I’ve been going to a local casino a lot more often lately. I had a host come up to me and introduce himself. He offered me a free room instead of driving back home 2 hours away. I took him up on that offer. He gave me all his information so I can book a future trip with him. It was a nice surprise

Yes! I got a shout out!! That trick Dave mentioned from me has worked several times for friends. They don’t play enough yet to get the comps but they are building a relationship and every trip they check in with the host and find out how close they are and what they need to get better perks.
Also one huge perk is you get invited to invitational slot, blackjack, and poker tournaments. They usually are free and have real good prizes!

@@Gailesch that’s great! Those aren’t easy! Last month I did a winner take all for $50k and got second place. That got me $0. Womp Womp Womp.
I find the winners are determined in the last 30 seconds. Save your energy for when those symbols pop up on the screen. You can’t miss any AND you have to get lucky and pick the right ones! Good luck!!

i had a host contact me several years ago. it was kind of a wake-up call to tell me maybe i was gambling above my means. sure enough i realized my bank account, and credit cards were drained as well as my 401k. i realized i had a problem and quicky backed off util i don't go any more. i don't know how much worse things might have gotten if not for that host calling. just a different perspective but great info from you guys as always.

Great video. I have been contacted by hosts, casino marketing reps, etc. What my experience has been is that i can do the same thing online regarding booking things and have never been offered more "free play" which is my preferred benefit.
Honestly i would rather not have one because i feel people would feel obligated to spend more than they normally would to impress or satisfy a host.

  • @4jp
    @4jp 2 месяца назад +15

A better analogy for a casino host is a stripper or a fichera: they will be nice to you and offer you things as long as the money keeps flowing. Your "friendly" host will have no time for you if job loss, divorce, other life event, or just a decision to gamble less results in you spending less.
Never feel pressured to gamble more or at all. Do not feel guilty because your host is telling you that you are not playing enough for the level of "gifts" that you are receiving. The host is not your friend. The value of the stuff the casino "gives" you is nowhere near what you are losing.

    • @GambleSmart

Hi Dave 😎 my mom and I are not high rollers but we go about once a month to Delta Downs and 2 months ago right before a slot tournament my mom suddenly heard from a Host! We got to the casino and she found us, introduced herself, invited us to an area where she had cupcakes and cookies for her “people” and that was that. Well….a few weeks later it was Saturday morning and my mom and I impulsively decided to go to Delta but alas it was too late to get a comped room. We emailed her host and boom! Not even 30 minutes later she replied with a room reservation for a comped night!! And my host, he always finds me and wishes me luck, and he says if there’s anything I can do for you let me know. Well i finally did ask for $20 food comps and I felt a bit guilty for asking, but he said sure, and my mom and I ate for free with my host and stayed for free with her host! Yay Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana!! 🎉🎉🎉 (now let’s work on a smoke free area please 😉)

Unless you are a big player my experience is that for the general player a host can and will do mouthing extra for you. They look at your amount of play and give you what you get, nothing extra. No more or less than any other employee in charge of reservations. Back in the good ole days of Vegas 1970- 1985+- the host at check out would assist in comping food, beverages and some other items based on play no problem. Today you’re lucky if anything is comped, as a customer we are treated more as a bother than a paying customer. And this is just one reason I don’t go anymore.

One time she even hung up on me and when I texted her back and told her how rude she was. Her response was, she got a call. Now this is with Caesar entertainment. How do I ask and request to change my host? I spoke with other host and seems like other hosts didn’t want to step her toes and nor didn’t want to give me guidance. I feel like it shouldn’t be this way, I spent $$ and my wife/I loss money every trip which ever Caesar properties we stayed although I played old slot. I used to play enough to get a host. The problem is life changes ended up changing that lol.
1 other tip I can bring up. There are some things that you absolutely don’t need a host for. Let’s say you play outside of Vegas, but you want to stay at a hotel during a Vegas trip. Cesar’s is a good example. You can actually go online and see deals on where you want to stay. I did that and got a full week of stay for only resort fee. (I didn’t have status to qualify for free yet.)
Also, slots look at coin in, and coin out, plus hand pays. You could “cheat” with slot play, while tables need to be hot and heavy. Sometimes a pit boss could rate you higher than you actually play if you’re on a slow table or tip the dealers well.

