I'm in my early forties, and while I generally agree with most reviews this is one exception. This is NOT a foundation, it's a moisturizing tint. It's not meant to be built upon. It is a product for those that wish to even out their skin tone, and add a bit more moisture. Attempting to make this product into something it is not intended to be creates the problem, not the product itself. It's very reminiscent of my beloved Le Mer, but about $80-$90 less expensive. If I'm running errand I'll apply this with a buffing brush, set with powder, a bit of blush, and mascara, and I'm out the door. I have no issues with creasing, transfer, or caking. If I want a foundation, I use my CHANEL PERFECTION LUMIÈRE VELVET, or my two new holy grails, the L'Oréal Total Coverage or the Pro-Glow. Brilliant foundations at a drugstore price. I highly recommend all of the above.

This tinted moisturizer is my holy grail and has been for years, it’s great for dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles. It’s good for evening out your skin tone and just looks beautiful imo.

It just goes to show how different we all are. I love this foundation on my dry mature skin.

I have dry skin (used to be super oily), and I tried this hydrating tint on a whim. I was shocked at how pretty my skin looked. The coverage (on me) is light to medium, but my skin looks flawless. It evens out some redness, and my skin looks soft and supple. This is the best I've tried, and I've tried Clinique, Lancome, IT, Revlon, & NYX. I don't want a heavy foundation, and this is absolutely perfect for me. I'm sorry you had different results but that's likely because you have oily skin. I hope Neutrogena never discontinues this product. It's very affordable and provides terrific results for my dry skin.

I have VERY dry, peeling skin from Differin use, and I love this foundation. I find it to be hydrating and buildable. Its one of my three favorite foundations along with the It CC, and Clinique Beyond Perfecting.

I love this foundation for my dry winter skin. It is more of a tinted moisturizer rather than a foundation. It doesn't last in the heat of summer and I would guess it is awful on oily skin too. It is fabulous on very dry skin with some concealer under my eyes for coverage.

I have normal to dry skin. While it felt super on my face after the initial application, by noon, it looked like a hot mess, and that was with primer and setting powder. A no go for me. Thanks Angie for doing such great work!! Happy Mothers Day!

I’m 60 and I love this tint with my primer underneath. Put a little mineral powder over it and it looks flawless. Leaves a soft look on my skin and I don’t have many wrinkles. But with the little I do have this tint never settles or cakes in on the lines. Again my skin is dry not sure if that’s why, but it works for me and gives me the right amount of coverage I need for everyday. If I have a special event like a wedding or a large event then I use my other foundation for a fuller coverage.

I really like this tint and it does not dry out my skin. I like that it does not settle in my fine lines. Great tint and I highly recommend it. I will be 51 next month and I have normal skin. I don't have any issues with patchiness.

    Hi Angie!
Well, it looks like I'm in the minority here, but I love it! Like you, 40 Nude was a perfect match. I apply with my beauty blender and it works great! My skin is dry and at age 56, I have a hard time finding a foundation that won't settle into my wrinkles. I had almost given up when I found this. I prefer light coverage as I have freckles and medium to full coverage looks ridiculous when I have freckles everywhere else. I do use a primer and a finishing powder. Thank you for your review and I can't tell you how much your channel has helped me. I hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day!

I really adore this foundation on my super dry 43 year old skin. I didn't like it the first time I used it because I didn't know how to apply it and I was expecting a foundation (despite the fact its a tint and says that 😅). Now that I know how to use it, I adore this.

I really want to thank you for these comprehensive videos. You have saved me untold amounts of money. I've been watching these videos since well before you had a grail foundation. I have the same skin issues you do, but more wrinkles. I know I am not alone when I say I appreciate it.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this honest and detailed review. I watched other beauty bloggers rave about this product and I almost tried it. I'm always leery of trying new foundations because I want something that looks natural, like skin and I can't stand when a product oxidizes. Thank you for showing us up close how this wears and how it looks in different lighting. This really was a helpful review.

  • @stephanieo6252

If you have very dry aging skin, it is fantastic! Looks more natural than most others. If you want heavy full coverage, go with something else. I think it how your using it. I absolutely love it.

Hi Angie:) I am 45 and have dry skin. This foundation looks nice, applies best with a brush but is not long wearing. For me it's a decent choice. I was also thinking I looked darker later in the day and never thought about it oxidizing until you mentioned it, so thanks for turning on my lightbulb!

I love this tint so much. 60 is an absolutely perfect match for my skin. I have normal to dry skin and find it hydrating with a lovely finish.
It's not a full coverage foundation, but it evens everything out nicely. It's really nice if you like a BB, natural, smoothing, natural coverage. I can see that trying to make it full coverage wouldn't work.

I prefer this tint to my clarins skin illusion even though I have to order from the US to the UK. I'm 53 with combo skin and lots of lines and pores and this is so kind and flattering for me.

