Hey Mike, why do so many people say an ML engineer is like a software engineer, but juiced up with machine learning skills and handling deployment too? Why’s there no chat about data cleaning or SQL when talking ML engineers (except in your talks)? No shade, man, I dig your videos big time. Just a bit puzzled here.
Because there aren't that many real machine learning engineers in the real-world. Simple as that. All you need to do is to look at the job descriptions to see what companies want. It's not difficult. If you did just a little investigating you'd would see that 90% of all the ML jobs on the market want SQL.
@@thedatajanitor9537 Hey Mike, thanks for your input. Don't get me wrong, I dig your videos and it's super rare to see someone explain concepts so clearly. I've already checked Indeed. What's really bugging me is that 4 out of 5 jobs in ML engineering are all about deep learning, gen AI and LLMs. SQL does pop up, but I don't see the 90% you mentioned. Am I missing something? Cheers, and props to you!
You'll need to know the tools that are SQL without SQL being explicated stated. Here's the first job I found and it's at Home Depot. There is no SQL in the job post. If you notice... Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and AI/ML related components such as Vertex AI, BigQueryML, and AutoML.. BigQueryML is all SQL. So, there are a ton of tools that use SQL that don't say SQL. The second post was from zoom. Here... Databricks, Snowflake. The post didn't say SQL but both these tools are all SQL. The next job post is for Expedia. Here's the first bullet point. Proficiency in either Python or R, along with strong SQL skills, and the ability to comprehend and work with code written in Java. Three of the first jobs I read, every had one SQL as a requirement. You sure you read the job posts? :)
Big thanks for the detailed response - that was clutch! I was just scanning for anything "SQL" and didn't realize it hides behind so many other terms. Mind blown! I'm just so unsure because at my company, everyone is buzzing about Gen AI. It's all "Gen AI this, Gen AI that." Like, they're expecting AI to make coffee or something. It's totally freaking me out lol. Quick question: When's the next batch of your vids dropping? And what's the ETA on that ML Engineering course you teased? Best regards and thanks again!
Sure. If you're in a job the will get you interviews. If you aren't in a job, they will help a little. Without SQL experience on your resume, you won't be working as a DE.
Your videos have been eye opening for me. it takes a lot of courage to not sell courses just for profit but to actually speak the truth. I am a 2nd year college student. Would you recommend learning/getting certified in AWS/big data platforms like apache in college? or should i just focus on SQL/Power BI?
Hi, great content. I have a PhD in Physics and worked on academic ML projects, but no SQL experience so far (only python when the data is nice). I had an offer to work as a Data Scientist in a very specialised R&D department but since I didn't want to work on the modelling side (little demand on the job market) I started working as a fullstack java desktop developer a year ago. If I want to become a Data Engineer or an ML engineer long term, would you recommend applying for a Data Analyst role or a DBA or SQL developer role after doing SQL certifications? I am asking because I have programming experience and I know the theory behind ML but have no real world data skills yet.

It's fine but no one is using fabric right now. It's too new. Companies simply don't upgrade that fast. Do a search on indeed to see how many companies are using it.
Hi Mike, can you explain why we have in germany no ML Engineer as you describe him? If I search job boards like indeed etc. I find the Data Scientist who should write code in SQL and Python to clean data and build a model. And on the other hand I find the ML Engineer, who is described as the one who takes the statistical model from the Data Scientist and deploys the model. It sounds, that these are two different jobs. How can I finde a job as a ML engineer as YOU describe him (sourcing, cleansing and deployment)? I am working as a Data Analyst know.
No clue. I live in the US. If you look at the company and not the country you'll see it doesn't matter. Faker scientists are being fired in record numbers. I'm a machine learning engineer and I've never worked with a faker scientist. They get in the way of real-world getting done. Here you go. Why the fuck would I take a model from a faker scientist when all the model I use already exist? ruclips.net/video/p4GpHpq4VxY/видео.html
@@thedatajanitor9537 You unterstand me wrong. When I say, the MLE in germany takes the model from the data scientist, I mean NOT a model build from scratch like a new algorithm or so. I mean a well established model like gradient booster which is trained on DATA. So the data scientist did the data sourcing with sql and the data cleansing and trained e.g. a gradient booster like XGboost on the cleaned data. The result is a model which can predict new data points. but it has to be deployed. this is what the MLE in germany does. No one build a model from scratch in germany. A Data Scientist like YOU describe him doesnt exist in germany. A statistician without data skills and does not know SQL and has weak programming skills? What should he do? Talking? And the Machine Learning Engineer here is only for the deployment in the cloud. No Dataskills needed. Can you recommend US companies in germany?

