I was really unsure about switching from Pioneer, but Laidback Luke's performances and now this walkthrough really make me consider. Most of what I'd thought I'd miss really is there. Only dealbreaker for me is the inability of linking a external third synced deck to the Prime4. Maybe I'll simply hope for a Prime5. Awesome video, still!
Very cool video. You seem to be a very kind and competent guy! Good to see people covering the Prime 2, since it is a neat alternative for the more bulky Prime 4 while not getting much attention yet. Serato support will come hopefully. The missing phono/lines are not too bad, as we have that handy Aux-In at least.

Love this machine. I have cdjnxs2s also. But this is my go to for all mobile DJ stuff. I love it. Quick question if anyone reads this how come when I sync my tracks I have to always nudge the track a little bit. It never just immediately syncs perfectly. When I use my pioneers, it syncs it perfectly every time.
Great unit, which just lacks external inputs (but at least Aux has PFL-Cue) and Serato DJ Pro support (this really has to follow asap!). The small 7" screen is okay for smaller standalone sets, but for my wedding gigs I still need my 15" Macbook with Serato. Also it is always good to have more flexibility than the competition! *So please SDJ Pro support, Denon, like you did with the Prime 4!* Make mobile DJs happy and encourage Pioneer SR/SX/SZ owners to switch! 🙏

It's sad to read this, especially as it's a comment on a video that is a complete guide to the Prime 2, took Phil many hours to make and he released completely for free on RUclips. It's not the only one either, he's done the XZ (over two hours long) and the Prime 4 (nearly two hours long) in the last few months. Not to mention the two livestreams every single week bringing completely free training and answering everyone's questions, the free book, the free downloads - most of what we do here is free training. I don't think it's fair or accurate at all to say our main focus (at any point) is simply dollars and cents.

Talking of sound quality, is it ok to use this consolle with an old professional, big multi amplified passive outdoors PA system from the 90s? A system with processor + 4 ways crossover+4 amps etc? Not sure why but, if you load a track that you don't want synced and you have the sync button on, the track will still sync. Even if you turn it off. You have to be careful with that. I wish there was a way to revert the track to the original bpm.

Phil, I noticed that you refer to the Continue item from the pull down menu as a Continuous playback of the track, restarting it once played, it doesn’t do that. What it does is play the next track in the crate or playlist, once the current track is finished, so useful for a comfort break or unattended playback of tracks. They don’t mix, just end and start next track but useful all the same. Also in your wrap up, you refer to the device as a Prime 4, whereas it is of course the Prime 2. Great video though covering all the features 😊
I have not long had the p2 and I'm use to mixing with pioneer , I notice in the video you pushed both the headphone cue buttons amd they were both active at the same time , how do you do it , as this is how I'm use to mixing , on mine you cam only use one at a time , not both at the same time pleeeeeease help

When you recording on the prime 2 can you transfer the recording to an iPad Pro. Because I’m thinking of getting one of these. On a plus note I’m mixing with one hand.which is tricky. My knowledge of dance music and music in general is really good.
Hi. Fantastic overview. Would it be better plug my Evermix box into the rca outputs to record my mixes when streaming or would I be better to use the record function on the unit. The reason I ask is because I tend use the mic a lot when streaming and it always comes through on the stream so makes the recording sound awful

Why did the prime go get the sweep effects? Prime two nope for some reason. Also, denon really needs to allow this to work with stems. It can easily be done with the pad replacement feature.

The recording is not affected by the master volume. The only way you can make it louder is by turning up the gain controls. Alternatively, load it into something like Audacity (free) and "normalise" the recording via the Effects menu in Audacity, which will make it nice and loud.

I have question about hot cues. I was trying Prime 2 today and there was one thing I couldn't figure out. Whe I use my MC3000 together with Virtual DJ I use a lot of Hot Cues. The cool thing is that each time I use any of my Hot Cues and then press CUE button music stops at the last Hot Cue I used instead of going back to "main" cue point ( the one next to PLAY button ). It's so annoying that in Prime 2 each time I am testing my Hot Cues I have to find the way to go to the one I like. For example I want to jump to one of them and prepare loop... If I just pres hot cue button It starts playing and I cant set the loop. I hope you understand what I mean. Is this possible to make Prime going back to last Hot Cue I used? I was testing only with original OS without updating.

