    Hey mate, I know this video is old but hopefully you see this comment.
    Don't put the new filter into the cap, push it into the housing on the engine and screw the cap down onto it. This is important as there is a small rubber grommet in the housing that can be broken off, this grommet is under a wave spring and it prevents oil drain back when the engine is shut down. If this grommet breaks, you'll run into oil pressure issues at idle. There have been a number of instances of this in the USA and Ford have been throwing parts at them until they figured out what the cause was.
    Oh and the point of the anti drain back grommet being pressed down by the filter is to allow the oil to drain out of the filter housing when you unscrew the filter to change it otherwise it would be completely full.

    Regarding the oil, the new FA-4 oil specified by ford is a low High Temp/High Shear viscosity oil (2.9-3.2), where CK-4 diesel oil is in the 3.5-4.5 range. The lower HTHS viscosity is supposed to give increased fuel efficiency over CK-4 grades. The ford manual says to use CK-4 5W40 for "severe duty service", and FA-4 5W30 for normal service. To me that is ford giving the wink to use 5W40 CK-4.. the FA-4 oil is likely driven by fleet economy numbers, and will be fine to get you over the warranty period, but may not be best for the longevity of the engine. The manual doesn't specify CK-4 5W30 as you put in, however this is probably fine and a good middle ground. Ford only provides a ford Spec for the FA-4 oil (WSC-M2C214-B1), but doesn't provide one for the CK-4, but i assume that if you go that route, you should look for the WSS-M2C171-F1 spec as they had issues with normal CK-4 oils in the 6.7 and don't support it there. Being a euro engine with DPF, I wonder if an ACEA C3 5W40 low saps oil would be better?, however I think if one was to use this it could void the warranty. Some clarity from ford would be nice, but in the meantime i'm using a Klondike 5W40 CK-4 meeting WSS-M2C171-F1 in mine.

      Not quite. Different block, different crank, different pistons and rods, and a number of other pieces. It's the same basic design Ford has been making for Range Rover and Peugeot, but with specific design changes made for truck use.

      Even if it’s good .... I do not see it paying for itself in fuel savings when you account for the difference in diesel vs unleaded . Also the diesel is going to need timing belt maintenance every 150k or probably 7 yrs . Timing belts dry out and get brittle over time like any other belt. Then there’s the power difference the diesel is down a lot of horsepower over the 3.5 ecoboost and down on torque as well.... the only place the diesel wins is torque down below 2500 rpm and towing fuel economy numbers.... again the numbers don’t account for the average .70 a gallon cost difference diesel is more expensive .

      I’m interested in seeing if this engine, with proper maintenance, is capable of reaching 400k miles. Would it require bulletproofing? Etc etc...

      I own this truck and I'm approaching 10,000 miles and about to do the first oil change. Don't do it early like this guy. Also only use the proper oil. Nate in Calgary

    I’m sure the brand of the filter that ford uses is Mann it’s the same look and design in what I uses in Almost all European cars .

    Great video of the new 3.0 Powerstroke lof change. Also color means nothing with the oil, you’ll need a sample sent off to be analyzed.

      That’s not true. The dark black color of that oil shows it has excessive soot loading. Which is abrasive and destructive. That oil should have been changed much sooner. This is a common issue with EGR diesels. Which is why I will no longer buy them.

    The oil filter design looks a lot similar too a 6.0/6.4 power stroke. I pay around 30$ for a motor craft filter in my 6.0 but I've seen what a non motor craft filter does in those engines so the extra price is worth it.

    Have you had any issues with this engine/truck combo since you've had it? I'm thinking about buying one but I can't find anything out from long term owners so far. How is the MPG?(or L/Km)

      No issues at all, its too new for it. You will likely not gonna find any long term review just yet as it came out last year. I'm planning to do an oil change update next month with 15k kms on it to see if metal shavings are still there.

      I'm still driving my 2018 3.0 diesel Lion and I've had no problems at all with it. But as I'm sure you know; this motor option was discontinued almost immediately after it came out. Primarily to make room for EV's. It's a great truck but it had no market and Ford basically provided no marketing for it. And Ford had too many motor options already. It's a fun truck to drive though. And I do get the stated 25 mpg on the highway, 22.5 overall. But now with the price of diesel it is not as economical to drive as it was originally intended to be. There were several recalls, one was potentially catastrophic. But all that has now been cleared up. They are fun to drive if you can find one. Less than 5k were manufactured. Although technically offered as an option in 3 model years, Ford actually decided to kill it the same year it came out (2018 1/2-2019).

    Have the 18 3.0 every 20.000 I do a oil change and filter then flush with liquid moly pro, then change oil and filter run for 15-30 miles and change oil and filter again using hotshot diesel extreme in oil. Run so much better getting 23 mpg city / hwy mix and 30-32 hwy.

      @@MechAdventures I agree oil vacuuming the oil is not the preferred method but the Ford dealer charges $130 to change the oil so this seems like a reasonable "every other time" alternative to keep costs down. My problem is the MityVac unit tubing outer diameter is too big to get all the way down to the oil pan so I only can get 1.5 - 2 quarts out so does anyone know where you get the right diameter tubing???

      I tend to agree. I removed the drain bolt then the filter, once drain & filter replaced I added 8 liters ( 8 976 ml bottles) of F150 5W30 engine oil to bring the oil level to near the top of the "full" mark on the dipstick.

      I was going to comment that, given the metal shavings, the better practice would be to have drained the oil at the bottom in order to drain the shavings as well.

      MechAdventures “Eco-Diesel” is what they call that motor in the United States. I was curious if the T6 oil you used meets FORD WSS-M2C171-F1 oil specification for this engine. I looked it up and it does not.

      @@KeithKman this is qoute from your presented spec. "FORD WSS-M2C171-F1" "For a short period of time an oil showing CJ-4 in the API donut, without showing CK-4, would be acceptable for service even if not showing WSS-M2C171-F1" As far as T6 meets CK4 and CJ4 which T6 does, you are safe to use it.

      MechAdventures thanks for the clarification. Love your video! I actually looked into this and from the reading I have done online oil manufacturers aren’t happy with Ford because they have been all over the place with their oil specs in regards to this motor.
      My neighbor gets his F150 King Ranch Diesel in a week from Detroit and my dad gets his in 5 weeks. Your video will help us a ton on changing the oil. Thanks again! Where are you located if you don’t mind me asking?

      @@dennisschmidt975 The majority of engines overseas are done this way, and there are many benefits to a cartridge system on top of the engine. The spin on cannister filters were only designed out of convenience.

      @@dennisschmidt975 that's literally where all cartridge style filters go. It's actually pretty convenient as all the oil drains back into the engine as soon as you crack it open, and its basically mess free. It's also way easier to access and work on.
