- This latest "Street Process" is a POV video from Ho Chi Minh City, in early February 2024. I shot the Leica M-A with Kentmere 400, and the Olympus XZ-1 for some colour photos. Follow along in this first episode in a series of upcoming street videos from my recent travels.
Kentmere 400 developed in Fujifilm Super-Prodol developer, scanned at home using the equipment and software listed below.

Amazing video!! Loved watching this and seeing you in action ☺️ can’t wait for more videos from the trip!
Thank you my love
Love the photos, especially the candid ones. Can tell you had a great time.
Thank you!
Love this so much! Can’t wait for the Hanoi video! I’ll be going there in a few months.
Great to hear! I'm working on that video now, need to wait for some colour film development though 😁
Loving those interactions you captured. Metering skills second to none with the M-A.
Thanks! 😁
it's a great city to capture subjects, but I was also scared for my life to get hit by a motorcycle LOL
Haha yeah! Lucky it was (relatively) quiet on the roads that day. I was there again about a week later and it was pretty crazy
You've taken this lens back to where it came from :D. I bought it in Saigon before selling it to you
Haha that's great! Still going strong
It was fun to watch, Hashem. It's a hard place to isolate a moment or subject clearly, hey, due to the amount going on and that can be seen in each environment. It's interesting to see the similarity in subjects from when I first explored there too, and then also how common those elements feel now that I've been there for a long time too. I often look back at earlier photos and you can see and feel the fresh eyes that were used at that time, it's nostalgic because I wouldn't make those same photos now, as I'd be trying to find something that stood out like before. I guess that's the interesting thing about shooting the same thing or place over a long period of time too. You always find something new to capture. I look forward to checking out the next one 😊👍
Call me crazy Mr. H. but from about 3:24 onward the shots seemed wow contrasty to the point that the darker areas are just black, black.....
Are you talking about the colour shots? I tend to expose for the highlights with digital (especially with that old camera)
Great shots, can’t wait to see more from the trip! Candids for me - I feel like when there is eye contact the fourth wall is broken or something like that. I find when the photographer is spotted the photo stops becoming about a scene and more about how the person in the picture reacts to having their photo taken…if that makes sense.
Totally! Sometimes that works in the favour of the shot, but 90% of the time I prefer no eye contact.
Great video. I was just in Saigon and Hanoi recently as well. I think you'll enjoy Hanoi more for street photography. Can't wait to see the Hanoi results.
Thanks! Yeah we spent more time there overall, so I'll have more from Hanoi.
Great video dude! I really liked the shorter video length for these individual street sessions
Thanks man! I'm trying to keep them snappy. Next one from Hanoi will probably be a bit longer though, since it was multiple sessions
❤
Awesome photos ❤ welcome to Vietnam
Thank you!
Love the photos, especially the black and white ones. Definitely prefer candid shots. Looks like they don't have too much problem to see someone with a camera. In my country (Argentina) isn't that easy, they find it a bit intimitading
Woo! I’ll be back in Vietnam in a month! Saigon and hoi an 🇻🇳
I never considered BW film for travel as colour is such a part of culture, but these shots are beautiful
In the video you mention that you'd just had a good meal and that you were feeling pretty good. How do you choose a restaurant in a city like Ho Chi Minh, one where you feel comfortable eating their food?
I didn't spend long enough there to give a comprehensive idea... but we just looked at Google reviews, and the general vibe of the places. I remember having good Pho in Saigon.
@@pushingfilm , thank you for that information. I know you travel extensively and appear to be healthy. I had a friend who picked up a "parasite" - his words - in Bali, Indonesia when he was in the Peace Corps. My conversations with him have made me paranoid.
Amazing stuff dear Hashem:) such an informative and "giving" channel .xoxo
Hi, amazing photos, please is it possible to know how do you create that black contour around the photography 🙏
Thanks! This naturally comes up when scanning the film frame all the way to the border. I have some videos about scanning film that go over it 🙂
@@pushingfilm Thank you so much for the reply!
nice! greetings from vienna!!🙂
Thank you! 😁
Really nice shots, that Olympus has some really nice colors
Hey Hasham! Beautiful shots! You are so incredibly fast with focusing. Do you have any more tipps than "setting" the camera to rangefocus? And do you usually stand still and look through the viewfinder when you take a shoot? I often have issues with blurry Pictures, when moving. Also on 1/500s. I couldn't figure out yet if It's missed focus or the movement.
Thanks! The best tip I can give is to keep shooting/practising (and if you have a digital to practice with, this can speed things up a lot...and help find holes or bad habits in your technique). While moving you increase the chance of blur, especially if the subject is moving too. I get blurry and misfocused shots too, and not everything on the roll is shown in the video. I do usually look through the viewfinder, although sometimes it's barely a glance. Another great strategy is to get proficient at estimating distance, and using the focusing scale on the lens. Keep at it!
Thank you Hasham! I use a Leica MP. I also had thoughts about using a digital camera to understand where the unfocused pictures come from. I'm shooting film for over a year now and it's devastating sometimes, how many rolls It takes to sort bad/wrong habits out. But I guess its the little price you pay when you love the process of film photography. And honestly, I get better from roll to roll. It just takes time. Thanks for your advice and feedback!
@@willinirschl Yeah, I'd love to try a digital Leica sometime... But I can tell you the vast majority of shots on my rolls aren't great, whether they're focused or not haha (and I think that's just the nature of street photography) Judging from your videos, you're doing fine. The most important thing imo is to enjoy the process!
awesome! please pay Hanoi a visit
We did! I have videos coming from there soon
wow, Ive never been this fast to a video upload. Looking forward to watching this now Hashem. Happy Easter and God bless you!
Thanks, hope you enjoy 🙂 Same to you!
I’m so happy you went there! District 4 is my favourite. I’m just on my way back home from being there this week and it was too hot and too packed. Tết would actually be the perfect time. The shot of the old guy bending over smiling with the kids was fantastic! 👍
Thanks man🙂Yeah I can imagine it would be 10x busier! Hope you had a good trip 👍
These are some great photos. I’m headed to Vietnam in June and am stressing about what gear to bring but this is helping me convince myself that all I need is my M4 and not any medium format. Awesome video!
Thank you! That'll serve you well!
Really enjoyed this one, some great captures, thanks
Thank! Glad you enjoyed it
what tools for pov video?
DJI Action 2, it's linked in the description :-)
Go pro kamera?
Excellent shots! Would be great to see some more and something on the Olympus too.
Thanks, more coming!
The B&W photos are next level!
Thank you!
great work bruv.
Thank you!

Dude nice video, but slightly underwhelmed by your shots, I think you seemed quite overwhelmed in this video, take your time to frame and compose, instead of trying to teach and film, just my two cents.
Hey, that's fair! I'm not fussed about it though since my main objective is to have fun, continue to shoot... and progression in output just comes naturally.
@@pushingfilm while I agree with your comment, you should be fussed as it's film and costs money, and if make videos trying to educate people on photography perhaps you should be taking your own photography seriously as well as enjoying it. But keep doing what you're doing
