This movie was so good i thought..Matthias was the perfect guy for this role too..perfect bodyguard..and glad they portrayed someone with PTSD..my son had that..and its very bad..he was in the Army 6 yrs..and did actually wind up taking his own life after he got out. He carried a gun all the time with him..may he RIP..Sgt Robert Clinton Tolson..my son..

there are no words to describe his eyes
This is an intense movie with minimal dialogue that showcases Matthias best qualities as an actor. We watch him struggle from PTSD symptoms while intuitively transform into a natural protector. There were some fascinating scenes, when her gaze lingers on his muscular upper body while she coldly offers no acknowledging empathy of his bleeding wounds and then when he sees himself through her horrified eyes after she just watched him brutally bash the remaining intruders head beyond what was necessary. The ending leaves you frustratedly hanging...was it just his imagination, a fleeting moment of her overdue appreciation or the possibility of more...
I thought him bashing the intruders head was ultimately sweet since he was doing it bc the intruder attempted to harm her. Scary? Sure. But out of an attempt to protect her. The ending was indeed so frustrating, i wish they gave us something. I can’t believe she left without even saying a thank you or goodbye, made her look terrible.

Isabel.. thanks for posting this. I know you say the movie isn't romantic, and that's true in a sense. But somehow the tone of the movie is romantic; and the mention that Vincent looks like he's going to a wedding, well, the suggestion was always there, plus we know his intentions early on (he knows what she's wearing; he cranes his neck to look at her). Great movie, and a good introduction to Matthias Schoenearts.

I saw the writer-director on a Q&A, and she said she saw the movie as a love story. She even submitted it to a film festival for romantic movies, and it was rejected. They said it didn't qualify. I agree. The story takes place over a 2-day period, and Matthias and Diane Kruger have very little interaction. Physical attraction--yes. But calling it a love story is a pretty big stretch.
I think the best introduction to Mattias's acting work is Bullhead and Rust and Bone. He was so good in them. You should check it out if you haven't yet.

I would really like to see this film. So many veterans in and from the armed forces, go through this.
Going a bit off track. We are far more aware of it today, although there is still so much to do, but in my dad's time you were literally left to get on with it. So it was either drink or drugs. When I think of this, I think of the song by Richard Ashcroft of the Verve. The Drugs Don't Work.
It has destroyed marriages and families as a whole. Then that reaches down into the next generation. Its a never ending cycle, unless of course they get the help they need.
I've just read somewhere, that Matthias is underated. Well if he is, I hope he doesn't think he is, it certainly led him into some wonderful parts. I'll look forward to seeing this.

can anyone explains the ending? I've recently watched it, and I'm still confused.
I'm afraid the end is intentionally unexplained, so many explanations become possible. It could be a dream, it could be real...who knows, only who wrote the story I guess 😉
I don't think it's unexplained. He thought his chance with her was ruined (the reason he declined to go to the airport) because she was so shocked when she saw him beat that guy to death; he thought the beast in him was too much for her. So when she doesn't go, but declares herself, he is slow to respond, but he does start to entwine his fingers with hers. Trust me, it's not ambiguous; he's on his way to Canada.
@@jbrooksci You are right, we see all that you just explained ( and I want him on his way to Canada as well 😊) , maybe it's the music, the fact that the movie doesn't seem to prepare us for a good ending..it's a kind of sensation that makes me think it's not a clear ending. I have told with other people about that and they haven't an clear opinion too.

I think he did imagine that woman because he was attracted to her and that's not reality. Vincent did not come because he was aware of one thing that he could have hurt the woman because of his emotional instability, he has PTSD. And that woman I think she really cares about her own life, not her life with Vincent.

This video is somewhat misleading. His character has PTSD. He is her body guard. Her husband is away. So it is his job to watch her. He is not just lusting for her. Trying to find movie so I can watch it not buy. Reviews are mixed.
Reviews may be mixed, but imo it's a great movie, just subtle and somehow (despite violence) understated.. dialogue is sparse.. you have to really notice what the actors are conveying.. every viewer isn't always up for that.
I watched for free on Gomovies. You have to click past all the ads, but I'm ok with that.
