Sugar Cane Rag is like Maple Leaf's cousin, dancing around the flower gardens with her pretty hair bow, if that makes any sense at all XD
One of the best performances of Sugar Cane, Mr. Edwards is surely a player! And very nice old-timey sheet music too, thank you for the video!

Haha, makes sense to me! Maple Leaf's care free cousin! 😆
He most certainly is as well, you ought to hear some of the "twists" he adds in certain works he plays. 😋 Nothing can beat that old-timey sheet music either as they say, you are all the welcome Aiden!

Joplin would, from time to time, return to the first strain of MLR for inspiration regarding future compositions (The Cascades, The Sycamore, Gladiolus, etc.) but go in other directions for the remaining themes in his rags, waltzes, and so forth.
But with Sugar Cane Rag, there may have been several motivations to compose it the way he did, among them: (1) it came out on the 10th anniversary of MLR’s original publishing, and (2) Scott probably also wanted to prove [especially with his falling out with John Stark notated above] that he could not only continue to be vital as the “King of Ragtime Writers”, but he could return to his greatest achievement in sheet music and better himself in the process.
Oh, and (3) money. No explanation needed here if you know Joplin’s life and career well enough.

One of a few if not the only piece Joplin added his own metronome marking.

Very few in number. It's a suprise alone we even have copies of his work that even exists to this day to look back on. Perhaps some of his own marked metronome markings could help dispute his "Tempo Controversy." 😆

Same here, there's just someting really special about it. 😆😆 And no I do not (unfortunately) :]
Wish I could play THIS good. 😋 Also, I have Frog Legs Rag available through my James Scott Complete Works video but not yet as a single. Scott is actually the one I have planned next after I finish posting Joplin. 😌
And thank you, why thank you. Can't believe it but here I am! 🤭🥳🎉

Other people find bandmates. Then some start playing like there was a band.
