My son is 23 now, but I swear listening to little Charlotte reminded me so much of when he was first born. He cried the first 12 weeks. It felt as if he would never stop. He had the acid reflux and had gas pains. I worried so very much! I know it feels like there is nothing that will help, but she will eventually get better. I promise. I would just find a position he liked and pat and pat and pat and pat, till he either passed the gas or went to sleep. I don't think I slept those first few months at all. I PROMISE IT GETS BETTER!!! That is important to know, I feel. I will pray for y'all. Sending lots of love!

Mikayla, you're doing a fantastic job! My firstborn was like this. Nursed for 45 min at a time every 2 hours and cried after every feeding. He spit up tons, always grunted and squirmed trying to poop, and I slept maybe 8 hours a week. I feel for you! I just wanted to let you know it was 4 intense months of my life, and he's 11 now. Just survive and keep the baby alive. That's the whole job. You're doing fantastic!

Same here. Mine is a senior in high school, but I was ready to put him on the curb at 8 weeks. Totally understand you are in survival mode. It was the hardest thing of my life, as my husband was in Iraq till he was 4 months. And it did get better about that time. Partly because he was getting older and partly because I was no longer a single parent.

My daughter screamed constantly for 4 months. I could not breastfeed. Doctor switched formulas, even neonatal kind. It turned out she had a pyoloric spasm and ulcer from it. Blood in her poop. She went on pepcid and a lactose free formula (after 3 days on pedialyte to cleanse her system)and within 2 days was perfectly fine and slept thru the night. It took 4 months and specialists to figure it out. Too long in my book but she is a nurse now and has been perfectly healthy. They said all the buildup and reflux causd bowel irritation which caused the blood. She was in a lot if pain. She is not allergic to dairy since 3 years old. I hope she gets some relief and you also.

My son would ball his fists up and cry. Took him to the pediatrician. His issue? Backed up he needed to poop. Then I got on this really expensive formula and stopped breast-feeding him. No more bouts with crying and discomfort . and he’s Ivy League D1 football player now so it worked out :-)❤️🙏🏾

If your goal is to continue to breastfed I would highly recommend finding IBCLC in your area to do a detailed oral exam and determine if there are any tongue or lip ties that can be affecting her latch and also making her take in air during a feeding. Additionally you likely have an oversupply currently (it can be common the first few weeks as your supply regulates… happened to me as well) if you have an oversupply and strong letdown she can essentially be gulp, gulp, gulping so fast because your milk is coming at her like a hose and she’s taking in a lot of air because of this and leads to reflux and gas and bellyaches. Your doctors recommendation of switching to formula for a week and bottlefeeding to see if it helps isn’t necessarily relevant because it could appear that she’s doing better but it’s really just that the flow of a bottle is much more controlled than if you have oversupply and she’s getting too much volume too fast. Also, highly recommend the babocush to attach to a mamaroo or baby bjorn. There are so many other tips and tricks to share and also ways you can help with a strong letdown.

I second finding a good IBCLC. it was night and day with my baby. He had a tongue and lip tie. He would gulp so much air while breastfeeding and would get super colicky. After the tongue release and some suck training, he got so much better. He's 12 months old now, and I'm still nursing him. 😂

My oldest son had acid reflux when he was a baby. We had to give him medicine and it worked wonders. I did not breast feed but he would throw up entire bottles. The meds really helped because he was able to actually hold down a bottle. We also switched his formula to Similac Total Comfort. We also had to mix in corn syrup into his bottles to help him poop. It’s an old fashioned trick but it worked. His doctor told us to do it, he was perfectly safe. He was pooping regularly after about a week. It gets better, hang on! After about the first two months things got so much easier.

    Sorry about your troubles! 💐
A suggestion is to wear earplugs to help take the edge off her crying. Babies cries are designed to get parents to act and care for them. But when you’ve done all you can and have to just endure, earplugs can take the edge off….and preserve your nerves.
    Also, Your pediatrician seems great!
2nd suggestion…My first two babies had acid reflux until I figured out I was a producing too much milk. They just got the more watery, initial milk and not the more fatty hind milk because I was switching sides too quickly. Once I let baby nurse a long time on one side and not even offer 2nd side until next feeding, it went much better. Took a day or two for my milk supply to even out though. But once they got the “thicker” milk it stayed down better and less gas.
But you will figure out what works for you. And make it through this!
Thanks for sharing so others can benefit too❤😊

Breastfeeding is amazing and beautiful, when it works for you! And moms and dads sanity, is first, you have to take care of you, so you can care for your baby! Also, being open to formula, is so great in this situation, you are thinking of her comfort, and the possibility of the quickest way to get her there! I breastfed my first for 6 months, my second for 4 and we’re going on 9 months with number 3! This is my most successful journey as 1 and 2 had weight issues and problems with my diet, and they told me her relief would be quicker with formula than if I cut out dairy because of the length of time it takes to come out of your system after you stop dairy. A fed and happy baby is always best! Prayers for you and sweet Lottie to do what is best for you both no matter the route!

