It is incredibly stupid that crossings don't activate just because a train has less than 32 axles, and railroads don't do anything except bully passenger railroads into using more of their equipment that could be used elsewhere, on that specific line.
Fortunately, Amtrak has received a grant to fix this issue and to install shunt enhancement devices on many of their locomotives and cab cars, and I strongly want VIA Rail to do the same with their Siemens trains, if not their other locomotives.
It's unfortunate that most VIA trains that could be doing 70 mph (trackspeed by Ingersoll) are now limited to 45 mph as part of the 103.1f restriction. I've never seen an issue myself either.
CN should never have enforced that rule in the first place. Safety sucks.
Same garbage that CN pulls on the ex IC main. Tying up a bunch of Superliners that never get used.
No other railroad has an issue with even 20 axle passenger trains….somehow
CN has similar issues with Amtrak's Illinois Service between Carbondale and Chicago.
Amtrak's solution was to increase the axel count and weight by running older bi-level cars with one or two empty sleepers.
It is actually a handsome consist, with the newish Amtrak Midwest Charger.
Carbondale's new multimodel station is nearing an opening, replacing the AmShack. Maybe worth looking into as a location.
VIA is going to court to challenge this speed restrictions
BNSF 603 has a nice sounding K3LA.
I don’t understand how in 2025 this is a problem. Can think of numerous corridors in the US that run with less cars that this is not an issue. It’s Canadian design flaws and their unwillingness to fix or address the issue
This limitation is strange and what I don't understand is why there is an issue with the Venture trainset that have a charger locomotive and 5 cars but the legacy trainset that has 1 locomotive (either a F40 ou P42) and often only 4 LRC or HEP2 doesn't have that issue ...
The fact that VIA choose to use semi permanent coupler on there Venture trainset make it difficult to add cars since conventional cars are not compatible unless they consider to remove two cars from some Venture trainset to assign it to another trainset so that it would meet the 32 axles requirement, that would means however that Via will have to remove those trainset with only three cars from service.
Also, the Venture are used on the line between Québec Montréal and Ottawa and between Ottawa and Toronto. Most Montréal Toronto still use legacy trainset (either LRC or HEP2).
The “axle-count” pushback is coming from CN and now it’s on both sides of the border. VIA never had this problem LRC, Renaissance, or older cars making up shorter trains. CN is looking for a handout of some sort but hopefully it comes back to bite them.
Via needs to run stuff right and let's go back to a earth that runs right
How about some footage of the CPKC Holiday TRain on KC tracks when it head for the Mexican border?
Won’t be going anywhere near the Mexican Border for fear of Vandalism. Have you seen what KCS had to do to the Windows on their Units traveling South ?
@@kens.3729 I looked at the CPKC Holiday Train website and they showed the route ending up in Texas around Corpus Christi.
How much of the track occupancy detector problem is due to a design issue? And did CN design/manufacture the system or is it an “off the shelf” item from a vendor?
Why not make the 2 axle wheel sets into 3 axle. Adding an additional 2 axles per car would resolve the problem i'd think.
This was some awesome footage of trains around the country
and like hearing the information about them thank you.🚂🚃🚃🇺🇲
