Hi there, given that there is an immobilizer feature, is it able to program car keys?
Just bought it. First time using this scanner. Thanks for the infos.
I tried this tool for a week. It cannot replace the maximus 2.0.
I currently have a maxme i have to pay $20 monthly do you still have to pay monthly with this scanner just to use it? or is it open and you just buy updates when needed/wanted?
That was the whole point of the MaxMe and they said that on and at every marketing thing I saw. I dont own this scanner, I still own the Maximus 2.0 but either way with the 3.0 and 4.0 you can keep using the tool but if you dont pay for updates then it will just not be updated, my maximus 2.0 hasnt been updated in almost 2 years now. But if staying up to date is important in your work environment and you use it a lot then $20/m isnt that bad honestly.
How does this thing compare to the Autel maxisys ms906ts?
At 900$ per year subscription can you use it as a scan tool once the subscription ends or do you have to renew to keep using it
I can keep using it it just wont get updated to newer vehicles till I subscribe again.
Not sure it’s worth the extra. Money per year
Good review very helpful my MATCO person isn’t very helpful. I’m not a tech but I fix everything myself for everyone I know at my home garage probably 20-40 cars/trucks depending on who has what at the time. Time to upgrade from a normal obdII reader.
I own this tool, I've had it for a year now. Their are some ups and downs, when it comes to OBD1, I wouldn't even bother for it, but the OBD2 works well, ive serviced over 100 cars by now, my boss has an otc encore and their have been circumstances when the OTC would not connect and the Maximus will, but then again when connecting to some OBD1, the Maximus can't be my co workers ancient snap on brick can, I've feedback this problem before to Matco but they haven't done anything about it, the VIN scan feature doesn't always work if the sticker is kinda beat up which is obvious, I also have the Maxx drive adapter and it's a" flight recorder" I think it's a nice feature, I think you can also attach a boroscope from eBay to it, I don't regret buying it but I did need the OBD1 to work all the time
Thank you for the feedback! I still am using my Maximus 2.0 but I am surprised to hear you are so critical of the OBDI functionality, do you mind expanding? I dont see why it would be worse than the maximus 2.0 since its mostly the same software and to be honest I have had great luck with mine using the obdI adapters.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel we use Maximus 3 at my work, and I tried connecting my old Chevy Astro OBD1 just to read codes instead of counting the flashes haha, but I could not get it to work.
@@nathankennedy8704 Not sure why, I use my Maximus 2.0 on old OBDI stuff all the time and it works well! Read the manual maybe you were doing something incorrectly or its a problem with the vehicle because I know it is capable.
I've also had issues reading OBD1 vehicles like Chevy and Toyota trucks
Great review 👍
Great video. Question did you upgrade from your maximus 2.0 to the 3.0? Fellow tech asking. Deciding between a 2.0 that is up to 2020 and had the processor replaced, for $1800 off Matco truck? Have a really good Matco dealer but found a few 3.0s at different pawn stores( I know it could be a disaster) between 2000 to 2700. Trying to make a decision?
Would stay away from a pawn shop, get a launch if you aren't buying it off the tool truck to save money. As for the 3.0 it definitely is better than the 2.0, I still have my 2.0 though as I still owed money on it and they didn't want to give me enough trade in value to make it worth it. Also while the 3.0 and 2.0 are great scan tools, the scope that you can get to use with them SUCKS. I needed a better scope and opted to also get a used Verus for a great deal so now I have both the Maximus 2.0 and that which is nice because sometimes each one works better for different things or different vehicles.
I have been trying to use my Maximus 3.0 to scan various 7.3 diesel’s unfortunately I have been unable to hook to them and I needed to use my IDS program. I tried calling Matco customer support and I was unable to get a answer if the maximus was even capable of it. If there’s anything you can do to help I would appreciate any info.
Theres not anything I can really do to help you but I can say I have worked on many 7.3's with my Maximus 2.0. Are these in a bigger heavy duty chassis or just normal 97+ F250 to F350's?
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel just a f 250 maybe a 350 or 450 here and there. I paid about 55 to 6 grand for this and I’ve done 6.7 Injector coding many ABS bleeds but I cannot figure out why this will not do anything with a 7.3. All mechanics talk to each other if you have any info let me know brother
Sorry man no more info than what I told you already. I used the Max 3 for a week or two as a test unit and did a video but ended up keeping my 2.0, just used it on a 7.3 a few weeks ago idk why the 3.0 wouldnt the software seemed to be pretty much the same as far as vehicle access goes.
