Wow, I always figured they were slightly smaller than a medium sized dog.... I've seen a St Bernard dog in person! He jumped on me and I would've fell over if I wasn't backed up against a wall! Man, that dog thought he was a lap dog lol :)

Not that this will change how ridiculous a lot of sizes are, but sometimes it's important to recognize what measurement is probably being listed. For instance, winged Pokémon sometimes have a measurement that lists their wingspan, like how a bald eagle in real life often has a wingspan of about 6 feet (1.82 m), even though its body from head to toe is is about 3 feet (about 91 cm). Or for spherical Pokémon, it never really says if it's measuring the diameter or the circumference. I would assume it's the diameter, but still. And with Gastly, if the Pokédex is measuring its cloud as part of Gastly's body, then that would mean that its... head(?) isn't so monstrously huge. Still a lot of weird stuff in the Pokédex, though.
+TheNitr01 Same here. Imagine that running through a city. Everyone would shit their pants. Also, I would never want to run into a Golbat either. What kind of bat reaches over 5 feet?
plus its a bee. it wouldn't be one beedrill. it would be hundreds. if a weedle stung you you wouldn't have to worry about the poison. the hole it left would be large enough to be fatal.
Mewtwo is 6'7 which I'm not too surprised at. But given that Ash's Charizard, who is smaller than the average Charizard, is BIGGER than Mewtwo in the movie. Like how the fuck does that make sense. What the hell.
I've always thought that Ash's Charizard was bigger that average, around 6'11 based on its size relative to other pokemon, but looks small compared to other Charizard shown in the show, well those Charizard are just huge.
Sportsgamer92 There is a height chart of all Pokemon on Bulbapedia, and you would not believe what Pokemon are the same height, and which ones have ridiculous height differences.

groovygower Maybe it was like that: They knew that people who use metric units will be too lazy to convert it to metric, but americans wont be able to do opposite. :P
Americans bothering to convert metrics to imperial? Bahaha - maybe in a different universe! FWIW, here in the UK we tend to know both but have shifted to primarily using metrics in the past decade (but we can still convert to imperial), although we've ditched Fahrenheit as we don't live in the Dark Ages any more.
You know what I find most annoying with the sizes? THEY NEVER TRANSLATE THEM INTO METRIC IN THE ENGLISH GAMES RELEASED IN NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES D: The games are never translated into "minor" languages, like my swedish for example, so they never even bother to translate the sizes. Thats why I really wish the image-system used in the older games will return one day.
this video is very hard to relate to, seeing as you only use feet and inches and my brain has no concept of these lengths.. like.. I can look em up, but I dunno when I seeea number
Well he is American, so he'd use our method of measurement...People in Europe would most likely use meters instead, although including both is the best way to go
Golbat is 1.6m (5’3”) and I feel extremely uncomfortable with that Like imagine being 10 years old and you’re walking through a dark cave and this giaNT GREAT FLYING THING JUST STARTS ATTACKING YOU
That's a lot of freaking tiny Charizards. They are also rare and don't reproduce much so over 7/8s of the population of them would be fully grown. I very much doubt this is the case.
Noctowl was part of my Elite 4 line up in Gen 2, and I always pictured him being the size of.... y'know, an owl? Something that could perch on my shoulder or arm. Turns out that sucker is 5 feet tall. My Nowctowl is as tall as I am! No WONDER I can use him to fly across Johto!
Noctowl is an owl, obviously. Owls can get fairly large as birds but you would imagine it'd still be relatively small. At 5'3", Noctowl is the same height as me. Can't complain. It's a big floofy owl and now I know it's at a nice huggable size.
I wish I would know how big they are, because I'm from Europe, so I don't know feet and inches. I mean, metres are way better! There's a real system! :(
I think the height/weight in the Pokedex is for domestic pokemon bred and raised for the purpose of Pokemon batting, not wild pokemon. In the anime all the Charizard in the Charizard valley were wild Charizard, which is why they were all so much bigger and stronger than Ash's Charizard, who was always intended to go to a trainer
Hey JWittz, maybe due to the environment that the Charizard is raised from Charmander to adulthood(Charizard) It varies it's size, similar to things in real life. I'm estimating that the Pokedex goes off of "Average" Sizes instead of Sizes developed by environment, breeding, power, ect., ect. If we look at how Ash's Charizard was a runt compared to all of the ones in the Charific Valley, but then grew LARGER THAN CHARLA after awhile in the Charific Valley, we can say that environment and a Pokemon's diet truly determines size and weight of the Pokemon. As you mentioned, the anime had varying sizes of Pokemon, however there was never any given reason for this, ever notice that some people aren't baffled at sizes of slightly to moderately larger Pokemon? This leads me to believe that this is the case.
