14-year-old Billy Batson (#AsherAngel) only has to shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam (#ZacharyLevi). Still a kid in a grown-up body, Shazam and his teenage friends have fun while testing out his new super-charged capabilities. But the evil Dr. #ThaddeusSivana (#MarkStrong) is after Billy's magical power, meaning the teen has no choice but to master his skills or lose them.

I wish they didnt change him to a selfish kid initially and just kept him pure hearted. Sure, maybe it wasn't realistic but, unlike Superman, Billy was human. He got the bad end of the stick, but despite that, he kept his sense of morals. It was inspirational. I enjoy the additional members of the shazam family but I think he could've been a beacon of hope while still having great stories about him in today's times.
When I watched the movie I just kept thinking how much Freddy was the one who should have been picked.
Captain Marvel and Dr Fate to me will always be the 2 most underrated superheroes in all of comics!
S - The wisdom of Solomon;
H - The strength of Hercules;
A - The stamina of Altas;
Z - The power of Zeus;
A - The courage of Achilles;
M - The speed of Mercury
The original Captain Marvel...SHAZAM!!!
My grandfather, who didn’t seem to care so much about comic books in general, surprised me one day by going into a passionate rant about why Captain Marvel and Billy Batson meant so much to him as a kid. Apparently we’re related by more than blood. Add to that ink and the four colors of those Golden Age days.
Surprised kingdom come didnt get mentioned at all. That fight with Superman is legendary.
Given how Kingdom Come Ends not surprising.
Kingdom Come or Flashpoint
Today I learned that Elvis Presly was a fan of Capt. Marvel, Junior. (Freddy Freeman)
Wonder what kind of collection Elvis might of had and what happened to it...
One of my favorite DC superheroes, for me he is always going to be Captain Marvel. I can't wait for Shazam: Fury Of The Gods in 2022!
I wish DC would make another animated Shazam movie
As far as I am concerned, he was, is and shall always be CAPTAIN MARVEL...the ORIGINAL Captain Marvel!!!!!
Agreed!! ❤️
True
This comment is just as original as marvel's Captain Marvel
Yes. He's the one and the *_only_* Captain Marvel. All others are mere pretenders.
Not only the original, the REAL one.
There is no other Captain marvel but the Original ...SHAZAM...
Jack, Zach and Asher where amazing! very proud of them ❤️
Sorry guys , I am 55 so he will always be Captain Marvel to me ...
Same here. I had Captain Marvel comics in the mid 1970s. In fact, they might still be in my dad's attic somewhere. Edit: I know I definitely had the issue No. 8 (December 1973?) shown at 31:09. I can't believe I recognised it immediately, even though I haven't seen the cover for around 45 years.
No worries!
Exactly right
There is only ONE Captain Marvel, and he has to yell: “SHAZAM”!
That's funny because people your age were the ones that first called him Shazam because of your 70'Tshow ... make up your mind
Loved Jack Grazer in this film!!! Everyone did a GREAT job but Jack .....Holy Moly!!!
"SHAZAM!" It's awesome to find out the history and fondness of our relatable and young hero who turns into one of our mightiest champions. And he definitely isn't cheesy!
"Heat seeking ballistic piece of evil"
Genius....
his name is Captain Marvel
I had no idea how influential the character was in the comic industry back then, makes me love and appreciate the character more
This is great seeing and hearing Writers and Artists whose work I've enjoyed over the years discussing this.
Hands, lighting with my hands, lighting with my hands, lighting with my hands.
Amazing Documentary!!
One of the most classic super heroes finally closes a cycle with his live action movie
I really wish DC would reprint the old CC Beck stuff in full.
That would be such a tribute to Mr. Beck and the whole faucet comic book division bring back Billy. Mary freddy bring them all back .
I'm going to be honest.
I like Shazam far more than Superman.
I absolutely loved the the movie, too! I want to see the sequel, and Black Adam's movie, as well!
Release the Captain Marvel cartoons from the early 1980's on Blu-Ray.
@Timothy Mckee Yeah but it's not available over here in Canada
If you get a VPN (which you can do for a few dollars a month, like Nord VPN) you can change it so whatever website you're going to thinks you're in a different country. So you can set it to appear as if you're in the U.S. And get whatever country specific content you want from any site. Just so you know
@@JahRandom Thanks
Beautiful Documentary :) I hope there are more documentaries like this 1 for the rest of DC chacrters :)
If I were to be trapped in a room I think the DC comic book vault would be the way to go.
I find it amazing that even in the 1930s a kid would follow a dark stranger into a subway tunnel LOL
This is why Shazam is my favorite super hero of all time 😀
Just say the magic word!
Shazam 💪
I got to watch the 74 series as a 6year old I ran around truthfully I still do and I'm 52 going through physical therapy and I dream that I am SHAZAM!!!
