One thing I would suggest if someone has no self-control: leave your credit/debit cards at home. It’s so easy to run to the ATM.

@@herbertdaugherty636 you are just not dedicated enough to be a real gambler.
Finally someone says this instead of "It's just a random number generator" THANK YOU
Excellent advice! I found that you must never lose sight of what the casino environment is designed. They want you to play in a way completely opposite of your tips. So, take small wins and losses. When you are lucky understand you were lucky. You are now not necessarily a better gambler all of a sudden. Book your wins and cut losses!
Well said!

i dont get it . who can afford to lose anything? how does that make sense? we all work hard for our money. or maybe you earn yours easy. is that it?
@DrSchor I look at it as an entertainment. I work hard to earn my money but can afford to buy this type of entertainment every now and then 😂
Ive always loved the idea of gambling and am finally going to my local casino this weekend for my bday! The self-allowance tip was a reminder I needed and greatly appreciate. 🎉
I didn’t think id be interested in slots but thanks to this channel I better understand the appeal. I will def be giving them a go.
Excellent video! This in combination with the recent "experiment" you did with your four home slots and their short term performance has made it possible for blonds like me to understand. As always, thank you Gamble Smart.

Great advice in this video! I just love talking slot machine math, you are spot on with everything. Also great to see the tech admin screen for Huff N Puff. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are so right about managing the highs and lows. I try to leave my local casino when I am up, no matter the amount and try not to have any expectations but rather have fun. If you're not having fun, its time to leave.
Great video as always, new sub and newish gambler here and this channel is a priceless find. The huff n puff info screen was interesting, I was under the impression that a machine would stick to a take-then-pay throughout and never really go above 100%, certainly not ~20% over.
Glad you found us. More to come on this topic so stay tuned!
Thanks Marc! Love you all! ❤
Very good and practical advice as usual. When I go to the casino, which is not as often as I would like, I am able to find machines where I can play fir as little as $0.17 a spin and be on that thing for a long long time...LOL. Don't win much but the hype is still there. I can switch up the bet and have gotten lucky many times. I view going to the casino as visiting my favorite sporting event and love going each time. Usually spend 4-5 hours there and then I'm ready to go home. I read mostly all the hints that others give and use what I can and trash what I cannot. Continued success to you and your channel.
you are a rare breed ,i wouldn't even go to the casnino if i only bet 17 cents or even less than 2 dollars ,i dont go for entertainment in fact i hate most games ,winning is the only thing .i would prefer not to have long bonus's ,just go to the result .a black screen with credit ,win and bet would be preferable to me . all spins are programed after random number is selected anyway
Marc, great tips. Enjoyed the mathematical part.

Great info!!! Very informative
That was a great video!
Awesome analysis mate,
I've often wondered why people who talk about gambling, slot machines specifically, do not describe them the way they describe roulette.
Roulette wheels do not get hot or cold, neither do slot machines. Every spin is completely independent of what happened in the past.
TY
Randy K
😎
hot and cold periods exist even with independent spins. learn about probability variance. happens in both slots and roulette
In probability theory and statistics, variance is the expected value of the squared deviation from the mean of a random variable. The standard deviation (SD) is obtained as the square root of the variance. Variance is a measure of dispersion, meaning it is a measure of how far a set of numbers is spread out from their average value.
Very sage advice 👏🏻
Well said Marc. Great advice!

Good advice. The key is having fun. And NO expectations of hitting big money. If I leave a casino with the same money , its a good day for me. A few hours of entertainment, socializing , free drinks and even a meal that cost me close to nothing

Great info. Taking small breaks can be very helpful. I usually just walk around the casino for a while, looking at machines to decide what I want to play when I'm ready to start up again. I go for 4 hours at the most, maybe twice a year.
Hey, guys! Love the channel! I have a question: sometimes I notice that a particular machine will have a pattern of certain (higher) symbols appearing less often on certain reels. I'm thinking specifically of anyways pays machines (like buffalo) and specifically of the third reel in a set of five reels. So two questions:
1) Is that center reel sort of the engine that drives their math model/probabilities? Like reels one and five most likely to show buffalo, reels 2 and 4 less likely, reel 3 least likely?
2) On some machines, it almost seems like whatever falls on the first reel has an effect on what appears on the subsequent reels. I'm thinking of games (specifically the buffalo chief) where the first reel will often show a buffalo, but when it doesn't land a buffalo, the subsequent reels will show large stacks of buffalo. It's reeeeeeally obvious on that game, but I feel like other games do this.
3) I lied. I have three. Third is: there seems to be a certain type of game where the free games symbols only go by during certain spins, but not most of the time. And that's "go by", not necessarily land (thinking of Sky Rider). It seems like a waste of time to play those ones because it feels like there's less of a chance of landing the bonus on those but....is it actually a more upfront and honest game in that way?
Looooooove the show!
Great work.
I always have a great plan before i go then it all goes outthe window once im through the door
Happens to most of us - Just gotta put some measures in place to allow you to resist the temptation.

