- I'm very proud to debut this magnificent RCI Starlite John Bonham tribute kit!
26x14, 14x10 (12 lugs),16x16, 18x16 RCI Starlite Super Duty acrylic shells, with Ludwig classic lugs, mounts, claws and t-rods, repro pointy badges, vintage Ludwig rail mount.
For those of you who aren't familiar, RCI has been making high quality acrylic shells for nearly 20 years. The founder, Romano Cotone reached out to me last fall and offered to construct a Bonham replica kit, so I ended up ordering this kit along with a mini 18,12,14 bebop sized (Jazzette) version, just the like one Jason Bonham is seen playing in The Song Remains The Same.
These drums are really amazing quality, both visually and sonically. RCI Super Duty shells are very durable, look great, and sound fantastic! They feature a welded seam, glass edges, and are scratch and impact resistant...and they are made in America.

Some other Ludwig stans would say that it’s not official unless they were manufactured by Ludwig themselves, but I’ve seen the work that RCI has done, and their shells and productions are so beautiful and well done that I can’t express it. I think it’s beautiful that there are authentic and vintage Ludwig parts on this kit, especially the badges. I wish I would have been around to see Ludwig in the 60’s through the 80’s, they made great things, and still do! RCI did an AMAZING job with these. Good to see them!

Thanks for the first look. Yeah, you guys got all the details right--even down to the mylar gaskets and the serialized badges. At first I said to my self, "why wouldn't you just buy a Ludwig kit?" But, the answer is clear; it would look (and probably sound) inauthentic with those modern rubber gaskets and all the dampening they do nowadays. Thanks again, and enjoy that stunning recreation!
Yes, agreed.... I didn't want the heavy rubber gaskets.

Love RCI shells! Terry and Wally Dellenbach got me started with the 12 lug tom! Gonna work my way up to the 26" bass drum and hopefully complete the kit with all RCI shells the same as you!

Wow when the light hits them, they really are amber ( just like Bonhams in tsrt ) , maybe it’s just me but the ludwig reissues dont have that hue to them. I totally agree with other comments these are tuned to absolute perfection, as we say in Ireland well ware George ❤

I love it! I have a Pearl Crystal beat in Tangerine Dream (in my channel pic.) They are smaller sizes than your kit, but the acrylic shells in my opinion are THE best shell material for live drumming. They aren't as susceptible to moisture and the fundamental tone of them is clear as a bell.

Beautiful! And I totally agree about liking the 12 lugs on the 14” tom over the current 16. 12 sounds better and easier to tune IMO.

I built a kit like that but I used golden silver shells back in the day. They sounded great yours sound amazing I think they’re tune too low. I know you’re an expert at this, but they sound better. If you tune them up a little bit, they cut through but I’m not gonna tell you cause you’re the expert love your videos keep them up you’re the best.

Congrats!! You're going to absolutely love this in live action. I've recently put coated emperors on mine and oh boy, do they sound perfect. Black dots are fantastic for vistalites aswell, but for some reason I just cant get used to clear heads. Enjoy!

That looks like the kit from the video from Madison Square Gardens . It sounds so much like it too.
Being a replica, are you able to customize bearing edges? What about tone control. I know the originals did not have tone control, but I imagine the bearing edge would have to compensate some how for the overall tone. They sound and look great! Rock on George!
I'm not sure but they're fine to me as they are. I wouldn't want to change the edges. I decided against mufflers since I wouldn't be using them.

Thanks, yes, it's a pretty loud room. I'm working on getting some sound treatments up. I can't remember the model but they're just Shure headphones

Awesome kit & tone! How are you tuning the snare to get that crack? I have the same snare, but yours sounds much better.
Thanks, basically the bottom head is very tight and the batter side is medium tight. You might want to try going a little tighter on the battery side than you think you need to so you get more crack, but keep in mind it's also how you hit the drum how you draw the sound out, not just the tuning

I'm not sure but I think it's 60s or '70s, I had it rebuilt by vitalizer and they did a custom paint job on it. Thanks very much!
How do they drill holes in that material.i would be worried about it cracking when drilling
I'm not sure. I never tried.
I used my Milwaukee drill and some 3-in-1 oil to mount my cymbal holder to my bd. GO SLOWLY. I’m a contractor and have experience using tools. You can crack the acrylic if you’re too harsh.
The tone is superb!!

Lol, how is it legally possible that Ludwig badges can be counterfeited? I don't know who would be more distraught.... Ludwig or the used sellers who rip badges off Ludwig drums to sell for inflated prices.