I like how Legends Arceus, as well as Scarlet, and Violet solve this issue by giving all pokemon a variation in size. Clarifying that the official size is just the average.
Who wants to ride a Charizard when you can soar through the sky on the back of a Wailord?
+pikmin937 He wouldn't float due to your weight... Actually you would split it in half...
+Rafa Márquez a majority of it's weight is probably collagen in it's skin, so it' doesn't pop.
Raf Mar *Lol too bad, Wailord's pokedex entry says it can float because it has lots of oxygen in it's body.*

Espeon and Umbreon, which I thought to be around the size of a large cat, are closer to the size of a St Bernard dog.... Jesus
Wait... how small is Eevee then?
A very large cat, like a cougar or a leopard.

SMALLER THEN WAILORD WHAT THE HECK
Wailord was designed to be the biggest pokemon but okay...
Dusknoir: 7' 03"
Donphan: 3' 07" 264.6 lbs
Diancie: 2' 04" 19.4 lbs
Diglett: 0'08
Cryogonal: 3' 07" 326.3 lbs
WHY?
I LOLed so painfully much at the Wailord bit.
So did I, funny how he showed a picture of the humpback whale when talking about a blue whale. :)
Why does nobody ever realize that when it's put as a water/flying type... For that one Nintendo actually did the math go figure.
uh... wailord is a pure water type
Oh, sorry, my bad, don't normally mess up typings... your right though and looking at it it only learns one flying move... now I feel silly...
When you have a pet charizard.
You as kid: You ride it
You as adult: It rides you
Wait... on the cards, it says that Pikachu is 4 foot something. BUT! He can fit on Ash's shoulder, when he is almost as tall as Ash himself. You're right! TOTAL NONSENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha lol so true
Christopher L. Custer wait you watched this video?
the pokedex says that pikachu is 2 feet tall. it's true i looked it up.
I'm gonna check ORAS to see if they fixed this nonsense
It was changed to 1'4"
Wailord is still the same though!
He's only 1'0.4
WAILORD, USE FLY!!!
.... Arbok is 11'06''.... I am now scared of my in-game Arbok
Arbok:Why you no come near me master? ;(
Britain Nazar It's not that scary. Some snakes can be up to 20 feet long, or about half the length of Arbok.
Nicholas Kaczmarek aren't real snakes just as scary?
Britain Nazar WHAT! ARBOK? i thought the guy is 3 cm bigger than ekans
Britain Nazar I LOVE my Arbok, Gimme a hug, not quite so tight now..... ok... that's starting to hurt.... getting.... sleepy......
I can only imagine a ton of wailords flying in the sky
A tonne of warlords is almost exactly 4.
Here's something that makes no sense:
Gengar: 4'11" tall
Mega Gengar: 4'07" tall....
.....eh?
To be fair, Mega Gengar wouldn't necessarily have to be taller, especially if Gengar stands up on two legs while Mega Gengar is kind of on three legs
Always hated that sizes in pokemon aint in metric units
THIS. Especially in the European copies, which are meant to be regionalised.
groovygower Maybe it was like that: They knew that people who use metric units will be too lazy to convert it to metric, but americans wont be able to do opposite. :P
Americans bothering to convert metrics to imperial? Bahaha - maybe in a different universe!
FWIW, here in the UK we tend to know both but have shifted to primarily using metrics in the past decade (but we can still convert to imperial), although we've ditched Fahrenheit as we don't live in the Dark Ages any more.
groovygower
if i understood everything properly then - well said man! :D
Cheers! : D
Dat moment when you find out your dunsparce
is bigger than your lucario
Dunsparce: 4'11" Lucario: 3'11". Because reasons.
Kyogre is somehow 3 feet taller than Groudon, and Primal Kyogre is over 32 feet long. Before it was only 14 feet, so it more than doubled in length.
this video is very hard to relate to, seeing as you only use feet and inches and my brain has no concept of these lengths.. like.. I can look em up, but I dunno when I seeea number
Well he is American, so he'd use our method of measurement...People in Europe would most likely use meters instead, although including both is the best way to go
+LeonDelMansion96 Yea. America is the only country that doesn't use the metric system.
