Yes Bia! it's a movie to be loved. Great cast, great balance between differents stories, strange "ordinary life" of a village under those circumstance...and...obviously... the beautiful and intense love story ...my favourite 😉. Love these couple.

@@birgitmelchior8248 To be fair, Kristen Scott Thomas is British, although she lives off and on in France. Schoenaerts can do any accent. His American accent is remarkable.

This video reminds me of the French film called “le silence de la mer”. Everything seems very silent. The German guy has beautiful big expressive blue eyes and plays prelude de Bach on piano and the French girl ignores him because his enemy but she finally loves him in return. But the silence is very compelling. Can’t help but watch it over and over again.
I didn't watch "le silence de la mer" but I saw several fanvid from that movie and it's exactly like you just described. And yes, both movies have the same beautiful, delicate and sad atmosphere.
Isabel Dansoriental - I recommend you to watch it the French film “le silence de la mer”. It’s in RUclips with English or Italian or Spanish subtitles. It’s very beautiful. The actor that plays German captain is gorgeous. He has piercing blue eyes.

Haha yeah a number of people have commented that Matthias looks like Putin. Even though he does I still think he absolutely gorgeous. I love his street art as well - he is a hugely talented visual artist and actor ❤️❤️

No, can't see him as James bond. Not because he hasn't got the looks but I doubt it would interest him. He likes to take on roles that require him to really act and convey emotion. That is what he is good at, he has this wonderful ability to make you feel what the character is feeling without even saying a word, just through pure bodylanguage and eyes. Now a James Bond actor is good at physical stuff but that role hardly requires any "emotion" acting. Matthias is not the kind of actor who will take on empty parts in big blockbusters

Dificilmente ficariam juntos, infelizmente. No fim da guerra, se ele sobrevivesse, iria ser preso e condenado, até poderia ser logo enforcado como aconteceu com a grande maioria dos oficiais nazis. Os que conseguiram fugir acabaram, na sua maioria por ser capturados pela Mossad. Era um amor impossível desde o primeiro dia. As guerras é que nunca deviam existir e o amor deveria falar sempre mais alto. Teria sido interessante ver qual o desfecho que a autora lhes tinha reservado, nem sabemos se Bruno realmente morre, pois infelizmente ela não acabou o livro.

She finished two unrelated stories and was planning five tales altogether, but was put in a concentration camp after finishing this second one.

We don't know if Lucille's husband died or not, he was a war prisioner only. In the end, before she goes with Benoit to Paris, Lucille says to her mother in law, that Gaston will be back. Probably not, but we don't know.
@@BBA696 Probaby because the bad guys always come back. That husband had a mistress and an illicit daughter, named Simone. Poor Bruno didn't come back, as the author wrote and as the narrator told us.

He actually isn't fictional. The woman who wrote the book wrote it as a diary type thing. She died in Auschwitz and the book was never finished. That's why it ended the way it did
@@queenkataracat She did finish this segment, and Bruno dies, as the movie tells us, and as the story tells us, too. The author had 5 different stories she wanted to write, but the Nazis ended this great writer's life. Sadly, the author believed in the decency of mankind, and made her character, the soldier in her own image of the perfect man--one who wasn't a savage.

É inspirado num romance de Irène Némirovsky uma escritora judia que acabou por ser apanhada e deportada em 1942 para o campo de concentração de Auschwtiz onde viria a falecer um mês depois. O romance nunca chegou a ser acabado e só 60 anos mais tarde foi publicado pela filha dela.

Loli, they would have made a second half, but the French woman who wrote the book died in a Nazi prison camp early in the war. She made it clear that the German soldier died, as the narrator says at the end of the movie. The author's "crime" was being Jewish. Her husband died in a prison camp too.

I was at 6 rewatch
Please watch the movie " Silence of the sea" ...the same story....but the more tenderness for my opinion.
I’ve seen some of that one but it’s still not as good as this one, they at least speak to each other some in this, not just with their eyes but I believe in this one the German officer expressed his love by his actions more in this one and risked a lot more in this one, he went a little bit farther In proving his to Lucille. I say German officer and not nazi because by birth he was German but wasn’t a nazi in his heart.
