    I love that Jim's guitar is so high in the mix in this video. He really added something special to the band.

      too bad he was only there for a few albums. I think by Rather Ripped he was gone. With Jim, they had almost become like an elaborate post rock/progressive rock band. The erly 00s was like their Greatful Dead jam band period or something. It would've been interesting to see what he would've added to earlier darker albums like A Thousand Leaves. I think it would've been something akin to what he added to the couple tracks off Nyc G&F.

    this may be the most under rated drummer of all time, the way he builds texture, he's so goddamn good. Been in love with this band for twenty five years, and they keep getting better

      Steve is a beast, for sure. patient and precise, but with killer instincts. definitely one of my favorite all-time drummers, between SY and Thurston's solo stuff. And Rain on Tin might be my favorite SY jam.

      Very much so. This whole album had a big Marquee Moon influence, especially this

    • @XylenRoberts
      @XylenRoberts 3 года назад

      @@brianwilliams9462 not surprising since the late 70s early 80s were a big trend in the early to mid 00s. It would've been cool if Sonic Youth would've done a weird version of a dance punk song or something around that time.

    This is my favorite song from my favorite band, hard decision but I think its the right one. I listen to this song nearly every day. It's hypnotic, beautiful and life-affirming.
    They opened their set with this during the murray street tour and it was sublime.

  • @JohnMcKLV

    The riff that stats with the first tempo change is pure genius, beauty, and light.

    Murray Street is one of the best albums of Sonic Youth, particularly for me is "the best, "a disc of a sensitivity absurd and Rain on Tin is" the music "... great .. great sound.

    One of their most successful motoriky/jammy songs -- this also has a ton with the type of songs that Phish were writing at the time (which their fans also generally were bitter about -- although Phish were leaving behind a healthy dose of Zappa worship instead of Branca/no wave sytlings). Nice performance.

    i've always thought SY was unbelievably cool, but when they added jim, i fell in love with them. in my top 5 of all-time.

    I don't know if anyone agrees but I hear parts of The Doors, led zepplin, and Nirvana. That climax was awesome and the audience thought so too. I don't understand any dislikes. Love every second of this song. A little embarrassed that I only discovered SY a couple years ago but so glad I did.

    It's weird... they sound pretty good in live videos, but are somehow AMAZING when you're actually there. I'm a big fan too and was honestly surprised when I saw them live the first time, even though I had watched lots of footage of them performing.
