I love Natalie! Short gardeners unite lol. I'm also 5'2" and I have grow bags. I have grown all kinds of things in them. I will say I made the mistake of getting 20 gallon and they are too big and heavy to move most of the time. I like the 10 gallon ones better. 15 gallon should be the max size if you plan on moving the bags frequently. One of my questions is how does she cheaply fill the bags? Garden dirt can get pretty expensive and filling all those containers can get pretty expensive.

Bernie Cat, 36 years ago, I started with a very small area, maybe 4' x 6', maybe a tad bit larger. I placed containers around the outer part of that area. I had Gardenia and Rose bushes, and a few other things in the ground. I grew various tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, cucumber in the containers. It was sooo much fun! I was amazed by what I could grow. And I LOVED that little garden, my first. I only grow in containers. You, too, can do this. Start small with only 6 containers maximum. Have fun, and Enjoy the experience.

I love her garden! Inspired by Epic Gardening and Jacques I have added a few flowers to the garden this year and I was so busy I had no time to label my plants so thinking I was planting sunflowers (I learned which ones to use from Epic Gardening) here and there, I planted some funny kind of tomatoes instead. (Seeds were a gift from a friend). Interplanting by coincidence. Our neighbour now has problems with his beautiful tomato plants being slayed by mole crickets, and trying to google out a solution for him I learned that my somewhat chaotic gardening with flowers all over and different types of plants growing together creates an environment where mole crickets don't want to live.

I hope she has her homesteading dreams come true. I bet watering all those containers takes a long time and probably almost everyday. I like to direct sow lots of seed i.e. like 50 dill seeds in a 6inch circle and make use of the excess as microgreens as I thin them back, they don't have much of a problem growing that way early on making use of empty space, obviously they will get overcrowded and have circulation issues eventually if you don't remove all but one per area. My dill patches look like little 6 inch or so bushes, they kinda support each other from watering and wind damage at early stage and put roots in the ground avoiding bare soils asap.

Natalie's garden is such an inspiration and reminds me a lot of my own! I'm still living with my parents while in college so my garden is a bit limited and a lot in containers but one of the first things I added was backyard livestock: coturnix quail and rabbits. I think raising your own meat, if you can handle it, is such a good step towards self sufficiency and it feels great to have that kind of connection with where your food comes from. Rabbits (and also quail!) are such a great sustainable meat and fertilizer source if you can get over how cute they are. Loved the garden and interplanting tips, and seeing all the rabbit stew ingredients!

Natalie is like the protagonist from the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt! In the best way possible… except instead of heading east to NYC aprés her cult escape, she took a right turn from the PNW & landed in San Diego. The gopher thief who seeded the sunflower for her is pRoOf of this ;-)

    What a great garden!
Don’t forget rabbit manure is a great fertilizer, and unlike chicken manure you can use it right away.

What an encouragement! So many people think that container gardening is somehow less than any other type of gardening, that is absolutely false! You can do pretty much the same with container gardening as any other type as seen in this awesome video !

I LOVE it! Natalie is AWESOME! I just started gardening and am coming at it completely blind. No one to learn from and sandy soil with nothing in it. And I mean nothing. So I'm jumping straight into container gardening! So I can grow AND take the time to fix my soil.

This was such a great video. I really like Natalie’s garden. I too have lots of containers in my garden. Love the idea of three plants in each container. I usually just do basil in my tomato containers, but I think I will add a small pollinator now.

I had to remove an established Loquat from my back yard several years ago because it was too close to the back door and the dang Starlings loved it! I miss it, but I don't miss the mess.
I like Natalie's reuse of containers. I have about 15 mixed paper recycling bins (HDPE) that have become planters or support for my grow bags.
