I never understand people complaining about you using your fingers. God gave them to us for a purpose, besides, you're the ones eating it! That cake looks so good! Personally I have never cared for how sweet canned apple pie filling is. But I would use the same recipe but use fresh apples cooked with my own spices. I bet a crumb topping would be as good as a glaze. Yummy.

When I was a kid in the 50’s , my mom made a lot of coffee cakes for breakfast. We all loved them, nothing unhealthy about them. When my daughter was going to school i kept up the tradition.

I would just gently swirl the apple mixture through the entire cake rather than fuss with two layers. I would make a streusel topping with nuts, sugar and softened, not melted butter. Then drizzle with glaze. This looks very good. Thanks for the recipe.

You performed an operation on the apple pie filling. Very creative. The whole thing looks delicious; I would dump a huge scoop of ice cream on my slice straight out of the oven (with the icing on it). Delicious either way.

Tom, I agree with you about the timing of the glaze. Although I was taught to always prepare two spoons or two spatulas etc. when setting mise en place, so as to keep my hands clean. 🥰

That was actually Tom‘s mother’s butter dish and we have inherited it and enjoy using it. Anytime we use something that belonged to her, it brings back precious memories.
This coffee cake looks delicious , and I agree I’d make twice as much glaze ! I always enjoy a heavy glaze on a coffee cake otherwise it seems like the top is moist and the bottom is dry , but that’s just me , but by the apple filling being in the middle and on the top sorta would give the bottom more moisture so that’s a great help also !! ❤️🙋🏻🙏🌈🌈
This is new to me. I used to make a basic coffee cake when I was a kid all the time, and I'd add a couple spoonfuls of brewed black coffee to the icing and cocao

Haven't made a decent crust in 40 years

Tom, I agree with you about the timing of the glaze. Although I was taught to always prepare two spoons or two spatulas etc. when setting mise en place, so as to keep my hands clean. 🥰

Will use 1 tsp vanilla & 1/2 of almond extract . I will use 4 or 5 apples too. By the time they're perled & cirrd I shoukd have enough. God Bless. ❤😂🎉

This coffee cake looks delicious , and I agree I’d make twice as much glaze ! I always enjoy a heavy glaze on a coffee cake otherwise it seems like the top is moist and the bottom is dry , but that’s just me , but by the apple filling being in the middle and on the top sorta would give the bottom more moisture so that’s a great help also !! ❤️🙋🏻🙏🌈🌈

This is new to me. I used to make a basic coffee cake when I was a kid all the time, and I'd add a couple spoonfuls of brewed black coffee to the icing and cocao
I am sure that there are lots of different and delicious recipes out there for a coffee cake. We thought this one from our subscriber was pretty fantastic too!

I haven't had one of those for a long time, but I like the recipes you guys show us all. Simple, quick, basic ingredients, and the things I typically have trouble with like pie crusts you guys explain it so well I might actually try making them again. Haven't made a decent crust in 40 years
