I just picked up all the Dragon Quest, Final fantasy, Ys, and Seiken Densetsu games for Super Famicom. This video was super helpful, and I love that you linked right to the patch files! Downloading as we speak! Thanks!
Just a quick note to give my appreciation for this video. I thought I was in trouble when I didn't get the "Game Specific Settings" menu option for my Japanese version of Chrono Trigger. However, a quick firmware update remedied that. Should be a blast to complete this game that I failed to do in 1995. Better late than never. Thanks again!
Very cool feature, especially in how easy it makes the process. I'd never considered picking up games from different regions before but I can see my ebay spending habits doubling once I pick up this bit of kit. Another good vid, cheers Gemma!.
Very helpful vid, and thanks for the link too! Been considering a Retron 5 for a while now, thinking I might finally try and save up and get one in the next couple of months.
I got the 8BITDO controller I mentioned it in your last vid. It works as a great replacement for the Retron5 controller. No wires, no terribly shaped controller. Looks just like a SNes controller and feels great.
this was great! thank you!! normally i have a lot of issues with some of these kind of tutorial videos but this was super easy!! I just got the translated patch for sweet home for the famicom it was so simple! thank you!
v cool...I think it might swing a purchase of the Retron 5 for me. Combined with the obvious convenience of having one unit in the family room rather than 4 or 5, it looks like a worthwhile purchase :)
also the reason you have two files is because Mac makes those weird invisible files that then show up on other computers as small files. I'm not sure but I think it is like thumbnail data for OSX
👍Nice tutorial! Pretty straightforward and simple. By the way do you know if there is a English translation patch for Final Fight “Guy” version out there?
Thanks soo soo much #Gemma. You really were helpful. Glad I came across this video & your channel. I wanted to get the patch for #TetrisBattleGaiden (and hopefully I can find it on that list when I go search soon enough here). 👌🏽
Hey #TheGebs24, I'd really like your help with this one for it's rather challenging... I didn't see #TetrisBattleGaiden in the J to U Translation Patches... Do you know where I can find it?
Thanks for shouting out the translation database/link I run and make and upload patches on (I'm R9delta). Glad that people are finding it useful. If you or anyone else have any conversion patch requests feel free to hit me up on www.Retro5.net
....and translation patches on the Retron 5 is that easy. I notice the R5 shows the ._files from your Mac on the SD card. Do you know about 'dot_clean' on the mac to get rid of these? Great vid as always.
Does the patch save to the actual cartridge - meaning you could then insert the cartridge into a real console and play it in English - or does it only save it to the Retron?
There's no way to patch from the original consoles? Couple of famicom and super famicom games I wanna own. Is retron 5 really worth a buy? I don't like emulating when something just doesn't run the same.
ah! brilliant, thank you x have you had any super famicom games not work? I got final fantasy (4 I think) and zelda a link to the past, final fantasy is never recognised and zelda some but not always?
Hey I have a question. Is it possible to get viruses from translation patches? I used a patch yesterday which works great my system was working fine all day and this morning all of a sudden this evening whenever I play a SNES Game the system won't recognize any of my controllers unless I use the Retron 5 controller.
I'm really thinking about getting a retron just so I can play mother/earthbound it's crazy expensive in the us and don't have the wii u so can't download it that way
Make a translation adapter, so we can plug in the Japanese SF, and at the same time add Famicom games, Floppy disc games and a better SuperGameBoy player all in one, that would be cool to have. So it can play Famicom, Nintendo, Super Famicom and at the same time translate them.
Hey! This was a really helpful video, but the mediafire link you posted isn't working. Is there any other way to get access to those files? I would really appreciate it. I ordered some SFC games, and I'd like to see if there were translation patches I'd be interested in. Keep up the good work!
Play Japanese copies with translation patches was precisely why I ended up getting a Retron 5 - now to start making some progress on these RPGs :)
+electricadventures Too true mate!!
electricadventures I use this on my RetroFreak(like a Japan cousin of Retron5).
@@esprithk which do you prefer? Retron 5 or retro freak?
Excellent! Now time to buy chrono trigger for famicon for 10 bucks instead of 150 for snes
+Shane Hadd Exactly :)
I also find Japan version Mother 2 (EarthBound) for US$5
Or you can get it for 35 like I did
Same...
I just picked up all the Dragon Quest, Final fantasy, Ys, and Seiken Densetsu games for Super Famicom. This video was super helpful, and I love that you linked right to the patch files! Downloading as we speak! Thanks!
