- Bonzo would have turned 76 today. He is an eternal inspiration. Here is some more "Bonham Engine" work. This time I'm playing some variations on the usual single strokes, throwing in doubles, flams, alternate stickings and ideas off the usual themes. Also, flowing between different time signatures, phrasing in 5/4, 7/4, 6/4, 4/4.
Try coming up with your own variations!
About the kit:
26x14, 14x10 (12 lugs),16x16, 18x16 RCI Starlite Super Duty acrylic shells, with Ludwig classic lugs, mounts, claws and t-rods, repro pointy badges, vintage Ludwig rail mount. Snare is a mid 70's 6.5x14 Ludwig 402 Supraphonic.
RCI has been making high quality acrylic shells for nearly 20 years. RCI Super Duty shells are made in America. They feature a welded (not glued) seam, 45 degree glass cut edges, and are scratch and impact resistant. They are very resonant and feature exceptional projection and tone.

Happy Birthday Mr. Bonham!!!!!!!!!
You and Bonzo are the only people I have ever heard make vistalites sound really good. I have played them and could never get them to sound right. This is a very tasteful tribute to Bonham.
Thank you!
Great tribute to the greatest drummer.
Billy Cobham
George you have inspired me to take my drumming to another level! Thanks for sharing your work and God given talent!
Great playing, beautiful sounding kit ... If JHB can hear this out there then I'm sure that he'd be both impressed and flattered ... Happy Birthday Bonzo .... There have been many brilliant drummers throughout the ages but only one who could move the earth ....
And of which there is no equal.
Spectacular tribute worthy of the legend, Mr John Henry Bonham !
Well said, And thank you for the compliment.
Great demonstation!
Excellent! A very nice tribute to Bonzo.
Bello/Magnifico.😭✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️🎂
Beautiful work George, this is honey for the ears and brain. I can hear a lovely major third relationship between the first 2 toms, and a half-step between the low 2.
What a nice shirt hehe, thanks for the impeccable video as always.
A great one as every year George! Happy Birthday Bonzo! 🎉🥁🎂 (Love the T-shirt btw G!)👍
Thanks Claes!
Nice tribute to the best drummer, good job !
Excellent!
That was great!
It’s so cool to hear someone exploring but so authentically in Bonzo’s style. You were doing stuff that I’ve never heard him play but sounded exactly like something he would have played. Bravo man, you’re treasure to all of us that love Bonham and Zeppelin!
Thanks, I really appreciate that
2 of the most influential people in my life celebrating a birthday on this day and both gone. My mom and Bonham. Thanks for the tribute and keep on drumming. We’re all a little jealous of your talent. Thanks George!
What a perfect birthday tribute George, I hope he could hear you up there! The sound of your drums is absolutely spot on, very nice!
Thank you!
Hot knife through butter smooth!!!! wow!
Nice!
Well played, sir. Rest easy Bonzo.
my HH calf is burning. Fantastic Geo!
So bad ass thankyou George
You got a rabbit foot!
Happy birthday, John! Wow, I am just absolutely blown away and I can’t get the grin off my face, George! Thank you so much.😊
Thanks! 😊
Tom 1 is quite vocal (at my speakers at least). I could listen to it all day :). How could I ever imagine that I'd be watching drums solos without skipping a single second. This one progressed so nicely. Congrats.
Thanks!
Feels like "Bring it on home" ending is coming its way right behind the corner
Awesome my Brother 🥁🎶
Nice interpretation...
That was GREAT ! ! ! !
🙏🏻
Hi Georg, brilliant und wonderfull. Happy Birthday Bonzo. Greetings from Germany. Peter
Just before eight minute mark…….Sweet!
Celebrating a great drummer by a great drummer 🎉
Verwijderen
So well done!! Love the part at nine min (as well as all of it)
Hi George! Sounds fantastic my friend. The only thing missing is the hi-hat tambourine!
Thanks Geo, I'm going to be looping this one all day!
🙏🏻
I think you have your new favorite set there George. Sounds so good
HBD, killer shirt and playing.
It’s a funny thing, life has been so hectic lately that I looked at my phone and saw “May 31”, and for the first time in since I was 14 (1980) I was like, “Wait today’s important…” and freaking blanked! Then this came up. So thanks George for bringing me back home! Amazing work as always. I know I’ll watch this many times.❤
Thank you!
@@BONHAMOLOGY You’re welcome. I made up for my lack of memory by putting on the first boot I ever had: Bonzo’s Birthday Party LA 1973. Pagey playing with the sprained finger he caught in the gate at Long Beach Airport, and still an absolute killer!
I've been trying to find paiste shirts and nobody sells them except for the these online tee-shirt places that make them their self
Great work !!!🇺🇾
❤
Wish he was still here! In Bonzo though Maxx still lives as well!
Wonderful tribute George. I got into a trance on this one!
Thanks! Me too! 😁
Thank you!!!
Awesome George. I love how Bonzo would almost play riffs. He'd work out an idea on the fly then play around with it and mould it into something fresh. I see that in this video. It's Bonhamesque but not exactly what Ive heard him play on bootlegs.
