Hotel Crabifornia. Gonna use that! In reality, they take the hotel elevator up to the surface and then get released because they're too small or they're females.
Haha, I had same reaction as I watched the footage the first time i put a camera in there! So I figured I'd put it on youtube in case there were others out there with the same unknown fascination. I'm thinking we were all the kinds of kids who could stare at fish tanks for a long time. Close to Baltimore! I grew up staring at fish tanks in Philly.
Yep. It's been interesting having a career that has me around water and seeing folks' reaction all over the world to my pronunciation of it. "You want us to follow you into the what, the 'wooder'?"
Good idea! I've been thinking along those lines but trying to keep with my goal of no otter-attracting drips in the boat. So that idea but keeping the holes all on the upper part of the can ends. That could give it the flo-thru as long as I store them on their side ahead of time to let them settle... maybe. I'm also thinking of cracking them beforehand and splitting it into two cans. If I chop it up a bit during that process it should make it flow better. Then key will be how much to partially freeze them. Thanks!
I used to live on South Beach, just a bit north of Joe's Stone Crabs. I believe they're now only allowed to take one claw from stones. A study came out that showed very little survival when you took both. We don't do that out here with Dungeness. Or at least I don't know anyone who does. Yes other crabs can recover a missing leg after a molt, but it doesn't cone back as large. We used to see lots of baby armed blue claws that must have been in first molt after losing an arm to a predator.
Yes, releases will become much more regular pretty soon. It's surprising how tough it is to sit down and do one of these hobby videos when your day job is to make videos. Go figure. Thanks for your patience, and for the request!
"Keep my wife's name outa your mouth!" Great quote. The essence of a trapped man's words!

Hotel Crabifornia. Gonna use that!

@@BobsUnderwaterCrabHouse-so2wo it was the "wooter" that gave ya away 😯

What if you used a church-key to open 4 triangular holes on each end of the can? That would allow more scent out while retain the fish inside the can.

Fascinating! With Stone crabs in Florida they take the claws and let go and grow another. Do other crabs have that ability?