I’m so sorry you are dealing with this! My daughter cried and screamed for the first 6 months- year of her life. She is 8 years old now and is a pure joy-hang in there! It DOES get better and she won’t cry all day forever!!
My daughter does have FPIES (which we found out when we tried solids) along with GERD but can tolerate dairy/soy just no rice or oats!
I ended up going the Nutramigen route at 2-3 months for her (regular anthem insurance does cover it if the baby has reflux and allergy). I felt helpless and couldn’t ever get things to improve with my diet. I also needed more sleep to deal with all the crying. It was survival mode.

Ask your doctor about feeding therapy (different from lactation consulting). Our son was in pain & had acid reflux. The feeding therapist helped tremendously. He wanted a faster flow and she helped us get the correct size nipple for a bottle that kept up with his flow needs and I pumped for him. She also gave us a wedge that perfect fit the crib and he slept in that which helped his acid reflux. She stayed with us until he started eating solid foods & she helped us to know which spoons were best. She was amazing!

This takes me back to my first baby. He had AWFUL reflux, we were in the pediatrician so often the first couple of months with him until we finally found a medication that worked. I can’t remember which one it was, but it had to be mixed at a compound pharmacy (Taylor Drug in American Fork -literally lifesavers for our sanity). Within days of the medication he was a new baby. He was finally comfortable enough to sleep, he was happy and rested. Good luck! There’s a solution, but sometimes it takes a while to find. Your pediatrician seems amazing with great information and willing to help you find your solution.

5 of my 6 kiddos all have food intolerances, none a true allergy but the elimination diet was a 💯 worth it. They literally were a new kid by end of the second day. And all of them had "reflux". Also, check for a tongue tie. Not by a pediatrician though. Someone who is trained in baby tongue ties, usually a dentist because it's an airway issue.

One other thing--are you wearing her? Like in a wrap or carrier? One of my boys would only nap when I was wearing him. I used to walk outside for miles and miles. It takes weeks for dairy to exit your body and dairy is in so many things you don't realize dairy is in. Taking Cara Babies is amazing!!!! It had our baby sleeping by 7 weeks!! My daughter never needed official sleep training later on because we did the newborn method.

The formula can be hard to get the baby to drink. Both Nutramigen and Alimentum don’t taste all that great. But these formulas work on soy and dairy allergies. Ask them to test if she has blood in her stools. Your not being selfish. Babies get the most benefit from breast feeding in the first month.

Thinking of you and hoping for answers soon. My son (20) was on nutramagin for severe reflux. It worked but the first 6 months were excruciating. Hang in there and hoping you find answers soon to make it easier on everyone!

Even if you do breast feeding, it is still a good idea to pump if you have a deep freezer! You can freeze it for other people to give her if you go out etc….. and to use in some cooking/baking for her when she starts to eat!!
And- depending on your insurance, if you get an Rx for the nutramagen formula, your insurance may cover some of the cost! As an NICU nurse, it is definitely something to look in to!!

My daughter had silent acid reflux, rarely ever threw up, but we had to hold her up for 30 mins after EVERY feeding or she would grunt and cry in her sleep constantly. It’s exhausting when they’re this young and you have to hold them up for half an hour after every feeding, but it does help. I never had to change my diet and never gave her medicine. Also, probiotics may help with the colic too.

My daughter had trouble nursing and sucking too and her biggest issue was gas. I had to massage her stomach every time she ate and make sure she was sitting up after feeding her and that helped with her reflux. And i also helped her toot because of all the gas. That was how we survived. Im so glad your doctor is willing to help!

It sounds much more like a tongue tie than anything. And it’s super common for misdiagnose to be exactly what info you’re getting. There is a state by state list of doctors who can accurately diagnose tongue tie. Go to one of them. It’s statistically significantly more likely to be that than anything.

My granddaughter went to a GI pediatric specialist a month after she was born because she had silent reflux. Them put her on meds. She is now 8 months and she is sooo much better. Still on meds and is on Enfamil AR. My daughter had been breastfeeding and using the AR to keep the formula down. At 6 months, she went to strictly Enfamil AR.
Good luck! I know the crying is hard and you feel helpless. Hopefully you have support to help you so you can get some rest. It was horrible on my daughter in law.

This is for way ahead in the future once you start going through your plans but if you do decide to go for formula and you're still producing good milk, I wonder if there's a place near by you you can donate your milk. Just a thought. Sending out prayers and soothing vibes to you guys and Lottie's tummy. You guys are doing amazing and she is definitely receiving all your guys love.