TRUTH
Thanks Marc.
can you please have a look at the statistics i put up under your answer and tell me if those are anywhere near normal? and what i can possibly do to better them?
Thank you ❤
Very informative as always!!
@GambleSmart Are we better off making the same bet amount at higher denomination?
In general and in the long run, yes. Just make sure that your bet is covering all available features of the game.
Reminds me of my truck MPG. I reset it today and it'll read 22 or so. May jump up to 25 but quickly return to 20-22 and soon to 18. After a few thousand miles, it always stays around 17.8 or so
that is a good analogy
For some games like blackjack, roulette, it doesn't make a difference whether you are betting big or small. For craps, it doesn't make a difference for most bets, but for instance, taking (free) odds after a point, you have to bet so that you get the correct payout. E.g. taking odds on 6 as the point. Betting $5 gets $6 if you win. Betting say $4 will only get $4 in return as the table doesn't make change.
For slots, lower price slots have worse odds per $1 bet (why? Casinos need to make a certain amount of money per square foot of casino space so need to make a higher return on cheap slots), but you are betting smaller amounts so losing less money per spin compared to higher price slots. If a slot machine has a bonus payment if you bet multiple coins, your best odds are to bet the multiple coins per spin. Per dollar bet, you are getting the best return on your money, but because you are betting more, losing more per bet.
The better your average return per play, the better the chance of coming out ahead in a session.
You're always on the 'ball' with your advice Marc. Thank you😘🍀🍀🍀🌹
Absolutely true ...
Great video, Great info!
I think maybe one of the reasons people play higher denomination or higher bet is because when they do hit a line hit or a bonus, the payback is going to be greater than if you were playing a lower denomination or lower bet. Your thoughts?
Thanks for taking the time to educate😊
Yes, but that is simply because you are wagering more. :)
Based on the fact that higher price slots have better percentage payouts than low priced slots, you have a better chance of winning in the short run. That's just plain statistics. And you will lose fewer bets in the long run. But, because you are playing for higher stakes, your winnings and losers will probably be greater. Instead of looking at things in terms of dollars, look at it in terms of numbers of bets per hundred bets, or maybe per hour.
Bet size is all relative to results . Higher risk, bigger payback but also bigger loss.
Absolutely. Well said.
The question I still have is if you up the denomination but play the same bet amount, does the higher denomination have a larger payout percentage?
For instance, $1.00 spins on 1 cent vs $1.00 spins on 2 cents. Or is it just the higher the bet amount, the higher the payout percentage?
Hi. Did you buy that timed lock box online? Love your channel, thank you 😊