Thanks for watching. I am glad you found it helpful
Thank you! I bought my first Famicom cartridge a few weeks back. Thanks to your video I was able to translate it and play it.
Totally welcome mate
Very cool feature, especially in how easy it makes the process. I'd never considered picking up games from different regions before but I can see my ebay spending habits doubling once I pick up this bit of kit. Another good vid, cheers Gemma!.
+Retrostasis Thanks mate. It's worth it for this feature alone!
Very helpful vid, and thanks for the link too! Been considering a Retron 5 for a while now, thinking I might finally try and save up and get one in the next couple of months.
+Big Cals World Thanks Cal :)
This is awesome, Just got my Retron 5 and picked up a Famicom and Super Famicom Game. Looking forward to playing these in English
I got the 8BITDO controller I mentioned it in your last vid. It works as a great replacement for the Retron5 controller. No wires, no terribly shaped controller. Looks just like a SNes controller and feels great.
+William Clemons NICE!! Hey great tip William. Thank you. Gemma
Finally found an ips patch that works for Chrono Trigger! You are awesome! Thanks!
Yay
This is great. I just picked up Final Fantasy VI at a convention, and I have a Retron 5!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I couldn't get Fire Emblem patch to work and was very upset. The link you posted worked !!
You are most welcome
this was great! thank you!!
normally i have a lot of issues with some of these kind of tutorial videos but this was super easy!! I just got the translated patch for sweet home for the famicom
it was so simple! thank you!
Thank you!!!!!!! Just got a box full of Super famicom for Christmas!!
This is amazing!! I just ordered my first batch of Super Famicom imports and this will be awesome to be able to play in English!!
Great stuff!!!
Wow! I still don't have a retro 5 but I didn't know about that feature. That's awesome!
Glad you found it helpful 👍
Nice one Gemma, I'll give this a whirl when my new replacement Retron arrives. All those J-RPGs I can now enjoy!!!
+mattvandam1 PURELY for the JRPGs. OH YEAH! I love translation patches haha ;)
I've got Romancing Saga trilogy I can go through now, it'll save a fortune on Western versions!
+mattvandam1 Nice one mate!

Nice guide Gemma, really helpful. Cheers John
+JAG 555 Nice one John, cheers :)
v cool...I think it might swing a purchase of the Retron 5 for me. Combined with the obvious convenience of having one unit in the family room rather than 4 or 5, it looks like a worthwhile purchase :)
+Jonathan Holt (retrogamergoonr) Nice one mate. Let me know if you get one :)
I love you!! thank you so much for the help! Needed it for my famicom collection!
That is really cool, I have few Japanese games and I have Lufia 2 and Soul Blazer auf Deutsch.
It's the coolest feature ever!
Good video, straight to the point and no BS!
Dutch Trucker Thanks
Many thanks for sharing this info! Take care.
Thank you. Now, I can play Chrono Trigger. An English copy was too expensive.
Thanks very much I found this really helpful for getting my copy of seiken densetu 3 running.
Wow, that is very cool! Thanks for this information.
+ArcadeDude44 Cheers dude.
this is an excellent video, and happy Valentine's Day youre definitely one of the sexiest gamers on RUclips, as a bonus your collection is amazing
cringe
awesome stuff and sad to see you did not win you tuber of year you deserved it.
I didn't want to take part as I didn't have the time. Unless someone big like IGN or Retro Gamer Magazine runs it it's hardly 'YTer of the Year' 😂
+TheGebs24 Still your content is the best in the community
+BUTCHER 69 That means a lot to me, thank you. Gemma
+TheGebs24 your welcome
also the reason you have two files is because Mac makes those weird invisible files that then show up on other computers as small files. I'm not sure but I think it is like thumbnail data for OSX
👍
A very helpful video! Thanks from Germany. (:
wow. Thank you very much for this. I have many Japanese SNES games that I want to add patches while playing them.
great video im glad your enjoyin your retron 5...
It's been a busy weekend lol
👍Nice tutorial! Pretty straightforward and simple. By the way do you know if there is a English translation patch for Final Fight “Guy” version out there?
Thanks for the tip, this will come in handy for the future.
+TheGabrielSin Cheers Sin.
Definitely will need that for my Retron 5. Simply and easy process.
Hey what device did you put the SD Card in order to hook it up to your computer.
