Don’t forget Ruhm. What I find funny is people with B who “upgrade” their parts with Ruhm aftermarket parts essentially making it a Ruhm with a brompton frame. It’s really a silly if you think about it. Ruhm is about 900usd. Cheapest B is about 1500usd. You can spend like 800usd to upgrade the wheelset derailleur and external gear. So it’s like spending 2300usd to get a 900 usd bike but it has the brompton branding and experience. I know that the B community is strong so it’s like an entry ticket to a club and events but you have to spend more. Also to add my friend bought an A line just so he can get the frame to fix his M6R which frame was rusting. His new A frame also start to rust less than a year and it’s not covered under Brompton 7 year warranty 😂 He refuses to buy a third party titanium frame which would probably solve his problem. So again what are you paying for ? It’s really like branding is so important or social pressure or the idea to look down on others. It’s artificial. Ask any B third party shops, they recommend to rethread the BB area because it’s not even. In the past it was. So the quality went down. I’ve seen people compare old brompton welding versus new. I suppose that’s an outcome of high demand during the pandemic. Reduce quality for more output. I don’t doubt brompton will have 7 speed in the future or maybe 9 speed. All the third party “clones” are more innovative with their designs. My friend just bought a Barbour. She’s into looks and she was like this is like a 200 dollar bike. I think she’s at least 800 more in modding the bike and replacing parts. It makes you wonder if Brompton should just sell the frame. Or better if they did collab projects and license their name to more innovative factories and get some of that profit 🤷🏻♂️
Agreed, after having Bromptons in China, Egypt, Hong Kong and USA, transport has been super smooth. I've had a Birdy, Tern Verge P10, Verge S8i and Stridas. Brompton's engineering definitely has the edge when considering all factors. May not be the lightest, or fastest, but overall, it does everything well!
No doubt the Brompton is an amazing folder, and I haven't seen anything that comes close to it in terms of folding size. However, I test ride a couple, and I couldn't get on with the ride experience. I ended up going for a slightly larger folder. It's not great to push around when folded, and it's generally easier to just unfold and wheel as a bike. However I've gone on 100km cycles on it, which i just couldn't contemplate on a Brompton.
@Petrelli on wheels I thought the Brompton steering was a bit "twitchy," at first... say, for about 15 minutes. Then I realised it could be made to feel normal by holding the grips by their ends, which I did for another 15 minutes... That was years back. Now I think of the Brompton's handling as "responsive"... a much more pleasant ride than my heavy electric bike, which seems lumbering by comparison. *So, am I a fan boy for the Brompton? You BET I bloody am!* And, the longer I have it, the more of a fan I am.. ... (well, except for the cost of tyres. I very much resent that I am charged twice the price for a tyre half the size, especially as I have to replace them twice as often. Yes, Brompton tyre costs are four times as much as a bike with full-sized wheels.)
Bromptons are bloody expensive but that's because they're good quality and handmade in the UK. They're not great value for money upfront but they'll last longer than most bikes at the same price point. As an added bonus, if you decide you don't want it any more then the resale value is way higher than most bikes because people *know* they're good.
No true. My experience with both systems of Brompton and Dahon, they are just as easy. The video was a little misleading, the Dahon system is with a magnetic latch to hold the two wheels (not demonstrated in this video!) parallel for pushing far more smoothly than the Brompton little rollers. When I pushed the Brompton system as he did, the suspension was very near to the ground, often dragging along. The only advantage for the Brompton system is the small folded size, otherwise this 40 year old design is aging, especially the screw locking mechanism and external cable routing.
As a Dane I don't feel any obligations against Britain and British Products and though my 2019 Superlight bike is now added to with a lot of Eastern Components, it still looks mostly like a Standard version! But it weighs below 9 kilo, even with mudguards. And Brompton has had its time to earn a profit before the end. Finn. Denmark
Can I add this looks like an infomercial where the person is purposely clumsy 🤡 A bifold can be pushed with one hand if it folds equally in half.
