    As a 58 year old freelancer from halfway across the world who's been reading and collecting DC for five decades -- great documentary. Personally, I loved the 60s and 70s art and could never really fathom or appreciate the new age changes or shifts from the original context of Superman - long hair, ponytail etc.

    • @IronTonyStark
      @IronTonyStark 4 года назад +9

      @@towermoss Comics can be topical and feature social issues. What you're confused about and what people mean at the core of the issue when bringing it up is that the writer's own personal views and beliefs shouldn't filter through into the actual stories.
      The art and subtlety of the creators of decades gone by that everyone celebrates for workijgbthese political issues of the day into the Superhero comics, is that they did so in a balanced way, touching on issues and allowing readers to make up their own minds. This also meant that they didn't alienate readers. The writers and artists of today are nowhere near as skillful or have just outright dropped all pretense and lost their minds (not all but many) because they leave absolutely no doubt as to where their own politics lean and spill their own feelings into the pages, which effect the stories themselves. That is the problem people have with it. There's a subtle and skillful way to do it, but many of these modern creators over the last half decade +/- have the subtly of a nitrate bomb.

      @@IronTonyStark When you say “the writer’s own personal views and beliefs shouldn’t filter through into the actual stories” you yourself are expressing a personal view without supporting it. Comics are art, and art has always been about personal views. It’s impossible for an author to create a work of fiction without it being informed by their personal perspective, even if the work does not advocate for the author’s personal beliefs. I love Superman dearly. Christopher Reeve 1978 Superman movie was the very first movie that I saw in a Philippine refugee camp. I was bewildered and just amazed as I was watching. I really believed in what he stood for and the morals he installed in many of us. It is hard to be pure and alway upholding a righteous morals, that is the very reason why I love this character. I just have one request to the writers, please STOP making him more powerful then the last writers. If you guys keep doing that, it makes it harder to write a Superman story!

    Man, 2006 was such a great year to be a Superman fan. While Superman Returns was ultimately a disappointment for me, I'll always cherish the time leading up to it and just the hype and anticipation I had. You had Bryan Singer's journals, the teaser, the trailers, this documentary all leading up to it. I took my entire family and girlfriend at the time to see the movie opening night as it was going to be my first time seeing Superman on the big screen and I wanted to experience that with everyone. Again, the movie wasn't what I hoped it would be, but still a great experience.
    Then later that year on November 28 not only did Superman Returns come out on dvd, but so did all the Reeve films in that awesome tin set with a bunch of extra features and The Richard Donner Cut of Superman II. Pretty sure Lois and Clark, The Adventures of Superman, and Superman the Animated Series all had dvd releases that year, too. Not to mention the Superman Returns video game. Sadly, another disappointment, but that's neither here nor there. The hype train really was running on all cylinders for Superman that year.

    A SUPER documentary worthy of the first and greatest superhero of them all!
    I remember this documentary back when it first came out in 2006. I was enthralled as a youngster to learn about Superman's origins in the real world for the first time through this, and it still gives that same thrill, more that 15 years later.
    In retrospect, the only thing about this documentary I would be critical of is how little coverage the Death and Return of Superman story arc and the DCAU are given. It's clear that Bryan Singer (who also made this doc, in addition to Superman Returns), cares more about the live action Superman material, and does not give much thought to the comics or animation (aside from the first appearance and the 40's cartoon). Granted, more in-depth docs about the Death and Return of Superman story arc and the DCAU exist both on this channel and their respective DVDs, but it would have been nice if some more attention were given to those significant milestones in this documentary itself.
    Like many of my fellow commenters, I too want to see an update of this documentary to include material like the other 7 seasons of Smallville, Man of Steel/DCEU, New 52, Rebirth, Jon Kent, etc. Plus, how Superman impacted the creation of all the other Superheroes that came after him.
    Thanks for uploading this Warner Bros. Entertainment. Keep Flying!

We just might not have the same ones we have today (but possibly could have some of them). It is fun to play the "what if" game sometimes.... if Superman never came out & Wonder Woman or Batman still did & became the inspiration for some of Spiderman's story would his costume have been black & gray & instead of being a small guy in a newspaper office would he have been a billionaire with a secret Spiders Den or maybe he came from a hidden island of godlike beings. No telling what would have changed but no doubt that we would have superheroes still. It's just part of human fantasy for over 3000 years already.

I was over the moon with those too and probably said to myself back then whose more perfect then these two? Then over a decade later Kevin Costner and Diane Lane casted.....Yessssss!!!! It was kind of cool to see Lex and Clark as friends in their youth. There's a part of me that would love the to see the to of them play the characters as adults after Luthor really become his arch enemy and the ultimate threat to mankind. Seeing Reeve on Smallville as an obvious nod to Stephen Hawking was just Incredible!

    In four decades of my life as a fan following Superman, it's my very first time to know the whole history of this comic character from the moment he was created in DC (Detective Comics, I didn't know the whole name as far as I am concerned but only now). I remembered in the late 70's to early 80's, I was introduced to Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Robin through the TV Cartoon series, Super Friends from our old CRT TV set with V antenna.
    I have this "Aha! Ok, I see" moment when I found out that there was a first Superman on TV during the 50's era by the name of George Reeves ✝️ (who are not related to Christopher Reeves) but who committed suicide (may his soul rest in peace) and watching those throwback black and white videos made me truly appreciate and understand how the character evolved from the comics to television. Even before, I can say depression is already a silent killer, even the first Superman actor wasn't spared.
    Christopher Reeves ✝️ was the perfect Superman ever who graced the big screen before the modern day superhero Henry Cavill came in for the new millennium. What a treasured moment seeing the wet underarms of Mr Reeves in his "S" costume during his first audition in London no less. This is a priceless documentary film among the fans seeing those never before seen videos of the said actor. I am such a fanatic along with Wonder Woman from Lynda Carter in the 80's to Gal Gadot. The perfect build, gorgeous face and the blue eyes of Christopher Reeves was truly captivating both on the big or small screen. You will feel truly mesmerized by his charm like your prince charming who rescue you in your dreams.
    Thank you Warner Bros. Entertainment for The Amazing Story of Superman documentary tribute to #Superman as we #StayHome #WithMe, Myself and I. 👏👏👏