Question: as APs are growing daily by large numbers, are slot manufacturers changing how the games are designed to combat or enhance the movement?
So assuming no changes in rules for max lines/higher denom, in general would it be better to bet one unit at 10 cents verse 5 units at 2 cents or 10 units at 1 cent? Same total bet, but different line multipliers. I had assumed that the higher denom would have a slight edge.
Yes, just set proper expectations that in the short term, it’s not guaranteed to be better or noticeable.
Just discovered your channel and love all your great information. Question: Why does it seem that new slot games pay easier when they are new and tighten up over time?
It’s just coincidence. Nothing changes with the machine over time. :)
obviously, to get you hooked on playing them. beat the system by only playing on new machines. that is what all the people around you winning know.
Good stuff. Bottom line only gamble what you are comfortable losing. Curious what you think of advantage gaming. Not really talking about stalking machines for must hit by and machines left half way through a cycle like Scarab. Because everything else being equal you are almost always going to lose if you play long enough since the house has a relatively large advantage at slots. Do you have any advice on how to cut into that edge?
Besides what you mentioned (must hit by and state saving games), I don't deal with AP on slots. Maybe sometime in the future, but we're trying to stay focused on the basics at this time. :)
advantage gaming is not for slots. learn baccarat.
I’m curious about 1 cent, 5 cent and 25 cent machines. I notice on the ones with progressives you can bet $5 and on the 1 cent machine get 5 jacks with the “box” around the fifth Jack and win $20. On a 5 cent machine that same hit would be $50 and on a 25 cent machine, it would be worth $250 so doesn’t it make the most sense to play higher denomination games? But still at the same amount of money per spin, ie $5?
Thanks for the info. I thought you would have elaborated more on the percent payback differences between 1 cent, 5, 10, 25, 50 and then higher denoms of $1, $5, $10 / spin.
What kind of questions do you have? Happy to help
it is simple. the more you risk, the more you can win.
the machine is set up to encourage you to risk as much as possible.
@@GambleSmart I was referring to the higher the denomination, the higher the payback percentage. So people who play $5 a spin on a penny machine would get a better payback if they played $5 a spin on a $1 machine. The difference being 1 cent denom pays about 88% and $1 denom pays over 92%.
I wish I could take your advice on the denomination and bet amount I always up my bet when I’m winning and can’t leave without being satisfied till I lose it all
dont feel bad, that was always the plan; the casinos have crawled into your ear and eaten your brain
My wife is a good budget, buddy! She will want to go eat, have drinks at the bar, walk around and people watch. It's breaks up the small gambling that we do so it won't get out of hand.
Love your channel content, your advice and experience. I do have a question that will help me decide on my strategy. I understand the budget, the slots volatility. How many total spins or dollars amount per machine play before you move to another. Currently, I have a 300.00 budget. I break into 20.00 bills. I play the machine on twenty dollars one dollar bets, if I double the amount I cash out pocket the receipt, move to another low volatility. If I triple my 20.00 I bet higher detonation and play down to my original 20.00 bet. I do this till I go thru my 300.00. Total my receipts and if I have doubled my 300. I take 200.00 and find a Top Dollar and bet the 6.00 max bet. So far I have never hit a Top Dollar bonus. I think I am following Your and Cowboys advise. Thanks for the help.
You are doing really well and better than most gamblers out there. Even though you may not always have success, sticking to the plan is key to pocketing winnings when they do eventually come. Well done - keep with your plan, it’s spot on.

Always breakup money in sessions cash envelopes. Try to cash out after win if I'm up by 1/2 or more. Then put in $20 if game is still being nice. Thanks for info
Great strategy of the WON and RUN method
Thx. Great info. Is that 10,000,000 spins an actual figure? Are games programmed for that #? 😊
When a wide area progressive hits, does it change the game yield % on only the game that paid it out or does it factor in to all the games that had contributed to the WAP?
It gives both figures in the accounting section. With and without.
How do we gain access to the theoretical pay out numbers?
Just curious, would the same logic apply to keno machine denominations.
Depends on the specific logic you're referring to. Yes, the RTP is a long term outcome and there will be variances in the short term, just like slots. All casino games pretty much operate on this logic. But how the RTP is determined in keno is different then slots. It's more like video poker in that a deck of cards or the number of balls that can be drawn is a known static factor across all of the games, denoms etc. RTP is determined by what a win pays when you hit x amount of picks or in the case of VP, when you get dealt one of the winning hands. Keno is even a little more complicated in that the RTP is different depending on the number of spots you pick. I wouldn't suggest applying most of this logic to keno. There is better specific keno logic out there. Essentially though, you should really only be playing keno because you enjoy it and because of the potential to win big on relatively very low bet. But as far as RTP goes, it's going to be among the worst in the casino, especially when you're picking 10 numbers. It's not a game I would suggest sinking a whole lot of your budget into unless you have a very low budget.
You may have already addressed this, but I do notice that in some machines that have jackpot amounts, often as "mini", "minor", "grand" etc., some of those jackpot amounts do not increase with bet size. What is the logic/math behind this? For instance, a "minor" amount is $500 at a .25 denomination. Bump it up to a dollar, it remains $500.
the logic and math is to ensure you win a little as possible, what were you thinking?
Can you comment on Capital Gains. On the vault bonus could both me Money Charge or both be Vault bonus. Are the games predetermined at the start of the game?
Another question would be if the online casino odds are the same as the casino in person.
An important takeaway from this video is that if you are betting a certain amount of money on the penny denomination on a multi-denomination machine, say $5, but you can bet that same exact amount at a higher denomination (e.g. that same $5 bet, but choosing the dollar denomination), you're likely better off in the long run with the higher denomination. Even if there are more paylines when playing the penny denomination vs. the dollar denomination, the higher payback rate on the dollar denomination is the most important factor. Am I correct?
Please know your words are a holy grail. To my husband and I !
Thank you so much - hope it helps
Is there a standard minimum payback percentage that casino have to go by? In other words, can they drop it to under the 85% I live about an hour from a casino on a reservation, and they are not regulated (so I'm told) and they aren't required to say what their payback percentages are.
find out : how credible is the person who is informing you?
Indian reservation casinos are not regulated like non-reservation casinos. Reservations are considered as their own sovereign nation, and they can make their own rules. I believe they have a compact with the state gambling commission, but I don't think they are required to disclose the terms of their compact or payback percentages. Basically, 'for tribal eyes only.'
Can casinos set/change the expected payout percentage by denomination on the multi-denom machines? Once in a while, you will see charts released that show the actual prior month's payout percentage for Vegas by denomination. It typically shows that a $1 or $5 bet has a materially higher payout than $0.05 or even $0.25.
Think of multi denomination machines as separate machines. So yes, each denomination can have its own payback % setting.
@@GambleSmart Thanks for the info. These videos are always interesting.
I have a question, so lets say your playing a multi denom. machine. Like 1,5, 10 and 25. So your playing 1.00 and switch to 10.00. Does something trigger in that machine the change in value and is there a different RNG running for each of those values with different odds for those values? Hope that makes sense. Thanks
it is the same rng
@@DrSchor Thank You
I understand that the information you shared when you went into the machine setting is not available to the public but my question is can a tech at the casino go in and change it?
Not easily - there is a big process involved. We did a video on this awhile back that will help explain if you are interested: ruclips.net/video/F_LFcnYsikU/видео.html
Thanks I will check it out
If the information you want is not publicly available, you can submit a FOIA request to the casino's FOIA Office.
Good luck with that if it's a tribal casino!
They say that the slot machine has a random number generator that picks results once the button is pushed. If a machine is set to pay out 95% for example then is that built into the number generator after a certain number of spins?

