    I’d love to watch the entire video in one sitting. You wouldn’t even have to narrate. But just to watch the interactions between all of the animals is fascinating, as well as funny sometimes! 😊. I could sit and watch this for hours!

      Me too! That's what made me want to post them. I figured there must be other people out there like me.
      When I have time I'll see if I can make sub-channels or something on youtube where I can post the full-length "nature meditation" versions of these videos with just the natural sound.

      Hi @Shipperchick, as requested I'm uploading a full 35 minutes of raw footage to a new playlist I'm calling Crabz Zen. No talk, just claws! I'll start doing that for all of them on this same playlist and make other playlists for the talkies.

    Dollar store canned fish is always a good option.

    Could you use an underwater parachute to turn the cage into the current flow? Fun to watch, thanks.

      @BobsUnderwaterCrabHouse-so2wo  5 месяцев назад +3

      That would definitely work! I already keep a sea anchor (basically an underwater parachute) on the boat. But putting one on the trap would involve adding another line and tangle point, plus it would make it much harder to pull up--and I'm all about making things easier!
      I'm in the process of building a gear shed and while moving around my accumulated bits and parts (what some people would call junk) I found two plastic parts that would work as current fins. No clue what they're from or how long I've had them other than probably at least 10 years. But this must be why I saved them. I love these small victories! I'm going to see if I can rig one on a trap and it it's a large enough surface area to turn it the right way. Thanks for watching and reaching out with an idea!

    Absolutely lovin' these videos, and your commentary, very informative and educational. I am also an east coaster around Worcester, MA that found my way to Wenatchee, WA.

      Alright! Great to know there’s someone else with a real accent out here! You're just a bit east with the fresh "waader" and I'm further west surrounded by salt "wooder."

    Great tip! It’s always hard to find good fish heads around cocoa beach, the fisherman’s alway beat me to them! I am Italian and love blue claw garlic tomatoe gravy❤ I have two big males this week so far

    Thanks for sharing. Completely agree that sometimes the aggressive crabs can keep the pot from filling up. I crab in a shallow tidally influenced bay, which has a small window of time for an optimal catch. I pull my pots every 15 minutes and usually get my limit of 12 in 1.5-2 hours. Sending good crabbing luck from Oregon!

    I have used canned tuna in oil for bait. It works.

      Absolutely. And fishy catfood as well. But I find the mackerel is less expensive. I also take these larger cans of mackerel and split them into 2 old tuna cans then partially freeze them so the juice lasts longer. One of those regular-size tuna cans of mackerel (or tuna) is plenty for a short soak if you're in a decent spot.

    With all the bait floating out of the can…and out of the trap, it seems that there’s a lot of food laying in the sand, ….outside of the trap. Seems like keeping the bait in the trap might result in more crabs IN the trap, instead of filling up on bait down current 5-10 ft.

      Yep, going to look at that this upcoming season by making sure I have a camera facing downstream. I used to do a lot of chumming and chunking for fish like tuna. You knew you were giving away free food, but the concept was to attract and catch the biggest and boldest. So we'll see. Theory is that smaller crabs will be downcurrent not wanting to compete with bigger ones in the trap. More crabs feeding anywhere likely attracts more crabs... so hopefully the bigger legal-size boys are top of the pecking order and get closest to the source. Its not about total crabs in the trap, but legal size (at least for dinner, not just to watch behaviors).
      But that's just a theory I need to test... I could be wrong.
      But definitely agree that ideally it'd just be scent and teaser pieces leaving the cage! That's where I'm going to test freezing bait and mesh sizes for the bait cage.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Is the can thinkenewss lower than standar human cans? Or are the crabs just powerful to destroy the cans?

    • @BobsUnderwaterCrabHouse-so2wo
      @BobsUnderwaterCrabHouse-so2wo  5 месяцев назад +1

      The can is already opened at the top before going down so the smell of the fish inside attracts the crabs.