I can’t how Jack is amazing in this movie
But he is unbelievable in every movie❤️
What a great Documentary!
Loved Jack Dylan Grazer ❤❤
Awesome documentary! Great watch.👍🏻👍🏻⚡️
I love Captain Marvel/Shazam comic books. The character is awesome!
Shazam!⚡..... ohhh yeahhhh
Anyone else excited for Black Adam and Shazam 2?
M A Y I T O it got delayed because of corona😔✊
Mantha Boo don’t worry, it will still come out my friend
I'm excited for both loved the Shazam
I am. 😊
Haven't even seen the first one, and I'm excited! :)
THAT is Captain Marvel and I call him like that since ever. The other one is just CM for me.
I’m pretty savvy when it comes to nerd lore, but I learned some stuff. That bit at the end was perfect. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Love it!!! DC make more of these please. Specially Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Wonder Woman having a sequel in the horrizon. 👌👌👏👏
I agree, it would have been better if they had kept Billy's pure heart instead of making him selfish at first. He was already a relatable, human character with strong morals, which was inspiring. While I enjoy the Shazam family, I think Billy could have been a symbol of hope even in today's world, while still having great stories.
An amazing story of Shazam's 70 years, I love Shazam.
I'm here for Jack Dylan Grazer. He's amazing in this movie.
Saw it in his Instagram?
@@emiliobello2429 I did
I love Captain Marvel/Shazam. Great Documentary.
Cool
The Wonder that comes from the Shazam stories! I can't wait to see what's in store him and the Shazam Family!!⚡
*CAPTAIN MARVEL! The Happiest Hero.*
I loved how naive and upbeat he was in his (sadly one episode) appearance in Justice League Unlimited. I wish that show had given us more Captain Marvel, Booster Gold, Question, actually been able to give us (Kord) Blue Beetle, etc.
And it's funny how they were able to call him Captain Marvel in that cartoon.
Holy Moly , Great Video ⚡
PLEASE do more of these!
I've loved SHAZAM! from the first time it came out of Jim Nabors' mouth... ;-P
One of my fave superhero! The original Captain Marvel! ^^
Can't wait of SHAZAM 2!!!!
In 2014 DC published The Multiversity: Thunderworld #1, created by Grant Morrison & Cameron Stewart. It presented a more traditional version of Shazam and the Marvel family in which the character was called Captain Marvel and the story reflected the light touch of earlier incarnations of the character . In it Sivna & his children gained Shazam like powers and created an artificial day. Sadly, it was only a one off.
Captain Marvel is a classic example of "If ya can't beat 'em join 'em".
now if we could only get 1/5 the amount of statues/collectibles for him that superman gets...
The original collectors, or people that would collect them, are now well into their 70s. REAL collectables come from things that a person had when they were young(er) Oh, how I'd love to have the Tonka toys I had as a boy. I was with my brother at a flea market 25 years ago. We both saw it: the Tonka Jeep we had when we were kids. Guy started giving his spiel about it being in near mint condition, but shut up when we pointed out that it was missing the spare tire. THAT'S what a collectable is. Someone that buys something because they love the nostalgia that it evokes. When Fawcett dropped the Captain Marvel series, they killed the continuity that Captain Marvel had one time had.
Would love a copy of this on dvd or bluray. I'm sure others would as well .
But its on RUclips now. We can always come back to see it.
ShAZAM is true AGIC Fallout 77!
Jack grazer and Asher angel are the best
This is my new golden trio ❤️❤️❤️
Who?
Great Documentary!!!!!!!! I love Shazam and this was very delightful to watch. Seeing his history was fantastic as comic book reader!! Great work guys!!!!
Shazam is the magic man!
Hope they pay some kind of homage to Elvis to the second film
i missed it time to cry now
Now if only we could've had just one Jim Nabors/Gomer Pyle reference...!
It's a shame DC doesn't show Shazam more love.
39:06 Jeff Smith’s take on the monster society of evil was the only exception to this rule because he made Billy Batson and Captain Marvel into two separate beings joined together. Marvel was the alternate identity of the wizard Shazam and all he did was give marvel a new host. It was like a kid friendly version of the demon Etrigan and Jason Blood.
For any kids watching, the lesson that Shazam teaches us is that you should follow shadowy, sketchy people into the subway, because then you will get superpowers!!!
In Austraya 1970s the most comic books i got to read was the beagle boys @@ & donald duck comics
when i started tech school visited cousins i didnt know about they had boxes of comics what you missed back then make up for it when older Movies
Stopped this after 4 minutes listening to all these "experts" refer to him as Shazam in the Golden Age. That was not his name, nor will it ever be his name.
Sometimes I wish shazam powers exist then we'll all have his powers wich is cool as heck
Cooper Andrews narrates this?! He sounds a LOT like Kevin Smith!
