    If you watch the video from that live performance, there was no oboe. Nick Rhodes was playing an organ( I believe) or it could be an ondes martenot. The backing vocalist for this track, Lamya, had a lovely voice, and she did release a solo album years later. She died at a young age, and we should all consider ourselves blessed that she we were able to listen to her sing. Can you believe that The Wedding Album and this MTV Unplugged performance are now 30 years old?

      Sad indeed, and wow 30 years ! I didn't realise that about Nick's keyboards, so I guess he was going acoustic too !

    • @sebzematik
      @sebzematik Год назад +3

      I think John Jones played an organ as well.

      @@izzyworld8068 yes it was acustic Nick too, it is amazing how this band is able to keep the audience up even with a completely unplugged session! Girls on Film and Too Much Information are absolutely two perfect examples!

    For the one and only Duran time , it was so the right call to have Lamya take centre stage!
    So suited for the song live
    And…….she has a great part on The Girls on Film Unplugged too……proper gives you chills and that build / climb it reaches is so good……as good as any build / climb on a Tech / house / acid tune…. Ok there’s no drop but still the climb is epic 😊

    Note: during Lamya's vocal solo, the strings do a style that was reminiscent of the way the strings were played in Soul II Soul's music, who were popular around this time.

    Brings tears down every time I listened to her singing this and watching her getting down on her knees, what a great voice and performer. She was soo young too when touring with DD. Taken too soon, bless her soul. They way they rearrange the song for this show is phenomenal too.

    • @invisible2621
      @invisible2621 Год назад +1

      Yes she was very young when she joined DD for the 93 tour, I think she was only 20, and she already worked with Nile Rogers… If I’m not wrong she dated with Nile but this was before Duran Duran.

    Hey Matt!
    I know you tend to just listen instead of watch- but I have some stuff for you to consider:
    If you like Duran live in a cozy setting I suggest you watch this:
    ruclips.net/video/3nE38Wan1Pw/видео.html
    --Duran Duran Songbook Special part one and
    ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=duran+duran+songbook+part+2+
    --Duran Duran Songbook Special part two
    with Will Hodgkinson.
    What can I say- as a huge Duranie since '81 and still going strong- I love this 2 part series- I have watched it numerous times and it's fantastic.
    Personal talk time with the band, they tell the stories behind the songs and their journey (they used to rehearse at the Rum Runner club in a room adjacent to Dexies Midnight Runners and UB40!), combined with fabulous live performances of the songs they talk about- from Planet Earth and Late Bar from way back in the beginning, all the way through to The Valley on Red Carpet Massacre.
    I stumbled across these one night just being nostalgic and searching Duran videos and I was so pleased and blown away!
    Also- this wonderful Duran take on a song by Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel:
    Make Me Smile (Come up and see me)
    This is the only version I have ever found of Duran doing this song- Hammersmith Odeon back in '82...I don't think they ever did it in the studio-
    It is so good!
    ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=duran+duran+make+me+smile+live
    And to you- Cheers!

    Wow... I've hever heard this live performance version of Come Undone, it's absolutely amazing and now it's my favourite version of this song
    By the way, almost finished watching your entire Duran Duran playlist. I like to open Picture-in-Picture window and watch your videos while I do something on my PC. It's really helped me appreciate some of their stuff from 90s-2000s
    Are you still planning on doing more reactions to Oakland Colesium 84's live performance?

    • @mattsnider2667
      @mattsnider2667  Год назад +1

      Hey there! Cheers, that's awesome! I've been binging on Duran for like 7 or 8 months now, so it's great to know those videos are still finding people.
      And yes, I plan on reacting to more of the show from Oakland, as well as more of the Mountainview show (and more of the Unplugged show, as well as one or two more from the show in Rio). Will try to do a song from the Oakland show in the next day or two. Cheers!
