of Mormon, they bear witness that it must be true. However, I can also claim that same feeling from reading the Bible, and I've met people who claim that from reading the Quran. When I asked about objective truths and evidence to base our beliefs upon, they simply said it is a mystery why God would allow people from other religions to feel that internal excitement from a differing religion. They did not seem phased by the fact that they base their faith on feeling and not on knowledge and evidence. I was actually rather surprised by this.

      Allah (al-ilah) just means 'God' in Arabic & is used by Arabic speaking Christians & Jews as well as Muslims.
      Yes, of the 100 names of the God of the Bible, some are used as expletives (though it is expressly forbidden to do so) & even using the name of Jesus (Hedhrat 'Isa) - - - considered a Prophet in Islam - - as an expletive is forbidden.
      As for Krishna, Shiva, Lakshmi et al., they are used (in often very creative though crude ways) as expletives... Though not by their devotees.
      Buddha is different, though. I haven't ever heard Buddha being used as an expletive yet. The virgin Mary, on the other hand, is a very popular expletive (as are the names of Saints, Devas, Orisha, et al) in some parts of the world.
      If you want to find other examples, you don't need to look far. Just search for expletives in (pre-Christian) Greece, Rome, Ireland (the Irish ones are as creative as they are poetic, a tradition that still seems to remain on the island), et c.

      @@CalledUntoHolinessI can tell you for me it was the Book of Mormon. When I realized that the Book of Mormon taught a different doctrine than what we actually practice in the LDS faith it caused a lot of cognitive dissonance. The Book of Mormon clearly teaches salvation through faith in Christ. No mention of temples, no mention of priesthood authority, no mention of a one true church. I still love the Book of Mormon in the same way I love CS Lewis. There are certain concepts in there that are wonderful. However, everything I read must align with the New testament's teachings otherwise I toss it out. The main issue I see is that the church follows the teachings of Brigham Young. When I went to the source documents what I found was that Brigham Young taught a very different doctrine than Joseph Smith did. Further most of the books I've read about Joseph Smith are based upon information that would never stand up in a court of law. When you actually look at primary sources Joseph is a much different character. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but as I've reviewed credible sources it appears that Joseph was never a polygamist. Shortly after Joseph died polygamy exploded and Brigham Young took the reins. Joseph struggled with money his whole life, and after his death, Brigham Young became a millionaire.
      The other thing that swayed me was the doctrine part of the Doctrine & Covenants which the LDS church removed in the 1920s. The original Doctrine had to be removed because it didn't align with the teachings of Brigham Young. I discovered that the church we have today was heavily influenced by the corrupt teachings of Brigham Young.

    They've seen the punishment that occurs when you associates with those who don't agree with the powerful ones.

    Melissa, in approx. 28 min you did a great job at laying this down. In my witness to our local cult, I've been accused as a purveyor of hate and a "liar". It's sad and fascinating at the same time. Religious cults are ruled spiritually by a fallen entity of the kingdom of darkness. Make no mistake, they are ruled by that kingdom. The puppet is the charismatic/authoritarian human leader. The victims, the serfs, are the congregants who are lured or born into that false, flawed and fatal system. There is another point concerning cults that is notable; the identities of cult members morph into the identity of their fallen spiritual leader. Cult members become an extension of that dark kingdom; all it takes is a little scratching of the surface and it comes out.

Maybe it wasn't communicated directly, but it was inferred. I know people who have a fear of listening to someone who disagrees with their leaders. I appreciate this so much! I am an absolute believer in Jesus Christ and I love The Lord. But I can't make myself go to church or to trust church people, and I've always wondered what was wrong with me.
    The church I was raised in was exactly how you describe a cult! It was called a Baptist church but all of the elements of a cult were there. We were told the preacher was the mouthpiece of God and anything he said was from God.
    It sounds easy to say, "ok then, now you know the truth, so you can be free from all that". But that's not true at all! I am still very much influenced by this spirit of "what if they were right?", and it's scary! I actually have psychological problems from those yrs. I have huge anxiety issues, including horrible panic attacks because of the picture of God that was ingrained in me as a child. And I see church people as smiling as warm to your face, but demonic and scary with evil motives just below the surface.
    I wonder sometimes if I'm really saved because it feels like I'm in rebellion to God and the truth because of the things they told me. I remember reading passages like, "whom the son sets free is free indeed" or "you will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee", and thinking, "that's not true!!! My mind is constantly on you and it torments me!"
    Thank you so much for making this video! I've never heard anybody validate these things. Please pray for me that I can be set free from this evil spirit that is still with me at 60 yrs old!
    Thank you in advance,
    ~Tony Phillips

    • @Michael--12
      @Michael--12 10 месяцев назад +8

      Hey brother Tony, how are you today?
      I will definitely pray for you today.
      I find the scripture you pointed out interesting. But first I want to remind you that Jesus gave us power over all our enemies, even over evil spirits. Cast out that evil spirit, and demand it back to where it came from, and command it not return, in the name of Jesus Christ. ( Yes God gives us that power, but we must do it in His name.)
      " Perfect peace, who's mind is stayed on Thee. ". The, " Thee ", is Jesus , Jesus is the living word, the Bible, so we need to stay in the word of God if we want that perfect peace.
      " Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed" is from John Ch 8:36.
      John Ch 8:32 says" and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. ( Jesus is the truth, His word is truth. ) We must meet the condition in the prior verse to be set free by the truth . John Ch 8: 31 Jesus said, " If ye continue in My word, ( the Bible ) then are ye My disciples indeed, "
      So to be set free, and have peace of mind, we need not to listen to some man behind a pulpit, nor attend a certain church, or go to church once or twice a week nor attend a certain denomination. But rather we we need to read and study our Heavenly Father's Word so we may have a peace of mind and know what things will befall us tomorrow, and what things will transpire in the future. This is how we are set free.
      2 Thess Ch 2:15 -- Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed ( confused ), rightly dividing the word of truth.
      I hope and will pray that this scripture will help you out a bit. Have a wonderful day, and our Heavenly Father's blessings to you, and yours.

