  • Scariest thing to happen while Solo Camping. I had to leave... First time I have EVER done this while Motorcycle Camping. The older I get, the more I come to terms that I can't just do things the way I once could. Spending all day in the heat and Sun once again took a toll on my health. Right before dinner, I started developing a pretty severe headache. Thinking I was just thirsty and hungry, I began prepping my meal while chugging some water. Halfway through dinner I was unable to keep eating. Nausea got worse and I laid down for about 30 minutes. The pounding in my head got so bad I finally got up and started packing. I typically ALWAYS have ibuprofen on my bike, but forgot to swap it over to the Himalayan. After I started shaking, I knew it was time to go home. This campground has no cell service and I wasn't loving the idea of not being able to contact someone if I needed help. Luckily, my neighbor had some Motrin and offered me some. That legit saved my butt during the long ride home. LESSON LEARNED!

When you started describing your symptoms I thought dehydration and heat exhaustion. Drinking those few beers compounded the dehydration. When I was doing century bicycle rides I would carry powdered electrolyte drinks and mix about half strength. After the rides between each alcoholic drink have a glass of water. I started doing this after having problems once and never had them again.

Your headaches definitely came from the duraflame logs . They contain carcinogenic PAHs. More of a problem is the list of “proprietary” ingredients and materials used in Duraflame’s starter logs. In addition to the petroleum-derived paraffin wax, there are also other chemicals used to quicken flame production, color the flames, make crackling sounds, bind the materials together, and more. In most cases if you just put it in a fire pit and you are not hovering over it cooking you are not going to get the fumes in your lungs but being close to it like you were you got a bunch of harmful chemicals in your lungs . symptoms of breathing fumes from the duraflame logs are headaches, dizziness or nasuea . Don't use the logs to cook with just use them to start a fire and then cook on the fire .

Hi Jess. Really sorry you got sick and had to shorten your camping trip. Just a heads up, when dehydrated, alcohol is not the best thing to use, especially in the heat. You need just lots of plain water. Sorry to be a wet blanket!

  • @TheZenful1
    @TheZenful1 Год назад +62

Major bummer you had to leave. Heat exhaustion and dehydration is NO joke at all. I've been told that one's tolerance for both of those lessens each time your body is put through it. When riding, it makes me plan to drink even when I don't feel thirsty (and keep several electrolyte packets with) and deal with making more restroom stops if I have to because the alternative can be VERY BAD. Glad you were able to make the trip home safely. Take care and happy, safe travels.

    You have my sympaties.
Last summer, I got what I thought was food poisoning on the third day of a moto camp and decided to ride home ... it took seven hours to break camp followed by 130 miles plus ferry crossing. It turned out to be gastroenteritis - that was one journey NOBODY wants to see on video, and even now I'm still amazed I made it.
Two weeks later I tried again, riding like crazy to get to a friend in Denmark as fast as I could. Just as I got there on the third day, a death in the family meant I had to ride 1,000 miles in a day and a half to get home.
So anyway, I'm trying again in 10 days from now - wish me luck!
(PS- migraines: talk to your Doc about gabarpentin. It's a life changer).

Today, however, I'd be a little nervous about being alone - the world has changed significantly since then. I'm curious to know if you have felt nervous about camping alone. Someone may have mentioned this already, we absolutely depend on our cooling vests when riding in sun... you soak them in water then wear them under a mesh jacket - they don't feel wet but as the water evaporates it REALLY cools you down. Ours is by Hyperkewl but I know there are many newer brands /types now. Glad you were able to get home and heal quickly! 👍🤗🙏

Stumbled on your channel. Love that your on a bike. You don’t see that much with people going camping! Stay safe. Could you have go where there was service and call for help to get back home? That’s scary your driving not feeling good.

Great video. I've had the same issue, honestly mine happened after a couple beers, I think the beer triggered the headache 😢 and yup sunshine, 🤒 I'd have stayed the night myself knowing I'd feel better tomorrow. You did awesome knowing your body. Best wishes for more adventures

You really should see a doctor about this issue you have, it seems like there may be an underlying problem you don't know about. I wish you the best and I love your videos.

I had this happen on a ride. I ended up stopping at a hotel it was so bad to sleep it off. I believe I had heat exhaustion as well. I definitely didn't drink enough during the day.
Glad you made it home safe.

Hello Jessi...you sounded like Beth at the beginning of this wonderful video...need to add a boonie hat to your camp gear for those sunny days...totally understand about being out in the sun because I have to limit myself to exposure also...glad my migraines don't happen often but are definitely debilitating when they happen... with much love and understanding from your neighbor❤❤❤

I just turned 70. My brother passed away and his services were in California but i live in Texas. I rented a car, drove straight thru but it was 116° thru the states. The A/C went on my rental and started to get sleepy in the middle of the day. It was dehydration and heat fatigue. It came on so gradual, i didnt identify what was happening until i was smack in the middle of my trip. I barely arrived at the Services. I ate apple, a banana, an electrolyte cold drink and immediately i started to feel better. It scared me to death. On my trip back home i ate fruit all thru the drive and drank Gatorade and electrolytes and tons of water. That got me back home safe. But i slept for almoat 20 hours. Be careful when out in the sun
Dont underestimate, stay ahead of the game
Take care of you. God bless you. Im a biker too.
