Even though his mother abandoned him, he always looked for her. She would continue to reject him and he would continue to look for her and always had love for her despite her abandonment and neglect. He even bought her a house, the exact house that she was a maid at for years. This gift was still not enough and yet he never stopped loving her and trying to provide for her once he found her soon after leaving foster care when he was old enough to do so. And to write this song for her and about her and how sad he is that's she has died and still hoping one day to be reunited with her and wishing he could've done more for her while she was alive. Man, that reality hits too hard to handle. The story of his life is beyond tragic...

@@martinalberto7657 esas son conjeturas que la misma gente saco por hablar de él. Él mismo confirmo en varias entrevistas que esa canción fue compuesta y dedicada a su madre la cual murio en 1974 cuando estaba de gira. Le dieron la noticia cuando pasaba por Acapulco lo cual es la razón por la que existe esa línea en la canción. Antes de agregar esa línea, la parte que dice: “Oscura soledad estoy viviendo, la misma soledad de tu sepulcro, mamá” ya estaba en la letra original. Así que desde un principio y con toda intención, Amor Eterno, fue la canción que él compuso estrictamente y directamente para su mamá.

Recently i lost my father because covid 19 , and i couldn't go back to berial him because of the restrictions and it was very hard for me , not to go . He was more like my best friend rather than my father 😢 hi made me ,the man that i am today . Every time I listen to this song i cry , i mist him so mu much . " i will eternally love you dad" .

Juan Gabriel is a great showman who really plays with the audience´s emotions. He´s a first class joker, often he sings about painful experience which is just plain irony, he seems to suffer but are actually having fun while doing it. But this, he says in the beginning, is more of a prayer than a song. A very subdued scenic performance, no irony at all, he´s ver honest in his expression, it´s a beutfiul song to his deceased mother.

Se observan, en primera instancia, cuatro serventesios (estrofas de cuatro versos de arte mayor con rima intercalada: ABAB) de endecasílabos heroicos perfectos (con acentos obligatorios en sexta y décima sílaba, según el modelo renacentista). Cada serventesio comparte, de igual modo, las mismas estructuras melódico-armónicas de sus pares (o sea que tienen la misma identidad como bloque de sentido: A, A’, A”, A”’). Los serventesios están divididos en dos ejes simétricos, donde se encabalgan a su vez dos versos de perfecta sintaxis que expresan con honestidad y prístina naturalidad, no exenta de tropos retóricos, el tópico del poema: el duelo.
La parte B, que funciona como coro, se estructura en dos partes de tres versos cada una (o sea, como tercetos encadenados, con rima ABC/DEC). Ambos tercetos expresan una estrategia conocida como correspondencia, donde la idea que se genera de inicio se desarrolla sintácticamente en el curso de los tres versos. No hay un sólo error de sintaxis. El tercero y el sexto verso de esta serie estrófica, cabe referir, son esdrújulos, y, en correspondencia con la tradición y técnica poéticas, tienen una sílaba de más para que el último acento se ubique en la cuarta posición, como es menester en todo verso o hemistiquio pentasílabo. Esto último denota, entre otras cosas, conocimiento de género. Los tercetos encadenados, por cierto, son comunes en la tradición cancioneril mexicana (otro rasgo más de identidad); lo no tan común es el uso de los decasílabos como versos compuestos (clara expresión de estilo y, más aún, de oficio).
Cabe referir, ya por último, el efecto del segundo verso de la última estrofa: uno piensa inicialmente que la canción reitera una vez más la temática del amor perdido, pero es en estos postreros versos donde nos enteramos del asunto y sabemos entonces que estamos ante una canción de carácter luctuoso. Desde la perspectiva aristotélica, esa preparada disposición de los significados parciales de la obra se conoce como ‘curva dramática’ y expresa, en justa proporción a la recepción de sus canciones, conocimiento de causa, colmillo.