I mean Shazam has all the powers of the Old gods.
Great character, great movie and cast. Sitting on a gold mine WB, lots of room to expand if it's done well.
Personally, I think it is ridiculous to call the character, "SHAZAM", because then you have what I call, 'the Freddie Freeman problem', where a character cannot say their own name without consequences. I think DC should either have a contest where the fans submit names for the character, or use one of the names it had before "The Champion (the wizard Shazam superhero identity)" or "Captain Thunder (Captain Marvel's parody name)". This was one of my favorite superheroes growing up for all the reasons you mentioned in the documentary.
Captain Thunder was actually a name Fawcett considered when creating the character.
Cool!!
DC should of renamed Billy Batson's alter-ego Captain Marvel's name to "Captain Marvelous" instead of "Shazam". Shazam is the name of the wizard who passed on his powers to Billy Batson.
Dustin Nunn yea but that's too similar to Captain marvel which is owned by marvel
@@Manthab I said "Captain Marvelous", not "Captain Marvel".
@@TheRealDustinNunn still too similar. "Captain Thunder" would be cool though.
@@MAYITO1107 There was already a character named "Captain Thunder".
Dustin Nunn I’ve seen ppl get sued on a difference more than 3 letters just cuz it’s different doesn’t mean it’s not similar enough to get sued I mean seriously dc sues Fawcett over Clark and Billy and he isn’t thattt similar to Clark... also captain thunder is just an alt earth shazam
I think DC should have gone with the Alternate version name Captain Thunder.
Jack?
Alden R. Davis deserves nothing less than to be the Real Uncle Jeffy, Auntie Annabell W. Smith JD. Bens , U read SHAZAM
42:01 No. His powers had changed due to the events of the mini series “52” as he kept stating, the rules of magic happen rewritten. Billy became the new wizard and could not leave the rock of eternity. Therefore he decided to choose Freddy as his successor, but could not give him the powers so he had to earn them from the deities reincarnated as humans on earth. And at the end of it he would be called Shazam. Alex Ross originally pitched this idea with Billy as the focus but Judd already had gotten there before him.
Enjoyed the video 😁👍
I have watched all of the series of the old TV shows and the black and white movies
Didn't realize Geoff John's new 52 inspired the whole modern day Shazam family. The actors really look like their comic counterparts for that one!
DC Comics will never give The Original Captain Marvel the respect the character deserves.
this documentary is the best of the captn marvel movies
Movie was fab!
So let me see if I've got this right,in the 1930s DC started publishing their own comic book hero superman and it was a huge success, eventually a company called fawcett comics decided to create a similar character called captain marvel who was roughly based on superman, this ended up being a massive success as well and captain marvel was slowly becoming more popular than superman, DC didn't like this and after a few years and a couple of legal issues managed to sue fawcett comics who had to pay a large amount of money and stop producing captain marvel comics, this meant the name captain marvel could now be used by anyone which is what marvel comics eventually did. In the 1970s DC comics decided to introduce captain marvel to their own universe but the name had already been taken so they went with Shazam
Shazam is the best superhero
Jack Dylan Grazzer is Awesome
Given that it's an official documentary on the WB channel, I guess one shouldn't he too surprised that it comes down on the side of DC's pirate tactics of suing Fawcett on jumped-up IP infringement charges and then pillaging the character.
One of a kind. Shazam! ⚡⚡⚡
I had no idea that Mary Marvel was based off Judy Garland I mean wow, I wonder if Judy ever learned of this she would've been so flatered that a comic character was based off her.
Inspiration for Marvelman/Miracleman too.
Kevin Smith is a better salesman than craftsman.
jack dylan grazer did so well and so did zach there were amazing
No Gomer Pyle reference? GOOOOOOLLY! AND NO MENTION of MAD magazine (then a comic) SuperDuperMan vs Captain Marbles?
This was great ❤️
I love Shazam
Please tell me I'm not the only person who think's that Captain Marvel serial from 1941 was a mini series and not a movie?
yes i very like it! ! !🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Personally, as a big fan of the "SHAZAM!" comic book and pop culture franchise, I wished that DC Comics should NOT have taken legal action against Fawcett Comics in the 1950's because of alleged copyright infringement involving "Superman" and I also wished that Marvel Comics should have NEVER taken that name of "Captain Marvel" for their own superhero when it only BELONGS to the "SHAZAM!" franchise in the first place! After all, those events should have been seriously considered to be MAJOR-LEAGUE MISTAKES that both DC and Marvel had made, and sadly, cannot be rectified in the end.
Just remember boys and girls, always update your copyrights.
i wish comics today cost the equivalent value of 10cent in 1940
Do you HOW many copies of a single comic book would be for such low, low prices today?
the best documentry
