    I spent almost 3 years travel nursing. I wanted to build up as much money as possible for me to pay for masters and a house. I know derm NP is lower pay but I want my life to be peaceful and routine.

      Just wondering, since i waned to be a travel nurse, did you like it? What were the pros and cons to it? Thanks :)

      @kdvwusm Год назад +1

      @@meg5870 pro money. That’s it. I would never do this if it weren’t for the money. Con you have a very lonely life. Get the worst patients. Everyone assumes you are a millionaire when you aren’t. You miss your family. You miss out on a lot of things with people you love. Travel nursing is not meant for long term. A lot of the nurses who do it long term are divorced. Right now you are better off as a staff. The pay for traveling is no where near COVID pay. That to me was my once in a lifetime opportunity of making that much money. Unless the world comes to end again it won’t happen.

    This was so helpful! I first found you last year when I was considering applying to UNC's ABSN program (I ultimately decided to go to a local community college for my ADN because I couldn't justify a 1.5 hour drive to and from campus for a year). I want to get into dermatology/aesthetics or maybe women's health and I keep worrying about how to get my foot in the door for fields that require experience before they'll hire you.

    Thank you so much for this video! So helpful! I want to go to FAU actually for my FNP and then do the post-grad program there! I live in the Florida Keys. I was really nervous though because they only accept 30 students once a year, so I was worried that I just wouldn't get in. I worked for a skincare company doing laser facials and helping people with their skin was the most rewarding experience I have felt as an RN. So if I do NP it would only be to do derm-- so that is why I am so nervous that I wouldn't get into FAU post-grad derm program.
    Did you feel that program was very competitive? Did you feel like it was hard to get into? Did you see people having to apply several times or not making it? What do you think set your application apart?
    Also, I am planning to try to get an internship before I start NP. I work in Hyperbarics at a hospital right now but unfortunately, the wound care department is separate. So I have some ideas for the internship and maybe you could help me decide which direction would be most beneficial/ look most appealing to future employers.
    Option 1: Would be to try to cross-train in wound care either in my own hospital (which is unlikely) or try to cross-train at a bigger hospital doing wound care.
    option 2: intern at a dermatology office (perhaps Advanced Dermatology)
    option 3: intern at a foot and ankle doctor who does a lot of diabetic foot ulcers
    option 4: a plastic surgeon's office? just because a lot of them do laser and help with scarring, ect
    Lastly, this may be a dumb question but do Derm NPs deal with non healing wounds and like nec fac and staph, etc? Or do they refer out for those things? Do they do stitches and go into surgery?
    I'm sorry for all the questions but I feel like I have no one to ask! Thank you so much for going out here and being a resource for people. It is so beyond helpful. Especially since you actually attended the program that I am interested in. I appreciate any advice that you can give me.

      Hi Gina. Thank you so much for watching. I was part of FAUs inaugral cohort so I can't speak to competitiveness. I do know its becoming increasingly popular. i imagine that if you have leads for who can possibly precept you while in the program that will give you a stronger chance of being accepted. I feel like you can go wrong with any of the option you listed! If you have an opportunity to work at a dermatology office that would be a great window to a possible future role as a NP there. We do treat wounds but I personally haven't seen a lot of that on my patient panel. we can do surgeries if trained.
      i hope that helps!

    • @ginahall820
      @ginahall820 2 года назад

      @@NurseAggz Yes. Thank you. That is very helpful! When you say leads for preceptor do you mean during Clinicals for FNP? Did you do your clinical hours in Derm during FNP?
      Does the post grad Derm FAU program match you with Derm preceptors? I wonder if they have a list online if their preceptors.