Kaggle is a waste of time for those new to this space. The only entry level role I know of is the data analyst role. It's the best role because most shops require to learn and work with SQL heavily. SQL is one of the top job requirements for jobs as a MLE and DE.
@@thedatajanitor9537 I see. I'd prefer to go with data engineering as a stepping stone to ML roles instead of DA just because I already spent quite a good amount of studying in the DS domain. can i become a data analyst without a certificate? i know nearly everything needed for this career and i think i can work in the field. so can i find a job without a certificate.
so if someone is a graduate from university, they should not work directly to get data engineering role, but instead they should focus on data analyst skills, and get entry level position in it, make a few money in it for 2 years, then work towards data engineering, got it

BRO CAN YOU TELL ME WHICH ROLES SHOULD I LEARN TO GET ENTRY LEVEL JOB .BECAUSE DATA ENGINEER AND MACHINE LEARNING ENGINEER IS NOT FOR ENTRY LEVEL
Are AWS certifications relevant for DE?
Apply to data roles, the data analyst and MLE. You might get lucky. Yes, SQL certs will certainly help.
He has a PHD? And worked on academic ML projects yet you say “you might get lucky”
Does this mean it’s really competitive?
I am a Graduating with bachelors in Computer Science do you have any suggestions and advise?
@@arjunragu995 No one gives a shit about worthless PhDs. I promise. He either has the skills or he does't. I've yet to meet a MLE with a PhD who was worth anything.
Hello sir iam just going to put my feet in cs feald from July my undergraduate course of cs and data analytics is Going to start please guide me in which feald I put my focus more and iam a good in maths ❤
Watch my videos. You'll learn exactly what you need to do.
Will getting the Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate exam help you land a data engineering job if you have prior experience as a Data analyst?
Sure. Any cert is going to look good on your resume. Again, from the big three... Microsoft, GCP and Azure... or well known companies like SnowFlake or DataBricks.
Hi Mike! What do you think about the new microsoft certification DP-600?
It's fine but no one is using fabric right now. It's too new. Companies simply don't upgrade that fast. Do a search on indeed to see how many companies are using it.
@@thedatajanitor9537 Thanks for the advice! In your opinion, the Databricks Certified Associate Developer would be more valuable ?
Hi Mike,
can you explain why we have in germany no ML Engineer as you describe him?
8:58 Opsie moment when you pen runs out of ink 🤣 But seriously this is one of the best introductory videos of DE I've ever seen
Kindly make a video on dp 900 exam.
Thank you Mike 👍
Very welcome. Thank you for watching.
@thedatajanitor9537 hi Mike, I create graphs using Excel that generally shows the data trend on a weekly basis. Previously in a brief business analyst role in Amazon I created few SQL queries but due to some ugly office politics had to leave that role but still trying to go into Data analytics role or let's say some meaningful role that deals with data. Could you please advise me on advanced SQL course you teach in Udemy? I recently finished your t-sql course.
Thanks for the video! What kind of math does one have to know to work in data engineering?
None
thanksss for this video; i wish i knew your channel some time ago, is there a roadmap to be a data analyst using only books ?
Not that I know of
Do you recommend learning Snowflake or Databricks? If you already are an expert with SQL, how long does it really take to learn Snowflake or Databricks? How would you compare ML Engineering vs Data Architecture vs Data Engineering roles?
Either but SF is king right now.
@@thedatajanitor9537 Thank you! I just passed the Snowpro Core Certification exam. Which Snowpro "Advanced" certification(s) do you recommend: Architect, Data Engineer, or Data Scientist? Please note that I have no interest at all in being an administrator.
Also you would love Data Day in Austin, Texas
Hello sir,I am starting college in next 3months and am very much interested in the field of data.As you recommend that Data Analysis is the stepping stone for it,should I take the logikbot course of it?
(Also right now I have no skills related to it)
(Last thing should I grind on Kaggle or not,btw your video on kaggle brought me to your channel 🤞)
Thanks.😊
Kaggle is a waste of time for those new to this space. The only entry level role I know of is the data analyst role. It's the best role because most shops require to learn and work with SQL heavily. SQL is one of the top job requirements for jobs as a MLE and DE.
Ok imma focus on SQL and tryna master it.
Bro Is data scientist is a good carrer for future?
No. The machine learning engineer is. The DS job is a failed experiment.
What about data science or BI engineer roles?
DS is dead. Here, learn something novel today. ruclips.net/video/14RPhvDN4uo/видео.html
@@thedatajanitor9537 I see. I'd prefer to go with data engineering as a stepping stone to ML roles instead of DA just because I already spent quite a good amount of studying in the DS domain. My major is Statistics with DS track and it seems like DA is a downgrade compared to the skills I've learned, but DE is like trying to go a completely different direction.
The DA is a downgrade but there are no entry level DE roles. It's a top tier role like the MLE. The DA is the only entry level role.
Yesss you uploaded 🎉
can i become a data analyst without a certificate? i know nearly everything needed for this career and i think i can work in the field. so can i find a job without a certificate.
cert is for interviews, would they call you back without a cert in your resume?
so if someone is a graduate from university, they should not work directly to get data engineering role, but instead they should focus on data analyst skills, and get entry level position in it, make a few money in it for 2 years, then work towards data engineering, got it
Bingo. It's the only way I know of and the fastest.
I would really appreciate it if you apply I know you’ve said get a degree in stem to be able to get a career in machine learning but I wanted to ask if I get a degree in computer science and electrical engineering but the course content is more engineering than computing is that still a good course to purse to allow me to start for a junior data analyst then progress to machine learning
It's all about skills. Honestly, we don't care about degrees. Focus on the skills you need for a role and ignore the degree reqs.
Hello. I would like to know when learning SQL there are more than one version. Which is confusing. Which SQL is best to learn MySQL or Microsoft SQL ? Great videos.
SQL is SQL. You'll need to learn the basics. The basics are the same. The best to learn is probably SQL Server because it's the most used database on earth.
Is data engineering still going to be relevant with the rise of Generative AI?
Yep.
Oh my goodness Mike, I’ve missed your uploads!
Welcome back or welcome back to me? :)
