CORRECTION: In my example of booking the $243 American Airlines flight through British Airways for 18,000 points + $5.60, there is actually a better deal. Recently Bilt added Alaska Airlines as a transfer partner (only major points currency to do this) and now they have an even better deal for booking that flight in this example for 12,500 points + $19. This would be around a 1.79 CPP value (although you'd have to transfer 13,000 points because transfers must be made in 1,000 point increments). Shoutout to @ancientscallion1963 for the comment to point this out!
Awesome video Dan! One thing that I would like to point out with your example on the CPP for EWR to Paris, the cash price would be slightly more than then 459. Air France's base far does not include a checked bag, but booking with points does include a checked bag. Therefore if a person would want a bag, it would be beneficial to book with points as the cpp would be much higher. since a one way bag fee/bag ticket is around +$100.
Great video! I just started over on my credit card journey and Bilt was my first card after getting my credit back. There's a lot to the miles and transferring game, so I appreciate the clarity you use to explain it all! Chase is the next card I'm going for, hoping to build some points up before a potential trip to Rome next Summer.
Nice video Daniel. I would also check out Alaska for your Domestic/Caribbean flights since now Alaska is a Transfer partner of BILT, Alaska has one of the best award charts for AA domestic flights. Using the same sample flight one way for Sep 20th, with Alaska miles is only 12k miles + $19 fee Nonstop. With a connecting flight is 7.5k miles +19.
You are absolutely right! I completely forgot about Alaska because I'm so used to every points currency transferring to British Airways and none transferring to Alaska. But now with the recent addition of Alaska as a transfer partner to Bilt, this is the better option here! Thanks for the great comment 👍
Amazing videos as always Daniel. Thanks for making such videos which help everyone maximize their savings. I can just send your videos to folks who don't know how to use rewards and makes it so easy for them. Always excited and eagerly waiting for your videos. Kudos and keep up the great work Daniel.
Always appreciate your videos and the informative stuff you talk about. Just a question, can we use the Bilt card on our HOA fees or even property tax?
It's amazing how much value Hyatt transfers can bring, especially since those hotels require the fewest points to book. I'm also curious if Bilt will move into allowing owners to book mortgage payments. Rumor has it may be in the works. Thanks for sharing your knowledge as usual Sir.
Let's go down to earth with the practicle example. My rent is 2110 per month, the good cpp target is 2.5 cpp, most probably a Hyatt. in this scenario, over the year, i expect to redeem over Hyaat stay something like: 12*2110*2.5/100 = $633. Thank you.
So I want to maximize my Marriott Bonvoy points for a vacation. I know I can transfer Amex points directly to Marriott, but I also have many Capital One / Bilt Points. Can I transfer my Capital one/ Bilt points to a transfer parter (ie Air Canada), and then re- transfer miles from Air Canada to Marriott Points?
awesome info! I'm in process of getting a house next month so you gave me a great idea of using my points towards the down payment! do you think that with all of the news about wells fargo losing a ton of money on this card that they will eventually take it away or devaluate the points? I'm thinking to use it now before any negative changes happen with its points value system 🤔
So while BILT and Wells Fargo are in a relationship Wells Really doesn't have much say in how much the points are worth. The reason for this is because BILT has the same type of partnership with WF that American Airlines has with Citi. Citi can't dictate to AA how much their points are worth but they provide the financing and even pay AA a fee for every AA card that is opened in exchange Citi will get the majority of the interchange and annual fees on the AA Licensed Cards and Citi buys the AA points from AA at whatever the negotiated rate is in the contract that they have with AA when an AA cardholder wants to redeem their points. BILT is the same way, Wells Fargo pays them each time a new customer is brought into the WF eco system from the BILT card and they also get interchange fees. WF pays BILT whatever the negotiated rate is when someone wants to redeem their BILT points to BILT and BILT will then transfer a ratio of those funds to whatever you're purchasing with those points. BILT still has to keep WF happy though because when the contract comes up for renewal in 2029 if WF wants out they can get out and BILT has slowly been changing things to limit the amount of BILT points being distributed each month to try and and appeal to WF even though contractually they don't necessarily have to. You also have to understand that 70% of BILTs revenue isn't from the card but from their loyalty program within BILT properties where they are the ones that own the interchange fees for rent and thus are net neutral since they don't have to pay interchange fees to themselves.
Ok but how many years will Wells Fargo/ bilt let you keep accumulating points without using any if you’re saving them for a down payment on a house? Most other cards are like a year or 2 before they delete your points. If you’re currently renting I would assume it’s going to be longer than that to save for a home
As long as the program is alive and your card is active (which your card HAS to be active and make 4 other purchases along with paying rent each month to get those rent points) then the points will not expire because the account is open. That said I think what you're referring to is more of an Airline/Hotel Loyalty Program, it's common for Airlines/Hotels to delete your points if you haven't utilized the account in 2+ years in most cases. As long as you're transferring points from BILT to say Flying Blue and leaving them in Flying Blue for 2 years and not ever using or adding to that Flying Blue balance there isn't an expiration date. Essentially keep the points on your BILT card until you KNOW what you're going to use them for regarding travel then transfer. That way you'll never have the expiration problem. :)
I'm currently using the Capital One Venture X and BILT Mastercard as my main setup. I only use these two cards. I first got the BILT card, and I would use that card for all my purchases. I recently got the Venture X, and I used that card for all my purchases to meet the sign up bonus requirement. Now that I got the sign up bonus points... I'm using both at the same time. BILT for rent day and dining and the Venture X for all other purchases. Do you guys think I should only stick to one card to keep all my points on one card? Using both cards will evenly distribute my points between both cards. I'm not sure if it's best to just stick to one.
You need a card for groceries. I’d consider adding the capital one savor one to get a good multiplier for that if you want a lower fee option. If you don’t mind adding another fee card I’d say maybe the Amex gold, but savor one is a great option with good multipliers that fits into your existing setup at no added cost
@thedman05 I live abroad, so a grocery category will be hard to get. Amex gold grocery category only works in the US. I was thinking of getting the savor one like you said, but at that point, I would only use the BILT Mastercard for rent.
You 100% do get the 250 points when linking Bilt to Amazon (screenshot proof is in the video because I just did it when making this video). It's only 250 points so it's not much but I can confirm it works. You may be correct about linking airlines and hotels though because I haven't received any extra points for that

