    Glad to see you got a capture card! Good show of using it, hope you like that approach. My wife's old desktop was a HP and it also is a ATX form factor case with ATX power supply and connectors on the MB. I'm hanging on to it to maybe upgrade the power supply and MB and have a modern system in an older prebuilt case. Some day that is, I'm up to my eyeballs in mini PCs and want MORE! Long live chair desk!

    Jealous of that 1080 Ti! It's my (low end???) dream card atm. Specifically a FTW3 version with the fancy nameplate.
    Love the work you're doing! It fascinated and depresses me how much potential these old office motherboards have. Such power and capability, destroyed by company utilization of proprietary connectors, connected devices, and even anchor points. It's very surprising to see a more modern model with a 24-pin power connector. I'm guessing this one has odd anchor points for tge motherboard though, making a case swap impossible without a sort of motherboard riser - if that's a thing.
    Kind of surprised too that no 3rd party seller has come up with 3D printed anchor converters. But, then again... You raise the board itself and that makes installing PCIe devices impossible, and makes the IO ports not fit properly in the IO shield... WHYYYY!! I know why. I just don't like it lol.
    Looking forward to more of this tinkering and comedy :D
    And if you ever feel up to it, there are quite a few ultra budget motherboard combos out there that might be worth reviewing. The Q87, B85, and H110. Along with budget or rare Intel motherboards like the DH77 and the DX87SR / SI (if I remember correctly). Really cool southbridge heatsink on that one, but driver support is subpar. Or so I've heard.
    The Asus H81, B85, and H110 motherboards have 4-pin CPU power connectors, for anyone stuck with a crappy old PSU that only has 4-pin and doesn't want to upgrade lol.

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  Год назад +1

      Definitely, I am really liking the 1080ti. It is still on the higher end of "budget" cards, but relatively speaking the price for a used one is not bad compared to other (newer) cards, and also what it is capable of. I am with you on all the proprietary stuff, it is really disappointing sometimes. I don't know about a case swap for this board specifically, but it seems like most pre-built HP and Dell motherboards can't be case swapped without customization. The holes for the screws never line up and the solutions for that problem always seem overly complex. To be honest I haven't looked into it that much though, so it is hard to say. Appreciate the recommendations for the boards you mentioned, I am always looking for budget hardware, so I'll keep an eye out. And I'm glad you are liking the videos, thank you for watching!

    There is nothing wrong with the frame rate, it can go beyond what your monitor can output. That's not a bug. If you turn V-Sync on it will cap it at whatever the monitor can do but for benchmarking you don't want to do so you can see the full potential.

    A wall-mounted pegboard setup would work great for freeing those components from the case for testing. Also, proprietary connectors are prime candidates for having their connectors removed and placed into standard connectors using the appropriate pin out diagrams. I did that a few times for fun. It's good to see someone using some older stuff instead of just going for the easiest method. Subbed!

    • @LowcastleTech

    You should check out the a380, it includes some games so it basically costs 20$. It is perfect for av1 encoding so you can screen record without load on the gaming GPU. It performs like a 1060

    • @wagnonforcolorado
      @wagnonforcolorado Год назад

      Sadly, the 7th Gen intel systems don't support Resizable Bar...and the ARC series really needs ReBar to work well. On a newer machine, the A380 would make a good GPU choice. I think I saw one on sale the other day for only $100...

    • @LowcastleTech
      @LowcastleTech  Год назад +1

      I've never tried it with that model specifically, but I know several of the older models were like that. I think it was an 800 G2 where I've seen that done. The mini typically ran the "t" variation of the CPU, but could run the standard desktop processor with a more powerful brick. If you have trouble finding definitive information you might be able to scroll through eBay listings and see if there are any there that are listed as having the full, standard CPU. That would likely be a good indication that it works for that model as well.