Maybe just exclusively pump and bottle feed her that milk. Jonas can help at night with the feeding too while you pump. Dr. Browns help us with the acid reflux/spit ups issue a lot.

My son had horrible acid reflux until 6 months and had colic for first 4 months of life. He was on acid reflux meds for 6 months. It wasn’t until we had his posterior tongue tie & lip tie fixed at 7 months old that everything got significantly better.

My son did so much better on the drops but the gut issues only really started getting better around 4 months. We're hoping they improve even more when we start solids (tomorrow!). As for TCB, we did it at 3 months and omg it really works.

Hi!!! I’m not sure if you have tried going completely gluten free but, my little girl went through the same thing and it was horrible. I used to have to sleep sitting straight up holding her on my chest for her to get any rest. It took 7 years for the pediatricians to figure out what was wrong with her.

  • @ashleybrude2846

We went through the same things with our first baby. It seemed like he was always hurting and could never sleep. Tried *everything* to help him feel better. Though we never saw blood in his stool, his bowel movements were almost never the right color and consistency. We had his poops tested and the pediatrician said there was definitely something irritating his stomach but we could never figure out what. (I tried dieting from every possible allergen for at least two weeks each.) He also spit up a ton, way more than I’d ever seen any other baby. The acid reflux medicine didn’t seem to help. His little system eventually matured and he was able to sleep through the night by 6 months. Things got better after that. But I know how hard it is to see your baby in pain and not be able to fix it immediately - it’s torture for both of you 😓 Looks like y’all are trying your best! Keep up the good work and keep praying about everything 🙏🏼

My oldest child (now 22) sounded very much like your beautiful girl did in this vid. Turns out she has food allergies to everything including the protein in breast milk. Removing dairy from your diet so you can keep breast feeding is really tough. Breast feeding is normally best but it isn't always the case so don't keep at it just because you feel you should (my other two kids have no allergies). Remember babies don't come with a user manual, it is always trial and error. Hopefully you find a normal that works for you. The best parents are the ones that care and keep trying to get better - seems like you have that down pat already.

my first had reflux. we put her cot matress on a slight angle.. which nowadays you can get a wedge. it helps the reflux to stop. she went on a formula for bottlefed that is slightly different from the regular formula.
also check what foods you are eating as they can go through breastmilk. onions and garlic are shocking. as well as spicy foods.

That sounds so familiar with your little one screaming away....my first 4 were that way too...I was often told my baby couldn't have dairy cause it had a colon infection. So after those 4 babies I dug in deep into probiotics etc....and finally found 2 kinds of liquid probiotics that really helped baby number 5 and #6 be so content that I could hardly believe it. They started being really fussy at around 2 weeks as well , and their stool started to get really slimy and greenish which I knew from my previous babies ....was a sign of an infection in the gut. So I gave them those 2 probiotics every day for about a month...and it took 3 days till they got way more content again and the stool changed to normal yellow and not slimy any more. Literally so content that my husband said he had not heard the baby cry yet after being a few months old. Yes they would whimper a bit , but not the scream cries we were used to. The thing that I found is that a baby's stomach and colon can't digest the food so well yet which often results in really irritating the colon... And it ends up getting infected....then once it's infected , the sugars in dairy are to harsh on the infected intestines.......but if you give the baby probiotics it gets the infection away, plus builds up more of the friendly flora which help fight infections and digest food better. I'm sharing this because I so wish I had known it with my oldest 4....I would have enjoyed the newborn stage so much more instead of just wishing them bigger so they would finally be more content . I also used ( super papaya enzymes from Puritan's Pride) for myself after each of my meal....which also helps a lot so the baby doesn't get so gassy. I hope you find help for your little darling soon so you can enjoy this baby stage more yet! All the best !!

Girl just switch to formula! My little one had similar issues with breastmilk; once we switched to formula everything got so much better. You always hear that 'breastmilk is sooo good for them' but when your little one is screaming and hurting every time they eat, it's just not worth it. You're doing great!

If you end up trying the formula, I highly recommend Alimentum! both of my kiddos needed it after trying LOTS of others (including Nutrimagen) first for my firstborn. Nutrimagen stinks terribly, too 🤣. We also used gas drops for the first couple months, too, multiple times a day. My firstborn ultimately ended up needing reflux medication on top of the Alimentum.

Mama of 4 all with a dairy allergy. I feel your pain. They can’t always see blood in the poop but they can by testing it. Also if she is paying a lot of mucus it would be an allergy or intolerance.
I use a warmie stuffy (microwaveable stuff animal). Warm it up and hold it onto tummy or up against it.
Right now I have dairy free, soy free, peanut and legumes and now egg free with my almost 5 month old. If peanut butter is a staple for you you can use sun butter and cashew butter.