I have a question that’s off topic. Free play is what I most want and then free food and possibly a free room. I saw anther channel talking about how to earn points/free play. That channel explained it like if you $500 bank roll and you do $20 spins and lose it all and then compared if you have a $500 bank roll and did say $5 spins and still lost your $500 what matters is how long you played!! Yet you lost your bankroll in both scenarios. So it seems that low rolling and making staying longer is what matters. So doesn’t this discourage higher betting? If so, they want you there longer and not give you a chance for a big win and lose than to bet bigger and give you a better chance at winning something big! That seems a little sneaky to me. lol I wish it were based on your bankroll period. Also, I have a team not a host. I was told because I bet bigger. lol but in the end I’m not staying that long. It’s confusing.

I used his video on comp grinding. Used the ballys machine plus two days of no. Stop play. Granted I did well so had some luck but bankroll of 2600 for two days and coined in 18819. Two weeks later I got an email from a junior host asking me to contact them when I come back.

I can say that a significant slot win doesn’t get you a host. I stopped in an Oklahoma casino two years ago and won a $100,000+ Super Grand Progressive. Unlike the “buddies in Vegas win big” Hollywood movies, three months after the Oklahoma win I received a card with an offer of 5$ in free play.
I also discovered at Tax Time Oklahoma taxes include your federally adjusted gross income plus the big win for tax purposes. I live in Ohio. Ouch. Ask your favorite accountant on the effect at tax time.

it’s not about whether you or lose or how much. they want TIME. even you play $1000/hand bj for one hour a day is not as valuable to them as someone who plays $50/hand but goes for 5-6 hours a day and plays multiple days/yr.

So what if myself or my adult children are gambling at an off-strip casino (i.e., Durango, Red Rock, Rio, etc.) and we do manage to meet their minimum host requirements with either our winnings or overall play amounts, would they be able to get us rooms or freebies at either the MGM or the Caesar's properties, or only within their hotel chain?

    • @GambleSmart

it would only be within the brand they host. So in durango example it would be the station casinos. Hosts are almost always brand specific.

One question that isn't exactly clear. Let's pretend you were going to gamble $10,000 in a day. Does it makes more sense to gamble at one MGM property versus, say, gambling $2000 at five different MGM properties (Luxor, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Park MGM, etc)? I assumed MGM wouldn't care as long as you're at their properties, but it sounds like you might get more attention if you were at a single property?

If you did all at one property like ParkMGM or Excalibur over MGMgrand or Aria, the 10K is looked at as higher. MGMgrand, Aria, Bellagio are the higher tier properties, However, keeping it within the same umbrella MGM is much better than playing at an MGM then caesars then venitian then wynn. As all the money is in the same company. Personally this is how i play, i am not casino loyal, but i do like to stay within the brand.

We have an amazing host at the resort we go to! OMGOSH... she's absolutely the BEST! We get (currently) $700. In slot play, each trip that renewes every two weeks. A VIP Suite (apartment) and extra rooms for our guests we sometimes bring. We get $150. retail credits each, plus $450. extra each. We get amazing services. We eat as much as we want anytime and anywhere we want and includes our guests! All comped! We do spend roughly $5k-$6k every time we go. We do reward our host. Usually $200. per trip. Not because we have to but because we want to. She's a sweetheart and a friend! It's what keeps us going back every month or two. And, we get 2 concert tickets each for big-name entertainment! (We don't always accept them, but can if we want.) Its clean, sanitized, not smokey and is two casinos connected! Its tribal with class 3 machines too! We are happy and smart gamblers who understand the system and treat our host as family.