Also your recommendation for the book ‘Tactics’ by Greg Koukl, I’m super grateful- that’s also been a fantastic tool to have when witnessing!

    Invited to think critically I want to point out a logical error you make in the end. The fact that separate cults share the same BITE characteristics does not mean there is some underlying behind the scenes coordination going on. It merely implies that for a cult to be successful it has to do these things right. The other ones just don't make it. It's like evolution. Also the BITE model is derived from studying successful cults. Not the other way around. So naturally they all share those features.
    Thank you for this otherwise very clear and enlightening video. It's very important to be aware of this because it is rampant in society today. Very much so in the political realm rather than the religious.
    And as an unnecessary, possibly unwanted, yet totally sincere compliment I wish to say that I find you a stunningly beautiful woman.

      There are a lot of mind games played with tithing in churches that preach on it. One way to prevent this is to reject the Sermon as a normative weekly practice because it doesn't let the brethren treat each other as equals. Jesus said 'let no call you rabbi, for there is one teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren' .
      I'm not necessarily calling churches that preach tithing in an unhealthy ways cults, but it's not healthy and does make abuse quite possible. Hmmm...

    Good presentation. I was once in a small town (more churches than people) and if you asked one person about another's congregation the answer was "That's a cult." You could walk down the street, ask and get for the next one "cult, cult, cult ... ." People need to know what to be cautionary. Moreso they need to follow the legitimate Biblical translations, and more-so have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and a baptism of His Holy Spirit. It's that simple. No, I am not starting a cult.

Mostly because the leaders are human and humans have egos. No one really wants to be questioned or challenged. 23:25 that's self-inflicted anxiety and not by the group and thus not cult-like behavior. that is what needs to be isolated... not that you are in a cult cause of your actions. but the groups response to critical thinking, doubt, or any other form of wavering. if they attack and don't apologize later and make proper amends... you are in a bad relationship. if you have them then tell you to better fit their mold... it is a cult if they hold you hostage.

    I think you’re spot-on with everything you’ve said here, Melissa! 🎯💯 Something that I also have noticed recently is that many of these kinds of tactics are being implemented in mainstream conservative evangelical churches as well which is disturbing. We have so many Christians who are frankly just lazy in reading & studying their Bibles, & it’s easier for them to just take the word of their leaders as correct, trustworthy, & Biblical, but even lifelong Christians can be sucked into New Thought & New Age practices because the enemy is subtle, inserting just enough “truth-sounding” into devotional books & “Bible studies” to sound legit & lead people down a wrong path. If those who are aware of these things even dare to mention the dangers or even question, they are often labeled as troublemakers or somehow “less spiritual”, or a conspiracy theorist, or viewed as trying to be a “know-it-all” because certainly these “leaders” know better & are more spiritually mature, etc. It’s almost as if someone’s position in the church makes them automatically infallible in the eyes of the congregation, but if things don’t match up against the standard of the Word, we are to discard it. In the meantime, these leaders end-up leading people down the same wrong path with them because Christians aren’t guarding their own hearts & testing things against the Word in these last days. One area I’ve noticed that is really taking root is all of these people reading the writings of “the desert fathers” & other mystics such as St. Teresa of Avila, Brother Lawrence , St.John of the cross, etc., to be taken as an example from which to model one’s Christian walk. Would you perhaps be able to do a video on this topic of mysticism being embraced in evangelical churches? I think most Christians are unaware of how these false teachings are infiltrating the church & are tied-in with New Thought/New Age/gnosticism/experiential belief over the truth of scripture & Christ alone. Thanks for your consideration for content.💜✝️

      @@scotzmnswife Yeah but I also feel that we should pray for our leaders because its a really hard job and people have so many expectations from them. I have seen some of the youths really getting impatient with the pastor for not satisfactorily answering their queries. I know from my own experience as to how difficult it is to satisfactorily answer some of the theological questions on the spot.
      The young pastors especially need prayers and support from the others in the church who are more mature in age and experience. Unity is so much important in the body of Christ. Getting offended is so easy but it creates so much disharmony and pain. Love covers a multitude of sins which should be the bottomline of every ministry to grow successfully. No pastor is perfect and no congregation too. So we all need each other to cover others imperfections.

I think it’s an arc church. The sermons usually have 2 scr. Ref. Taken out of context and twisted or allegorized to mean something different. And everybody thinks it’s just great revelation. It took me years to renew my mind. What I found tho even in your charismatic churches may not be full blown occult but have bad theology. Such as you believe you are healed but if you aren't fully healed that's on you which I believeis word of faith doctrine. It took me years to get out of that thinking. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. And it was my fault I wasn't healed. But I began ti understand the depression came from alot of the abuse within this occult I came out of then further wounding came through word of faith movement. Crazy times. It's a mind flip. LOL. I research alot now and I have more maturity and decernment over some of these ways.
