This was really fun! A couple of things:
The "comforter" and coordinating pillows actually are the cushion for the sofa/bed in the living room, and the tea set, phone and candy dish are supposed to go on the end table. This furniture was also sold separately during this time, and if you look at the photo on the box, you'll see what I mean.
Another thing: The insert for the planter box on the left section of the house is missing, I'm not sure if it wasn't included or if it just wasn't put in place during assembly.
If you have tweezers, those can be very helpful for placing the decals/labels/stickers on the various pieces. The curved tweezers that are often used with false eyelashes are especially useful for this. I always like to do a high quality scan of labels when I get vintage playsets that haven't been put together, so I can reprint them if they become damaged.
All in all, it was really fun to see this old set put together. I have the earlier version from 1979, but mine was not mint-in-box by any means, and required a lot of restoration to be presentable.

Scanning labels/stickers is super smart! Are there a lot of people who restore old Barbie toys, houses, ect?

    • @Siansonea

@@cheryl-lynnmehring8606 I don't know if a lot of people do it, but I have a pretty healthy Facebook group dedicated to sharing scans and the like. I think there is a fair number of people out there who want to restore old toys and keep them out of landfills.

I was born in 1982 and had this exact Barbie house. My mother assembled it entirely by Christmas morning, so it’s really neat to see this whole process of assembly. Tbh, I’m glad to have missed it. Looks tedious.
To have one’s own Barbie house was a real coming of age event. I remember we shamelessly played with Barbies till like 7th or 8th grade. To this day, I will play Monster High or Barbies and kinda enjoy it too. Idk why we think of it as ages 3-10. It’s a fashion doll!

So I’m pretty sure that “TV” in the bedroom that confused both Hope and Tyler was actually meant to be a VIDEO PHONE, which was a popular “futuristic/high-tech” concept in the 80s and 90s. You can even see the handset (like on old land lines) next to the screen and the little buttons for dialing, etc. If you’ve ever seen the original Total Recall movie, they have something similar going on. Hope this helps! ❤☎️📞

It's not a video phone, actually. It's supposed to be a TV. If it was a videophone, it would have a photo of someone using a phone for the video screen. This is the same construction as the 1979 Dream Furniture Bed, Nightstand & Rug, and I can tell you as someone who was alive and aware in 1979 that video phones were very much not a thing that year. But 'console' furniture with lots of gadgets built into them very much were a thing at that time.

I was 8 in '85 and my cousin had this and I was soooo jealous! The Barbie houses these could NEVER! I don't even think they give details like the plants these days and you DEFINITELY don't get that many accessories. You got your money's worth back then. Now they give you a few plastic items and call it $200+. I can't believe someone still had this in the original packaging untouched. That is crazy commitment!!

So many memories! I hope you do the cars, I had that red Ferrari and took it everywhere. I also had a carriage that came with the Cinderella play set.

I worked for a childcare center, and in 2018, we purchased a new Barbie Dream House for the center. I thought that one was nice, but this one from 1985 is way nicer than that one. I'm always so impressed with how detailed they are, and this one is so nice. I loved it had such a nice bedroom set with a foam mattress and a sheet and pillows and a comforter. And the flower planters were so pretty! It just goes to show how much better quality things were made back then. This set is 3 years older than me. My Barbies lived in cardboard boxes for years before I got a dreamhouse. I turned the boxes so the opening was on the sides and stacked them in different arrangements. Because they were often different sized boxes, the split levels were crazy. Luckily the stairs were all imaginary at that point!
Kinda fitting because the first dream houses were cardboard anyway

That phone TV was the weirdest thing for me, and I had this back in 1990. We literally had NOTHING like that back then.
I remember having strep throat AND scarlet fever during winter break that year, and Santa brought me the Dreamhouse...which was a total surprise because I don't remember asking for it. So I was still kinda sick Christmas morning and saw the box unwrapped under the tree, and I automatically tore into it to try to put it together myself because I was sick and excited. OMG. Hope, you just unlocked a memory for me. I had princess barbie! The dress had glow in the dark stars. I totally forgot about it, just seeing the design on the box made me remember! Holy smokes, I thought I only got knock-off barbies growing up.

You MUST follow up with barbie cars! I have my 1988 barbie camper van, it's been well played with and now my daughter is enjoying it. The latest Barbie camper is so awesome with a slide, I don't have it but watching your videos is making me think, why not? These toys have created so many decades of imaginative play!

I was 4 in 1985. But I remember just a few years after this came out I started hanging out with this rich, bratty kid that had it. I would suffer her snobby and absolutely atrocious attitude just so I could play with her dream house. We didn't have a lot of money and I only had one Barbie and that was a Peaches and Cream Barbie (which was my absolute freaking favorite to this day) I would come over there and play for hours.
As I watch you unbox this I can just remember all these memories of all these little pieces and parts and playing with them. Nothing screams 80's like wicker furniture and candelabras 😂 I was a kid who no little detail was wasted on. And actually that little miniscreen TV, I used to have the real version of that in my bedroom all the way up until the mid-90s when I was in high school.
    Side Note
My aunt , who was a living brunette Barbie 80's QUEEN(wore Jordache, Kswiss and drove a red Mustang)! She had a TV on the stand and a wicker loveseat that folded out in to a little twin bed. When I get to spend time with her I would sit on that loveseat and watch that TV and pretend I was Barbie!
Geez Hope, thanks for bringing back so many happy memories

I had the whole living room set when I was younger . Keep up the great work. P.S tried the hoodie skirt cropped top hack LOVED IT. Plan to do it again with different colored hoodies. Thank you! Have a good day . I know you made my day great.

This and the main videos are like living my Barbie little girl dreams! I could never get a Barbie Dream House even though it was on my Santa list every year (but they were expensive so I get it). The closest thing I had was a Barbie apartment that folded up into a suitcase. I loved it though because I could travel with it (which came in handy when I went to spend summers with my dad after my parents divorced). I still have it and now my niece plays with it along with my old Barbies.
Also, props to Hope for building all of those Barbie houses and accessories with those nails!! I know I would have broken all of them.

My parents got me one for Christmas back around 08 but got it MONTHS ahead of time so I honestly feel like they got it on a good sale before buying it because I don't think I would have gotten one otherwise. I told them I didn't care if it was my only gift the year before because I just wanted one.

This brought back so many memories. We had the 1979 version that was passed to us. W used to play for days in that house. Yes, days!!! I played with that house until I was 13 years old. BTW for the TV I had a very old TV 4 inch screen that you could bring with you everywhere and charge it in the car

EEEEk! I had this EXACT Barbie dream house. I watched your video and immediately called my mom and thanked her for taking the time to put it together and having it ready for me on Christmas morning. I was SO unaware of how long it took to put together and how much work it was. My mom said it took her and my step dad 12 hours, but they had fun doing it and its a really happy memory for her. My step dad passed away in February 2023 and she had never shared that memory with me. So thank you for this video because it started a great conversation of memories with my mom!

We had a travel T.V. In the 80’s that was like that. The channels were on a dial like a radio. It plugged in but also used 8 DD batteries. My sister and I shared the 1979 dream house.

All your Barbie content has been so much fun. I loved Barbies growing up. I think it's kind of funny that someone bought a Barbie Dream House in the 80's and never opened it up. I'm curious why someone would hold onto something all these years if no little girls were playing with it. But it's really fun to see a house in such great condition.
