- Hey loves! I never knew that dermatology nurse practitioner was a 'thing' till my sister became one! So I decided to ask her a few questions about her profession, how she got into this specialty, and how others who are interested can, too! She even made me reconsider what speciality area i will go into as a family nurse practitioner!
P.S. please excuse my poor attempt at blurring her scrubs label, ha! I tried my best and just wanted to honor her privacy!

I am so grateful to have found your video. I am a surgical technologist and esthetician. I’m 27 and really want to have a career that I am passionate about and decided to research NP Dermatology. I had no idea that it was even a thing. Then I found your video. I also wanted to do Interior Design which is so funny your sister said that.
It’s so encouraging to see women that look like me be in positions that they can thrive in and also inform others who are maybe not sure which career path to go. Thank you both for taking the time to create this content. You are very inspiring to me.

This is so cool! I also came from a public health program and now 1 week from graduating NP school. My last rotation provided a lot of exposure to dermatology related issues such as CVD related skin conditions, skin cancer, biopsies, and cryotherapy. What I love about this video, is seeing how you utilize your health edu background in clinical practice, which is what I want to do. This is very cool, love this video a lot as I am doing more research into Derm as a specialty for me.

Im in highschool and im really interested in dermatology
Im wondering what differences there are in what a doctor and a NP does in a clinic? Do the nurses mostly work with patients? Im curious because i really could end up in either position and wanna know details thank you!!! 🤠🤠yeehaw
It depends on where you live and how much a NP can do in your state.
40-50 patients whew Chile ! This area of nursing sounds fun tho.
I just want to say thank you to you and your sister for sharing this information! This is great advice! I am currently in NP school for my FNP and would like to explore derm as a specialty when I graduate in May. If you don't mind me asking, do you know what continuing education course your sister took for dermatology? I am interested in doing some continuing ed before and graduation to make myself a more competitive candidate in the field, but there are SO many different courses out there, I want to find a reputable one. The course she took is no longer offered unfortunately. But there are a handful of fellowship programs in dermatology you can do after graduation. I’ll be talking more about them in an upcoming video. Consider hitting the notification bell so you don’t miss it

I know I’m very late to this video haha, but I am currently in my second semester of my ASN, RN. I eventually would love to be a Dermatology NP but very unsure of what kind of degree to pursue next, as in straight into a RN to MSN or getting my BSN then getting my MSN after. Any advice would help so much! Love your videos💗💗
id recommend rn, work for atleast a year, then bsn. itll be boost your resume any make you more competitive when job searching

Did you enroll in the derm course as a non-degree for more education? That’s a wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing some of your background. I’m currently applying to DNP programs and I have always loved skin. I live in a rural community and I know that derm may be more difficult to pursue.

I really wanted to get into dermatology but where I live there are nooo job opportunities in derm for RN’s or NP’s!
I wanna do this omg, I’m an esthetician and I thought that’s all I wanted but I found out about this! I want to be able to administer Botox and I want to do deep chemical peels and cosmetic procedures. I love skincare. I’m confused on how to go about this because my different schools offer different type of programs.
Ex: ASN, RN-BSN
& den after that idk what to do

I'm currently in a Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this will allow me to work as a dermatology NP or should I switch to FMNP? I would like to continue this path on my education because I like to keep my future options open but I feel like dermatology is the route I want to go.

If I’m not mistaken, Yes! You will need to obtain your bachelors to continue onto further educations such as obtaining your MSN or DNP for specialties such as her’s

So I am in the process of clearing up my skin, and I feel like my dermatologist has been such a light in my life. So I am thinking of pursuing dermatology to help others who dealt with severe acne like me, and to learn more about the skin. Can you ask your sister if she ever went to school with someone in the same field, who didn’t have perfect skin but still pursued this career?
