I admire this guy so much! Yes I’m biased, he’s a dear friend, but his commitment to music history, and spreading knowledge, this dude is an inspiration.
Really enjoyed the video, keep up the good work. You should do seperate videos for the two main 2 line-ups, Dave Barbe, Mathew Ashman and Andy Warren (Dirk era), also Marco Pirroni, Chris Merrick Hughes, Kevin Mooney and Terry Lee Miall (Kings era). Looking forward to an Adam solo video :)
Great video on an under-appreciated artist & band! I'm pretty new to your channel and I like what I've seen so far. It looks like you have already covered tons of great music, looking forward to watching more - liked & subscribed.
Not a lot of people know this but the name,in true punk fashion, called Adamant came off the urinal of a toilet.Obviously when Adam became a TV star he would answer the often repeated question of the name by saying he was impressed by a certain group called the Beatles. But most know the real story........or do they.?Amazing performer and entertainer.
Big Adam & the Ants fan since I was pretty young, 10-11. It was my first gateway in new wave and punk. Even though I got more into hardcore and metal, I’ve never fallen out of love with them, especially Kings of the Wild Frontier. Since you asked I’d love to see a part 2 to this about Adam’s solo career. Keep up your great work. Thank you!
I remember an interview with Adam Ant, he talked about Stand and Deliver and how he had to have two drummers and about a stalker woman that broke into his home and he had a hard time getting rid of her. It's all in the past but was an interesting story.
Surprised to hear they didn’t tour here in the U.S. They were MASSIVE when I was 13 in '82! I really sympathize with his mental health issues, though it sure is a shame. He’s a fantastic performer! Never realized the tremendous influence they had with those infectious tribal rhythms. I’m guessing that has something to do with my favorite CURE album: “Pornography”. Fascinating scene, the "Post-Punks". Bow wow wow was cool too! Though that WAS a “Dirk” move, stealing his band. LOTS OF ANTS! 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜Lol. Great little doc, bro. LOVE the “Art student becomes Rockstar” backstories! 🤘🤘
I was hugely into Adam and the Ants back then, so I really watched to see what a younger American person would make of it. I always thought Bazooka Joe was named after the bubble gum and that Adam named himself after the British TV programme called Adam Adamant Lives. It might be of interest to know that for a short while Jon Moss was the drummer before he joined Culture Club. I still have all the singles and albums from the 80s as well as the Bow Wow Wow releases.
Right off the bat you're telling me things about his life I didn't know, so thanks, I had every album from Dirk Wears White Sox until the very end and I still know all the words to all the songs. My favorite thing about the Ants is the two drummers, I love everything about the music, some of the lyrics are cringe inducing but I totally forgive him. Adam could hella dance, not sure if he could actually sing at the same time but he could at leadt lip sync perfectly. I saw a video of him lube a long time ago that really looked like he was actually singing and danxing his ass off at the same time, I wanna find it again. My only fond memory outside of listeninh alone in my room was when I went to a Baptist and Unirarian church lock-in at the YMCA in Tennessee in 1982 and I was so surprised and happy there were a few girls listening to them, I didn't know anyone else who liked them so I went over and had a good time hanging out with them. That lock-in was the most fun thing posdible in a suburb in Tennessee, if you never went to one, there were a couple hundred random kids locked in the Y all night with some older teens supervising just to make sure we were safe. We had the run of the place and could play on all of the equipment including gymnastics and a swimming pool. We could be as loud as we wanted and nothng bad happened, it was like a dream, I highly reccommend church lock-ins for nice, decent, well behaved children.
"Atom Ant" was a cartoon "super hero ant" from the mid 60s, btw. Pretty sure it's an American cartoon (Hanna Barbara), but that's likely the real source of that name.
Saw him live a few years back. A fine gig .... until he came back on after the main set with a "kilt" made out of the English flag (this was in Dundee). A few of the front row made silly comments etc. He shouted "Do not boo ME!!" , they then proceeded to end the show with a version of No Fun. Sigh. A great night out.
I didn’t particularly like their music, but they were interesting because they stood out and had a trumpet played unapologetically brash. I went as Adam Ant for Halloween in 1982. I think the absurdity of their presentation drew me in. I remember watching the videos and wishing that their music was better.
I was 3 years old that’s why still couldn’t go still to young loved from a far ‘ mr Adam was great dude I get it ‘ I spend weeks not seeing anyone part from food shopping walking the dog 🐶 shut down in winter hate the cold ‘ get Netflix sorted never leave house till summer time. So long as u stay bizzy indoors.🤟🏼🤟🏼😜💋🇬🇧
I bought the Wild Frontier album and was disappointed, the same goes for Bow Wow Wow. I may have bought the two albums together. Siouxie & The Banshees history would be a decent video
I’ve been a huge fan since first hearing about him in ‘82 seen him many times here in. Chicago. His music never disappoints
12:35 The record company was called Do-It , not Do It Yourself. Dirk Wears White Sox was a great album and still sounds great today .

Thanks buddy
Thank you for profiling Adam❤️Ask anyone ❤seriously I’m the biggest fan 😊
Thanks for watching!

I remember going to school disco's with white and red lines all over our faces. Everyone wanted to be Adam Ant!
That's awesome - I'm sure there are some not at all embarrassing pictures out there of that haha
Great video on an under-appreciated artist & band!

Excellent work. I saw them in Adelaide, Australia in 81/82 and they were fantastic.

Happy 70th birthday tomorrow! Adam..

I just know the name but never knew the history. Thanks I love music 🎶 history.
Then you're in the right place! Thanks!

My favourite Adam Ant trivia is that Prince Charming got a plagiarism claim, and it was settled amicably with the other artist - Rolf Harris.

Interesting.
Maybe mention that Nine Inch nails covered You're So Physical if you do a part two?
I did not know that was a cover!
Wow. Thanks.
👍

For sure - they've been on the list. I like some songs on Kings, but I get it not being for everyone.
Y'all know the word adamant exists, right? Wouldn't get Andy Clockwise, I reckon.
