This is the first hip hop album to ever hit 10 billion streams. X hit that milestone before even Drake. For an artist who debuted that recently that’s insane

SKINS is worth a try... it came out after he passed so not technically finished but out of all the albums that came out after he passed Skins felt a bit more cohesive....
This is his true final album. Amazing album. Wish I could see what his music would become after this. After he passed, his label decided to release snippets and unreleased songs that didn’t seem like x finished or wanted to come out. They tried to tarnish his legacy imo but I will always see this as his final album cuz this was when he was alive and one of his best works.
The saddest part is that his last released song said "before you lay me down to sleep i pray the lord my soul to keep" To this day except my family noone's death has shook me as hard as when he had died, i still remember exactly where i was and what i was doing LLJ
it was actually Hearteater a few days after. But my experience was very much the same, id slept in and woke up to Before I Close My Eyes on shuffle of all songs as I read the texts n tweets on my lock screen. Gave that song a whole different mood for me to this day
Exactly, people say they remember where they were when the towers fell. I remember where I was when X died. Had just gotten off of football practice, remember it like it was yesterday. Cried the whole rest of the day
"Look at Me" the compilation album is a project that contains old songs from X that he never dropped on Spotify but on Soundcloud and elsewhere, I think it's also worth checking out. there's also the other compilation "revenge" I really like, that I would also recommend.
@timmy5876 The compilations are available on spotify, too. What I meant is that the songs that are on the "Look at Me" compilation album are old songs that used to be not on spotify beforehand, but now are with the albums release.
One of my favorite artist. I remember flying to another state, listening to X. As soon as we land someone in the back says “Yo! X was shot, they say he’s dead!” And my heart instantly sank. The airport, workers, people passing by were blasting X. One of the saddest deaths in the music world for me. He would have been on top of the music world without a doubt. So sad, and such a stupid unnecessary murder.
rip X . I don’t listen 2 him nearly as much as I used 2 but he’s such a big inspiration 4 me, and coincidentally I was actually listening 2 him again today and then u upload this, crazy lol . I think 17 is his better album but ? is still impactful and it’s depressing hearing it knowing he was shot dead just months later . rest in peace 🖤
Its such a shame that we didn't get more intentional X albums. All the albums after are either repackaged early songs or thrown together snippets to exploit his popularity. His motivated and directed music was his best because of how he could convey emotion with just the delivery of his voice alone.
hey bob i don’t normally write comments but i just wanted to say I really appreciate you and really appreciate this video. when I was in middle school/early high school X’s music played a big part in my life and being the age I was it was one of the first times someone in my life had passed away like that and it was pretty difficult to process. i really appreciate the fact you kept an open mind (which you do for every album) and appreciated the diversity this album had to offer. i know to a lot of people it can come off jumbled and annoying but I’m glad you were able to see it for what it was. your message at the end really stuck with me on “if you are asking the question, then you are still fighting”. in my life right now that message was needed more then ever and i actually found myself crying for the first time in awhile listening to that last song with you. anyways sorry this is a lot but yeah thanks for everything you do Bob just know your perspective is very much appreciated. looking forward to watching more reactions of yours in the future :)
X often presented the idea “bad vibes forever” which in reality is made to deter people who are not willing to look into the explanation further. he didn’t want to engage with people who see the phrase as a bad thing to stay away from. i say this after hearing you talk at 39:36, i think X poured his emotions into his music to try to get them out. it can definitely seem like X would wallow in sadness and have an audience who does the same but that was not the case. it was always an effort to self improvement. after his death it’s hard to not look back at it as depressing, but if he lived longer to have a bigger discography i think we could’ve gotten so much more range of emotion and styles. his music was very much emotional but outside of that he spoke to his fans so much and encouraged people to be the best version of themselves
@ 53:00 really needed to hear that at this moment in my life. havent listened to x in a while and havent watched u in a while, crazy how timing works out sometimes. thanks for doing what u do bob keep it up
This album came out when I was in the 9th grade. X and Juice both were the soundtrack to so much of my high school years, which was a serious privilege (I'm 20 now). It's honestly difficult to go back and listen to most of it, and my taste has changed. The song "changes" I genuinely cannot listen to anymore. It brings me to tears every time and makes me sick to my stomach almost. Crazy the impact music can have on someone's life when it reflects the feelings of what a person was going through at a specific time.
I was in middle school when 17 came out, I’m 19, almost 20 now. I remember laying down in my bed at night, just staring at the ceiling, playing the album out loud from the intro to the end. It made me feel so human. I loved it. I remember the day he passed, my mom got home from work and said she heard on the radio as she was pulling up that X passed. She didn’t know about him, but knew I liked him, I still remember the chair I was sitting in outside when she told me. Hurts. He was on the right track of getting better, and at the height of his career, he could’ve gone on to do so much more amazing things.
as a 21 year old who went thru highschool bumping x and juice n allat, im so glad someone from an older generation sincerely appreciates x’s music. i always felt like the older generations always judged and looked down on nowadays music like my mom she will never understand this music but u rlly appreciate this music and it shows. it warms my heart seein the luv x still gets

Interesting you say that @ 21:40 , because this actually sort of correlates with the music video for that song! John & Robert really did their thing on this one. You bring so much respect and insight to art! Watched the whole thing as always, appreciate u and your words and stories dawg ❤

Bob I already really appreciated you checking out 17, but ? AS WELL??? X helped me a lot through my childhood and being 20 now, which was the same age he died, I can't put into words how much life and growth he had left to give out. Before i close my eyes stands out to me because of it being the last song on the album and being X's last album he full worked on when he was still alive. That type of thing just sticks with you. I'll never forget being young and finding out my favourite artist died, and he wasn't just any artist that dropped songs and raked money in. X truly cared about his fans and wanted a connection to them beyond an artist and fan relationship. He made mistakes, destroyed things but at the end of his life he was a healing spirit and I just hope his 2018 energy stays out there for the rest of time.
the most transparent- raw rapper of this generation- truly an artist. i would recommend you his earlier work for his very aggressive/heavy music. we’ll see if you like floor 555 which is the closest to his oldest work. i personally think youd love his soundcloud work with your metal background. vive le quebec
You said when X was young, this was when he was young. Started music so young so all this stuff is early X.
Floor 555 X is the X that most of us got introduced to. Like when bro first came out I knew something crazy was going on down in Florida 😂😂
your reaction to 17 was the most beautiful thing bro
edit this shit good too
Bob I already really appreciated you checking out 17, but ?
CHEERS BOB