Questions about the tech to tech so, in order to use this feature, do other technicians have to have the same scanner (matco) ? In other words, can you tech to tech between autel and matco or, any other scanner and matco?
It is a launch/matco only thing they arent talking to autel. That said...I have never used the feature.
Pretty nice
Can it do ecu coding, for fords, vin writing etc, including chevy and dodge.
Not sure what all makes and models it can do but just messing with the demo scanner my matco rep loaned me it can do vin writing on my 17 forester xt as well as settings changes on the bcm like tpms disabling and expected pressure settings. Hope that helps.

Reading fuel injector functions messes up on mine
Interesting, would like to see what happens on it. Every tool has its own glitches and issues, I still have a Maximus 2.0 and a Verus. Love them both but happy to have the option cus some have issues with certain things the other will cover
I thought the 3.0 had a built in scope like the snap on varus/Zeus?
Nope, its an add-on deal...and its not great. It is the same scopebox you can use and same software that is on the Maximus 2.0.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel IMO,,,, If you are using a scope, the ONLY option is Pico. Anything else is a cheap imitation. For the price difference of the 3.0 to the Varus or Zues, one can purchase a PICO.
But the Zeus is at 11k price tag my shop bought one i use it daily and is a little buggy runs slow since is windows based on a small tablet but for me I’m thinking to grab this matco 3.0
Any thoughts on what Tech 2 Tech Function is for?
Like I mentioned in the video I havent tried it but I know its for sharing questions and advice with other techs. I think you can share waveforms and stuff too.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel That is exactly what it is for. You can have a tech at a different location log into your scanner and run operations, look at live data, pretty much take over control of your scanner to help run through anything the scanner is capable of. This would be great if you have multiple locations, and a lead tech that happens to be at a different location. he can log in from anywhere and take control of the scanner to assist in diagnosis. Not only does it share the info on your screen, it allows them to control the scanner from his scanner. The only downside, both tech must have 2.0 with tech to tech, or 3.0. (some older 2.0 did not have tech to tech, they had GoLo instead.)
Does the max flex set timming on 1999 chevy 350 with scanner
Awesome review looks like the launch throttle it’s prob the same thing. I have a launch torque that works really well.
Yes it is based on a Launch scanner. The Maximus 2.0 I have was based on the X431 pro.
and Thanks!!
GearHeads you still using this scanner? You have the torque too right?
Maximus 3.0 help on diesel engines?
Yes. Light duty & Medium duty are part of the base 3.0 Heavy duty would require the HD module which is sold separatly
Have you noticed that Maxfix/motor often don’t have any info on what I would think is a simple code?
I didn't mess with it too much, was more of a pain to use honestly than just using my laptop with ProDemand, AllData or Identifix. They were really pushing that when they released the scanner and how it was built in and you could look things up quickly etc. etc. but really all it does is links you to the website and autofills the vehicle data for you, its not built into the scanner app sadly and I lost interest and patience for it.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel good to know though, cause that's like an extra 1200 a year. So I could see saving some money by not purchasing it.
I got a gigantic Matco tool box in my garage rn
Nice! I like their boxes, but currently my extra money all goes to tools and at work I use the big 72" harbor freight box its been awesome.
@@GearHeadsGarageChannel interesting because my Matco tool boxes full of Harbor Freight Tools LOL I do have some Matco Tools like there torque wrenches
Can you actuate a lot of stuff
Yep thats half of what its for
Does this do ECU and/or key coding?
That’s what I’m trying to find out
@@johngabriele6532 Did You Buy The Tool?..... Do Report Back If You Can.
I’m also wanting to find out
The caddy should idle better than that no matter how hot the cam is honestly Not having brakes while driving low n slo can be embarrassing
SMH....
nice review i wonder how much to add the HD to it
www.matcotools.com/ecatalog/preview/#/item/MDHDM. This is for the HD add on module to the 3.0.
MATCO also offers a 3.0 dedicated strictly to HD. Therefore, if you are an HD tech, there is no need to purchase an automotive scanner & add HD to it. You can just purchase the HD scanner as a stand alone.
if you don't mind growing a beard while you're waiting on a process on this garbage scanner, then this one is for you. if you need something with faster processing and faster data, you better run
DO NOT BUY MATCO MAXIMUS ! THE QUALITY IS HORRIBLE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS EXTREMELY BAD. TRUST ME . YOU WILL REGRET AFTER !
Who are you? What is your experience with the product?