just transfer 8000 Bilt Points to Alaska and use 7500 to redeem a $580 economy Japan Airlines from Beijing to Tokyo Haneda which is equal to 7.8 cpp!
Excellent comparison and explanation of how to search for the best point redemption!
Definitely an "in the weeds" type of video but VERY informative if you're thinking about, or already have, a BILT card. Thanks for the info

You know whenever there's a video about BILT, I have to check it out and bless it😂
Good angle!
Nice Video Daniel 👍 , Ever Since I Started Watching Credit Card Videos, I have Learned a lot of stuff about credit cards, Thank you 💯
Loved the B roll from Lake Tahoe 🌊

Thanks for this Daniel!

Given that how rapidly bilt is changing their benefits, saving points for down payments is very risky

Can I pay my mortgage with this card ? 😅
I think Rocket Mortgage actually just released a card that lets you put cash back towards your mortgage, if you have a mortgage with them
You can try, the card has no annual fee
Do not get points for linking to Amazon account to BILT anymore! Same with linking Airlines and Hotels, No extra points anymore
You 100% do get the 250 points when linking Bilt to Amazon (screenshot proof is in the video because I just did it when making this video). It's only 250 points so it's not much but I can confirm it works.
You may be correct about linking airlines and hotels though because I haven't received any extra points for that
Qatar Avios instead of British for One World… transfer points once in British l
👍🏻
BILT Mastercard
Bilt cancelled its partnership with American whys no one talking about it
Because AA is a horrible and borderline unusable airline. They still have Alaska and United