+The Baby Kangaskhan Gaming What about Myanmar (Burma)
?
+The Baby Kangaskhan Gaming There are 3-4 countries without metric system... But USA is the only Rich country without it
Golbat is 1.6m (5’3”) and I feel extremely uncomfortable with that
Like imagine being 10 years old and you’re walking through a dark cave and this giaNT GREAT FLYING THING JUST STARTS ATTACKING YOU
Wait, so your trying to tell me that charizard, a freaking dragon, is shorter than me? A 13 year old?
+Joshua Arias Yup
+Joshua Arias hes not a dragon gawd
Asher Green what is he then?
Joshua Arias
fire-flying with the appearance of a dragon
+Shiny Umbreon Network Oh, I know that he's not a dragon-type, but I'm saying if he's not a dragon, what is he?
Larvesta: 3’07” and 63.5lbs.
What the actual fuck. We're talking about a bug that most small children would be incapable of lifting.
Wait... Drantini is 5'11???? THAT'S MORE THAN ME!!!! I'm like.. 4'10 or something... I THOUGHT IT'D BE LIKE, 2 FEET OR SOMETHING! HOLY SHIT
I'm 5'7
>3>
Dammit
I always figured the pokedex sizes and the anime were guidelines for either end of the spectrum
Samurott is my favorite Pokemon.
Me: Should be around 5' tall, right?
Pokedex: Samurott: 4'11
Me: 5'4 1/2 😨
Me: *flips nearest table*
What if the sizes and weights for the Pokémon are just the averages?
That's a lot of freaking tiny Charizards. They are also rare and don't reproduce much so over 7/8s of the population of them would be fully grown. I very much doubt this is the case.
Pokemon making no sense since gen 1..
I'm a short guy (I'm 5'4'' and 145 lbs), so...
**hops on his Charizard's back and flies away lol**
According to a BMI calculator, Sableye is obese. Lol :)
I get the impression that Wailord is designed like a submarine, but functions more like a zeppelin LOL
8-)
Bidoof: 1'8" and 44.1 lbs. Reasonable.
Bulbasaur: 2'4" (reasonable) and 15.2 LBS?!?!?!?
WHAT? 15.2?!?!?!? REALLY?!?!?!?
I've heard a few of these before, but wailord being a blimp and glalie + gastly being the size of that huge beach ball blew my mind haha
Excuse me? Blastoise is 5' 03'' and 188.5 lbs. Lighter and shorter than JWittz. Really?
Wut? LOL
OMG
Ninetales. I expected it to be about as big as a person but no. It's only 3'07". -.-
Apparently, a Lairon is as tall as a Magikarp and an Arbok is as long as...Groudon.
"Referencing Pokemon to real life animals."
Shows a picture of a dragon....
And we know know that Batman could bench a Wailord.
Of course I can. You doubting me?
Noctowl was part of my Elite 4 line up in Gen 2, and I always pictured him being the size of.... y'know, an owl? Something that could perch on my shoulder or arm. Turns out that sucker is 5 feet tall. My Nowctowl is as tall as I am! No WONDER I can use him to fly across Johto!
Well, Noctowl always looked pretty big to me, but certainly not that large. I would have guessed like 3".
If I were to ride charizard.............I would have 7 inches of room........😐
***** what??
+Ricardo Martinez it's a sex joke
Bonnie the bunny64
oH.
3:55 that's obvious.
You go from an eel, to a dragon. It shrinks, yet expands!
1 foot = .3048 meters you can do the rest of the math
LeapingFrogs5 Yes, I know, I can calculate it, but I can't imagine that. You can estimate it very fast, but I can't. :/
I know that feel bro.
I'm from Europe and I think feet and inches are better than metres. Kilograms are way better than pounds though
O Bain seriously? why
And there you have it. Dont. Read. The. Pokedex.
It’s been 6 years and no one has honestly tried to initiate a debate or conversation. I’d love to discuss this further...
I always assumed the game's height and weight was an average.
Best name.
Vileplume is the same size as Lucario!
3'11
Huh. I really thought Vileplume were much bigger than that
@@julianvenegas642 Yeah. In Hey You Pikachu, Vileplume is a giant.
I like how Legends Arceus, as well as Scarlet, and Violet solve this issue by giving all pokemon a variation in size. Clarifying that the official size is just the average.
