    Hi B! I think that you are the first gardener that thought about their guests first. My wife is handicapped and so I try to plant in raised containers so that she can plant, harvest and enjoy just as much as I can. I am so glad I stumbled onto your channel...I'm hooked. Cheers from Down Under!

      Hi Craig! Thanks for visiting my channel. I often want to cover ever square inch with plants and flowers but I also want to share my space with others and I absolutely want them to be comfortable and be able to move about without worry. It’s so awesome to hear that you and your wife can share in the joy gardening! Be well!

      Wow Craig, this post made me cry. I’m dealing with a spine injury (it’s going to be ok, just difficult) and your sweet kindness towards your wife made me cry happy tears. My husband is wonderful too and it just warms my heart to see your love and consideration for yours. ❤️🌱

    I do all my root plants in extra large grow bags. The potatoes really love them, great drainage, great airflow. This year I am also trying garlic and onions in grow bags. Also like to mention I am on my third summer using the same grown bags

    • @BBettaGarden
      @BBettaGarden  6 месяцев назад +2

      🙌🏽 on using the bags multiple years! If you remember, I'd love to hear how the garlic does. I've tried two years and I think the bags get too wet in Chicago's winter causing the cloves to rot. 😌

    Kale, collards, lettuce, etc don't require pollinators, so I cover mine in tulle. No leaf damage.

    • @BBettaGarden
      @BBettaGarden  2 года назад +4

      Same here with the tulle. I was experimenting last year to see how well some of those veggies do without covering.. No really, the veggie that was uncovered and had the least damage was curly kale and my lettuce always does well uncovered. But the rest..oh me oh my…luckily there were veggies in raised beds that were covered with tulle fabric.

    Nice garden, nice work. I do containers too, have about 80 right now. For your small row of rectangle pots make a small platform, maybe using 2 x 4s. Put four wheels on it. Now you can move it around , out of your way. Have a good harvest!

    Be sure to plant some red, purple (blue), & yellow flowers that are perennial. In NC mine bloom mid-June. This attracts honey bees, butterflies, and bumble bees. They need a little shallow cup of water. This gets your peas, beans, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers pollinated. That means more beans and most vegetables. Bees have gotten thin here because more highways have killed all the plants once there. Your garden is so beautiful and neat.

    In The Carolinas they use red and green or white cabbage, Cauliflower around the edges of their sidewalks like flower bed. Trust me it’s beautiful. They also make wreaths to put on their doors and they’re made of nothing but fruit fresh fruit nothing plastic.
    Growing up so broke in Michigan we had to walk around and find food when we saw this in the Carolinas we were tearing those peoples doors up trust me we had every fruit that day lol

    I gardened in big plastic pots, Earthboxes and other containers last season. I just got 2 small raised beds which will also be used this season. I garden in Zone 8B in the Mohave Desert in NW Arizona at 3,000' elevation. Kale does pretty well in many different climates. My Kale lived when the other things withered in 90+ degree heat and the Kale was fine in the cold chilly Fall. Cabbage Moths here too. Ugh!

      Hi Linda! I love hearing from folks who garden in different areas. Kale is definitely a work horse in the garden! I’m hoping to try a of couple new varieties this season. ~Batavia

    Great job on the container garden! Now I know how to protect my kale, those little pests come every year! You have a beautiful smile and every time you say "okeydoke" it makes me giggle, maybe because I'm in northern Canada and never heard that expression before. Anyways cheers and blissings from the great white north! I'm subscribed now.

    Hi, you have a wonderful garden. I just wanted to let you know that not all plastic containers are safe for food. The #5 on the bottom is safest, and there are a few other numbers, please check on line the chemicals that can leach into your food, not good!! I used large 92 litre plastic storage totes which is a 5 and I have build wood around a group of 8, to help slow down the breakdown of the plastic from the sun, as all plastic will break down in the sun over the years. It is great as I put a lip on the sides so I can sit and weed comfortably . Good luck with your garden this year.

      Hi! Thanks for the tips! For the buckets, it’s easier where I get them from because they are food grade/from bakeries and things. Your tips are super helpful for the other container types. Hoping others see your comment too! Happy gardening! 💚