+Lifespiller79 All Macs have SD card slots.
+TheGebs24 I just got a new laptop. It does have a slot at the bottom. I just thought about that. Thanks!
+Lifespiller79 Awesome!
Does this permanently patch the game or do you have to add patch each time?
Thanks soo soo much #Gemma. You really were helpful. Glad I came across this video & your channel. I wanted to get the patch for #TetrisBattleGaiden (and hopefully I can find it on that list when I go search soon enough here). 👌🏽
Update. The patch(IPS) cloud drive link is a step ahead. i click "my files" to move back to Main. and I just download 3 main folders(by zip).
odd, when i do this, i get a red screen on Genesis games, and on any other system, black screens
Thank you for the patches!
I didn't upload them...just help to navigate people to them :)
Thank you regardless!
Creating your own patch is pretty easy too if you can't find a patch :) Should do a vid on that next
I'll leave that one to you Marc haha
haha touch'e
are there any super famicom rpgs or Japanese exclusives that you recommend?
You should do a review of the gamefreak. I'm considering getting that instead of the retron 5. I want to see an honest comparison.
BTW. Thank you for this walkthrough.
+Alan Galeana You're most welcome
Hey #TheGebs24, I'd really like your help with this one for it's rather challenging... I didn't see #TetrisBattleGaiden in the J to U Translation Patches... Do you know where I can find it?

+SegaGaming I don't usually approve of people posting links but this is damn cool. Thank you for the addition.
Nicely explained Gemma pretty simple
It's super easy Dave 👍Cheers
....and translation patches on the Retron 5 is that easy. I notice the R5 shows the ._files from your Mac on the SD card. Do you know about 'dot_clean' on the mac to get rid of these? Great vid as always.
I use Clean My Mac. 👍
Does the patch save to the actual cartridge - meaning you could then insert the cartridge into a real console and play it in English - or does it only save it to the Retron?
Thanks for the tutorial. Now can I play the cartridge of the Japanese game in English on a Super Famicom? Or does the patch only work on the Retron 5?
one question do i download media fire to use the content or do i sign with facebook in the direct website then get the patches in my computer
Will these work on an as card for my Analogue Super NT?
There's no way to patch from the original consoles? Couple of famicom and super famicom games I wanna own. Is retron 5 really worth a buy? I don't like emulating when something just doesn't run the same.
Can you do this with a Flash drive or does it need to be an SD card
Awesome Gem!!
Cheers bud
Its asking for a pro account on media fire, isnt possible download for free???
ah! brilliant, thank you x have you had any super famicom games not work? I got final fantasy (4 I think) and zelda a link to the past, final fantasy is never recognised and zelda some but not always?
+keith parish Every game I've tested works great mate :) :)
+TheGebs24 ah I bet I have dodgy carts. boo.
Also medafire is not allowing any downloads of these patches now
Maybe now il try and get clock tower for the super famicom 😃 thanks for the video
Great idea
TheGebs24 Does that final fight 2 patch only adds the english text from the us version? or does it add the censorship from it too?
Hey I have a question. Is it possible to get viruses from translation patches? I used a patch yesterday which works great my system was working fine all day and this morning all of a sudden this evening whenever I play a SNES Game the system won't recognize any of my controllers unless I use the Retron 5 controller.
I have never heard of viruses from the patches. Try and update the R5 softwarre
I'm really thinking about getting a retron just so I can play mother/earthbound it's crazy expensive in the us and don't have the wii u so can't download it that way
That's all I'll use the Retron 5 for. Playing the more obscure titles on the Super Famicom 😊
Love rock intro😎🙏
Make a translation adapter, so we can plug in the Japanese SF, and at the same time add Famicom games, Floppy disc games and a better SuperGameBoy player all in one, that would be cool to have.
So it can play Famicom, Nintendo, Super Famicom and at the same time translate them.
what type of sd card do i use for this
Nice one Gemma
Damn, I need to get a Retron 5 now.
GO for it
Hey! This was a really helpful video, but the mediafire link you posted isn't working. Is there any other way to get access to those files? I would really appreciate it. I ordered some SFC games, and I'd like to see if there were translation patches I'd be interested in. Keep up the good work!
+islandisliving Hi. I've re-published the link in the description and it works great now. Try it and let me know :)
Hey there! Thanks so much for the update. The link is functioning well :D I'm really looking forward to trying these out. Thanks again!!!
