He may have never won a championship, but his legacy lives on with his play on the court and his humanitarian efforts in his native DRC. He is definitely one of the best basketball players of all time in my books.
I am not a B-ball fan but I am a Dikembe Mutombo fan! The geico commercial cracks me up and now I have watched this! What a MAN and Role model for 12 yr old daughter who loves to play B-ball! Thank you Dikembe!!!!
Such a historical person and figure indeed he was and still is. Sure he never won a ring but being the only one to win 4 DPOYs is something else. Those are rather small things though compared to the lives he saved and will still save with that money he earned and then donated to build the hospital in such a poor country. Such a nice man and a true role model every single milionaire athlete should look up to! All you people who make millions by playing a ball game should remember how lucky they are and give something back to the poor and average. A few millions here and there won't make an impact in your life if you give them away, just a few cars or a yacht less and that's it, but what an impact that money could have on so many lives that have not been nearly as lucky as your life. Share and show some love to people who aren't as fortunate as you are! We are together in this world! Sharing and compassion are the cornerstones of our human society! No matter what's the colour of your skin, no matter what language you speak, no matter in which God you believe in! Share and help the people that aren't as fortunate as you, make this world a better Place for everyone! MAKE A DIFFERENCE when you have the chance to do it! Be remembered because of your sports accomplishments AND in larger scale by helping those in need! BE AN EXAMPLE! Thank you for reading...
Remember his Upper Deck rookie card. I got it in a pack in 6th grade and before the internet, they were worth something. One of my favorite players of all time!!!
great words by mutombo! "not every player will get an opportunity to win a championship even thoughs who dont win their still a champion" and mutombo you are that champion! Your are champion of the world! Thanks for all you done Dikembe Mutombo!!
yeah man, you are right. he is a living legend. i am a defender in basketball, and most of the moves i learned from his moves. 8 times all star....... wow!
I watched the Bush speech live as well, the only difference is now I can watch it almost pumping my fist with joy at how we don't have him as our president.
Amazing role model on and off the court. I would love to meet him, he's doing great stuff in Africa. Although he never played for my Blazers I'll always love Mutombo. Plus he kicked some major ass in NBA Hangtime for the N64 if anyone remembers that.
