Your mission, should you choose to accept it... is to watch all of the Mission Impossible movies for the first time! That's right, this is my first time watching Mission: Impossible. Like, any of them. I have somehow never seen a single one. But that's about to change as I marathon all six leading up to the two-part finale of Ethan Hunt's sneaky sexy little adventures. This commentary track will self destruct in 5... 4... 3... 2... 💥
Plot (via Wiki):
In Mission: Impossible, Ethan Hunt is framed for the murder of his IMF team during a botched mission in Prague and accused of selling government secrets to an arms dealer known only as "Max". On the run, Ethan seeks to uncover the real traitor and clear his name.
In Mission: Impossible 2, Ethan goes back in action and works with professional thief Nyah Nordoff-Hall. The duo go undercover to stop rogue IMF agent Sean Ambrose (who is also Nyah's former lover) from stealing a deadly virus, starting a pandemic, and selling the antidote to the highest bidder.

I think MI2 is like the second or third highest grossing one of the franchise. Even though it's terrible, it made enough money to continue

I feel like all of Bollywood saw the second mission impossible and ran with that style for a whole decade because of it. This movie felt like a fever dream.

MI3 is where I think the series really takes off, it's really dark and gritty and still fun and after that they kept their stride in my opinion. Also, I love the Balloonshop reference, I miss those guys videos.

If the first 2 were Austin Powers, III is if Austin Powers woke up in the saw franchise and forced into human trafficking, and it couldn't have been a better course correction for this series
The third is great, but the tone and style in 4 definitely continues through the Christopher McQuarrie movies
This movie is so damn popular that people forget the original 60s and 70s series. Like the scene of him close to the floor and not touching it is like a pop culture reference, its huge!
Also the villain from the first movie is the main character from the original TV show. The balls they had to go that route!

MI:2 really feels like its the first mission impossible but from an alternate dimension.
The third is kind of the reset movie that brings it back to ground, but its actually the fourth movie that starts the formula for the rest of the series basically
Perfect description. To this day, I still think Philip Seymour Hoffman's villain in 3 was the best MI villain so far.
The Comedy Bros Yeah, MI3 is super underrated in general. Super excited for the next one, I thought Fallout was the best of all of them so far
Mission Impossible was directed by Brian De Palma so that's why it felt cool, fresh and charming. When they got to MI2 they decided to give it to John Woo to direct. It felt like a cheesy Hong Kong action movie.

As one of the biggest mission impossible fans out there, this is the best thing that could’ve happened! I’ve had a rough week, I’m tired, I sit down exhausted and open RUclips. I see the title of this video, I get concerned. I watch the first few seconds, it’s clearly a joke. Then you say you’ve never seen a mission impossible movie. I am shocked. Disgusted even. As I’m about to throw my phone across the room I hear the music. The rush of joy I felt is not able to be put into words. Thank you.

I absolutely love these. They all balance action with that cheesiness you see in the first one but to varying degrees of success. First one’s a classic, second one is so bad that i find it funny, third one i don’t love but you can see that they try to tonally shift very far from 2, then 4 gets back into the cheesiness but in a way that absolutely works for me, and then 5 and 6 are really solid

Parts 4-6 is the modern stunt era of MI with 3 being a transition point.

This series is like the twisted twin of Fast and Furious- it probably has long overstayed its welcome, but in this case it started weak- and after the soft reboot it actually got better.
they need to make a mission impossible movie except the villain is death from final destination: an immovable rock meets an unstoppable object, the protagonist of this series

I don't know if anyone else has already mentioned this but the guy Ethan impersonates in the beginning is in fact Tom Cruise in a mask doing an accent, so you're absolutely right! Also, I love these movies so much so this video made me very happy!

This is my favorite movie series of all time. I absolutely LOVE watching with people who have never seen them before. No apology necessary. I hope you watch them all!
MI2 is awful though and I typically tell people to skip it. 3 forward are unbelievably good.

Well in case you want to know what to expect, the third one absolutely changes the tone to be more serious, and the fourth one pretty much sets the standard for what the rest of the movies are like. Personally I'm a huge MI fan so I'm excited to see my favorite commentary channel take it on!

Mission Impossible movies are a weird enigma in my life. They've always been there, they've never been the most popular movies but they just seem to appear in my disc library.
And it's a damn shame they're not more popular. They deserve all the hype and praise that Bond movies always get. They're all so good (MI 2 aside), and only get better!

Oh i'm soo happy you've decided to give this series of films a try! It's honestly my favourite action franchise of all time- The first one is a true classic aside from the helicopter scene and the entirity of the 2nd film (which i just pretend it doesn't exist, because it's just terrible! I feel you, troughout the whole time i was so confused watching, how is tHiS a Mission Impossible film??).

I love the first one, it's a cool spy thriller and feels gritty and cool, but the second tried too hard. I don't remember the rest of them super well but I generally love these movies a lot

MI2 is the reason Hugh Jackman is Wolverine. Fox wanted Russell Crowe for the role and he turned it down and recommended Hugh for the role. The studio said no and instead cast Dougray Scott. X-Men was due to film a month after production of MI2 ended, but MI2 went way over the production time and budget. So Dougray wasn’t allowed to leave to do X-Men. Two weeks into filming X-Men Hugh was cast.