Very good video..thanks...
Didn't answer this question: On a single line, 3 reel quarter machine - do the odds change when betting a single quarter vs max bet of 3 quarters? Are payout odds better on higher denomination machines in general? Example: quarter machine vs dollar machine vs 5 dollar machine, etc.
When betting less than max, the odds are the same in your scenario IF there is not a noticeable benefit to betting max, like the top line jackpot being much higher. Your second question I did answer in the video.
@@GambleSmart Where did you answer it? Simple yes or no will suffice.
@@bobg4657 yikes! you totally need to watch the video again, your question was the main topic.

Can be in your favor in the short term as well. You just have to know when to take your winnings and stop.
as you know, it is only for the short term. don't be a quitter because quitters never win. keep going, and you will win in the long term.
Is it true that with multi-demon machines the casinos use the same house edge for all demons? If so, is it based on the lowest or highest denom?
are we talking denominations or demons? because it is the devil on your shoulder that makes you go into casinos
I want to learn more about the tables and how slot machines use these tables to balance the hits. For example like in video poker. Specific hands must hit a specific percentage of the time. How does the machine use these to maintain the overall game payback rate?
For Video Poker, the way they control the payback % is purely based on what you get paid for certain hands, specifically the Full House. The game is not allowed to manipulate the shuffle and dealing of cards in any way.
@@GambleSmart hi. Can you also answer this? I heard that some video poker machines are dealt differently. Some select a total of 10 random cards in case you throw away all 5 cards, and are shown in the order of selection while others pick 5 cards and then 5 more that go on top of those original 5. So this means a different outcome based on what card you discard. Seems more difficult to win on those games. Is this true and if so, how can you tell which version you are playing? Thanks
No, that is not true. They are all continuous shuffles until you select the cards you want to drop and press the "DEAL" button. This might have been different back in the mid-late 90s, but that is how it is done now.
@@GambleSmart so after your original 5 cards are dealt, the outcome of the next cards dealt over your discarded ones are not known until you press deal the second time? So waiting a second later could give you a completely different outcome? I don’t like that at all. All 10 cards should already be known at the beginning of each hand. Wow. That’s like continuous shuffling for blackjack. That sucks.
Why would it be any different if it held before? :) You still don’t know what the cards are.
I figure ,
$200 steak dinner youll leave in the toilet a couple hrs later or $ 200 you could turn into a hand pay .

As I like to remind people....you're trying to bet the RTP by 100's of percent in the short term. So what makes you think a few percentage points of RTP is going to make the difference? It matters...but not the amount you want it to.
Big corporations build billion dollar casinos based on a few percentage points of RTP.
@@twostate7822 Oh for sure it matters to the casinos.
If the payout % on a machine is 85%, and you increase your bet on that same machine, will the payout % change based on your bet size? Or do you have to go to another machine at a higher denom to play at a higher %?
Increasing your bet at a given denom will not change the payback. Changing denoms will likely change the payback. But it's not suggested you play higher denoms for what is very likely a slight increase in payback. It's just not going to make that big of difference.to you as a player. Bet within budget.

Are these tips such as 85% money going in machine stays in that casino the same for Indian casinos( or Native American casino whichever one doesn't make me a racist is what I meant)