I updated to the new version 2.0 and the Prime 2 to 2.1.1 I export the playlist from rekordbox into the engine dj program but the beatgrids are always incorrect. I am only sad that I cannot use this software based equipment because of a lack of voice feedback on them and a lot of physical buttons migrating to the touch screen! I love denon and how they are putting pioneer DJ working now but for now I will stay with my old cdj 1000 and a vestax mixer
Got you, so you'd need a voice to speak out what control you're touching - I wonder if that could be a third party app or whether you'd need to have in baked into the software. Glad you're able to DJ with your trusty older gear!

Same for me - I am a DDJ-SX user, torn between the MCX8000, Prime 2 and 4. I would like to have an AiO device which works both standalone *and* with Serato. The Prime 2 would be ideal for me in terms of size, but no Serato support yet! I have already suggested in the Denon forum, to at least add Serato DJ *Lite* and allow users to upgrade if they want for $99. It would be a win-win for everyone. We shall see...
Is it possible to use the aux input as an input for samplers? Is it possible to do a video on that please? For me that’s the only deal breaker (not able to play samples).
You can add pretty much anything, even a Turntable with Line-Out. A sampler is no problem! And the AUX has a Cue-Button, which is rare but incredibly helpful, so you actually have a 2+1 device :)
Watched countless videos before purchasing a Prime 2, inc. this one, and not one single video review or walkthrough mentions the fact that the MIC inputs are not cueable/hearable in the headphones. This is a completely basic function that is vital to DJ's who stream or do live radio shows and need to hear what they are saying in the headphones Live, why on earth Denon haven't included such a basic feature, being a DJ driven company is ridiculoous. its been asked for numerous times on their website and forums by users over the last 2 years and nothing. I'm now left with a Prime 2 that isn't fit for use, as without the Mic functionality its impossible to do my Live radio show.
Sorry we didn't mention that, it's something I do not believe DJs ever use when spinning live which is the context we reviewed this in - I certainly have never done so.
What might work for you is (unfortunately) getting an extra bit of gear; a "small mixer" where you could use the mic inputs instead of the ones on prime 2 then rout the main out or what ever outputs of the mixer and into the prime 2 then you can use the headphone output of the small mixer as your cue and you can even turn the volumes down or prefade listen buttons or mute buttons on and off. I got a question for you which you probably won’t answer but why did Dylan get rid of like safe for instants your inside one of your crates and you want to remove a song out of the crate well they got rid of removed from crate so now the only options you have is remove the song from the hard drive which means you gotta re-download the song again

We haven't tested it with Virtual DJ so can't properly advise, but would definitely ask Denon/Virtual DJ support directly :)

Can't remember if it's a setting you can change, not got the unit in front of me right now. I'd check there first, in the settings menu.

Pretty sure that doesn't work, unfortunately. It certainly doesn't work on the Prime GO, which is the same tech.

It's going to be pretty subjective but yes it's not the biggest, setting it to the right height will deal with problem 2.

Your play/pause button isn't working? That sounds like a hardware issue that indicates a faulty unit, although I've never heard of that before.

You can set it so it goes to the hot cue and doesn't auto play (assuming you weren't playing when you pressed hotcue)

Yes you could plug a sample into the aux input that would be easy

Watched countless videos before purchasing a Prime 2, inc. this one, and not one single video review or walkthrough mentions the fact that the MIC inputs are not cueable/hearable in the headphones.
This is a completely basic function that is vital to DJ's who stream or do live radio shows and need to hear what they are saying in the headphones Live, why on earth Denon haven't included such a basic feature, being a DJ driven company is ridiculoous.
its been asked for numerous times on their website and forums by users over the last 2 years and nothing.
I'm now left with a Prime 2 that isn't fit for use, as without the Mic functionality its impossible to do my Live radio show.
Sorry we didn't mention that, it's something I do not believe DJs ever use when spinning live which is the context we reviewed this in - I certainly have never done so.
What might work for you is (unfortunately) getting an extra bit of gear; a "small mixer" where you could use the mic inputs instead of the ones on prime 2 then rout the main out or what ever outputs of the mixer and into the prime 2 then you can use the headphone output of the small mixer as your cue and you can even turn the volumes down or prefade listen buttons or mute buttons on and off. Denon Dj products are far better than overpriced Pioneer dj gear. in every aspect.
I own the Cdj Nexus2s and the Denon prime two. And honestly the Denon gives you so much flexibility. It’s insane.
I got a question for you which you probably won’t answer but why did Dylan get rid of like safe for instants your inside one of your crates and you want to remove a song out of the crate well they got rid of removed from crate so now the only options you have is remove the song from the hard drive which means you gotta re-download the song again