I really appreciate that comment, because that's exactly what I'm hoping to convey. 🎯
Hypnotic Meditation 👍
Bonzos energy In the universe thanks you for keeping his playing alive
Hey George great playing as always. Funny your hi-hat work reminds me of something my brother used to say watching bonzo my left foot is getting tired just watching him 😂
😅 thanks!
Tasty and musical- and the drums sound fantastic. I'm growing attached to the vista sound.
Thanks Terry! I'm glad you encouraged me to get a kit!
Love it George, happy birthday to Bonzo.
Happy Birthday John, in your loving memory.
Thanks George.
Regards,
Dave
Great video! You have those Vista's sounding spectacular!🔥🥁😎
Thanks 🙏🏻
Thank you George!!
Rippin.. nice work!
As Always you are Great ! .....Thank you !....... it was a Great Tribute , he enjoyed it too !
HBD Bonzo! Great tribute George!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Without a doubt my favorite drummer! PEACE ✌️
Keeping the spirit!!! Thanks Professor!!!!
I was talking with a friend yesterday about Page, Jones and Plant playing without Bonham. Several have stepped in for reunions but nobody had Bonham’s touch. You channel the touch, sound and spirit of John Bonham.
Your recent long Bonhamesque solos are wonderful. Please keep them coming. Keep the spirit alive.
Thanks! 🙏🏻
Happy Birthday Bonzo!!! And great as always George!!
Hello George. Great work with the channel.
Request please ~ Over The Hills & Far Away from March 4th, 75'
Again, great fills, and the interplay between Bonham & Page is brilliant.
That is a great version. However, there is a moment where I think the time gets off between Jimmy and Bonzo. Bonzo is really on fire on that version though. I'm going to dig deeper into that one
Astonishing!
So good. Smooth as butter.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome Awesome Awesome!!!!
Ɓest birthday party I've been to in a very long time 😊
Simply amazingly breathtakingly brilliant !
🙏🏻, thank you!
nice tone!
Learn something every time I watch your videos. You and those drums sound so good, thanks for posting!
That's a high compliment, thank you!
Amazing George just close your eyes
And you have 1975 the song remains the same Moby Dick John Henry Bonham
Uhhhh, you gotta tell me where you got that shirt.
eBay!
Mesmerizing - great work!!
This was awesome. Cheers! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🥁
Terrific work, George Fludas! What Paiste cymbals are being used here? I like the Paiste Giant Beat t-shirt you are wearing. Bonham, one of a kind, of which there is no equal.
24-In vintage 602 ride, 18 and 20 in 2002. Crashes from the '70s, 15 in Sound edge 2002 hats from The '70s as well. Thank you!
Happy Birthday John!!! Second and very importantly, where did you get that AWESOME Paiste-Giant Beat T-shirt? Amazing drumming George!!
Thank you, I got it on eBay!
BONZO was in a drum world of his own, John left us away to remember him and to celebrate our own style. Now let’s play for the love of all drummers.o
Come on, u gotta get Bonzo right! : )
Bozo???
BONZO!!!!!!!!
Hey Alex Reiger- no cake with Herb Tarlek this time? Still a great video, thanks, Ill get a cake today.
😂
You know you can play that same solo on a bop gig with a small kit, and it would tear the house down. Or on z big band song drum feature like Whirly Bird.
I have occasionally broken into this type of thing and people seem to really dig it. 😊
nice! r those silver or black dots?
The greatest tribute you could give to the greatest drummer. Thx George.
🙏🏻♥️ thanks George
Hi George,I wanted to ask you if you know any live recordings of Led Zeppelin playing BETWEEN FOR ONE and FOR YOUR LIFE?.....thanks.....
Un saluto dall Italia ✌....complimenti
Do you mean Tea For One? Neither of those songs was played live with Bonzo. They played For Your Life at the O2 reunion concert with Jason on drums in 2007
@@BONHAMOLOGY..thanks.....( yes , of course, I meant "TEA FOR ONE")😊...👋
Great tribute to John but if you made that up on the fly that's the best drum solo I ever heard right up there with John and Neil
Thanks Chris! Yes I did. I've been practicing that type of soloing over the bass drum hi-hat Bonham engine thing again more often. Trying to expand the ideas
Here we go again respect..but your not Bonham..we all need to have our own thing going on that's what makes us individual.
I have my own thing going on. I've been a professional jazz musician for over 35 years. This is something that I enjoy doing here to share on RUclips. Also, the whole point of this post is to explore your own ideas whilst being influenced by Bonzo, or any drummer for that matter. I'm not an innovator, I'm just sharing what I enjoy about the instrument with regard to the influence that Bonzo has had on me. If you know anything about me, I love all the great drummers and have borrowed from them all, learned something from them all. I'm not playing exclusively Bonzo's ideas, patterns, whatever you want to call it. There are a lot of variations going on here that he did not play.
The dude is dead, & wasn’t great, Tull’s Clive Bunker was twice as good🙈💩.
Crikey - your thighs must be like Popeyes forearms...
😂
And then topping it off with some quads at the end. Great stuff, George. 💪🏼