Angie, how lucky I feel that you are such a trooper and try out all of these products for us goo, bad and the ugly! I have been toying with the idea of getting this foundation and I am so greatly to have happened across your video before placing my weekly Ulta order. I hope that doesn't sound too bad, I use many bath, body and beauty products from Ulta and as much as I try to plan ahead we are almost always in need of something by weeks end. In any case I do believe we share the same sort of skin type to some degree and I trust your testing and opinions as I know without a shadow of a doubt you put it all through vigorous testing. Thanks so much for all you do and take care Angie. I hope you have a wonderful Mothers Day with your girls and husband and a great week ahead. Peace and love xo

I have used this foundation and really like it.
I’ll tell you I have acne prone oily skin, BUT had a bad breakout last month, found your channel, started on half of your skincare routine (CeraV ) and my skin looks AMAZING.
Zero breakouts evened skintone, very hydrated, etc
I think, for me, the breakouts were due to me over cleansing due to breakouts (vicious circle)
So I bought the Neutrogena hydrating foundation and with the ELF sheer powder, it works on me for some strange reason.
I typically used to use bare minerals classic powder foundation or a oil free drug store foundation. Not sure why this is working, but I won’t question it 😁
As always, I really enjoy your videos and appreciate all the hard work you put into them.

Thanks, Angie, for another honest review. This one was a no go for me too. Though I could see someone with dry, youthful skin liking it. I would be interested in seeing reviews on the Boots No. 7 foundations. I've heard good things, but the reviewers have all been quite a bit younger than I am and I'm not sure how that will equate to mature skin with fine lines.

Your thoroughness is really appreciated! This is one of my top go-to foundations. I have pretty normal skin with mild rosacea. The ONLY tool I use to apply it is a Sephora brush (it looks like a paintbrush and is meant for contouring - lol) as everything else was a fail. It feels good on my skin and even lasts well on my nose which is an area that foundation likes to wear off.... hello Rudolph. So this is a winner as even the shade works well for me.

Thanks for the thorough review! I got this foundation a few weeks ago and it was quickly demoted to wear on quick morning dog walks or to the gym (not that I think it will last through a workout, more just to wear on the way there). I see it as more of a tinted moisturizer -- something to throw on to even out the skin tone or when you really don't need to be wearing makeup in the first place (but of course still do because you never leave the house without it!). I apply with fingers and do like the way it goes on.

I picked up the Australian Gold SS because of you. It would never have been on my radar if not for you! I haven't tried it yet except on my chest, but I remember this brand from back in the day when I was stupid enough to bake myself in the sun!
I myself like this foundation when I'm having good skin days, I use it with the IT cosmetics dual ended brush, but it is so sheer on me I have to use 2-3 coats, and it only lasts around 6 hrs. So, for quick short days, I will use it up, but won't repurchase.

I appreciate your Foundation reviews - so much information. My experience with this Foundation: I am 44, have normal to dry skin. I use moisturizer w/spf, primer (drugstore), and apply with a damp beauty blender. I also set with powder. It doesn't break up on me, but it does feel tacky w/o powder. I think I have to use more product than usual because it's sheer and because it is hard to get out of bottle (feel like a lot will go to waste). I will use the "entire" bottle but not sure I'll repurchase as I have other more affordable options at drugstore that perform as well or better. 😀

I like this, I'm 42 with oily skin. However, I only use this on my dry/flaky days due to Retin-A. I apply it very sheer and use RT buffing brush. I due use PC Resist mositurizer/spf 30 with no primer and set with IT bye-bye pores pressed powder all over face (used sparingly). Since I use this sheer, it stays put but I do have to blot my t-zone and touch up with IT powder after 4-5 hours. This really shouldn't be called foundation, it really is a "moisturizing tint", Neutrogena needs to market it better.

I'm glad I found a more recent video in the hope you read this message Angie because I don't know how else to contact you. I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU!
I have been following you for the last few months (going back through early videos) and I have learned so much about skincare in particular. I have totally changed my routine, ordered products from the USA (I'm from the UK) such as Cerave, Timeless (which is now available in the UK). I also found NIOD/The Ordinary/Hylamide because of you and these products have made an unbelievable difference to my skin - so much so that people are beginning to comment on the change.
My husband and I own a community pharmacy and I find I am advising some of our clients to find you on facebook. Your approach is honest, informative and understandable to those (like myself) whom had little or no knowledge about skincare products. So on behalf of all the 53 year old women in the UK - I THANK you and keep up the good work, it is very much appreciated. x

Oooooooh! Makeup tutorial on this one Angie, please. :) I also read the comment below about hair removal on the face. I have thick darker eyebrows and I get my eyebrows waxed about every three weeks. Since I mentioned to my eyebrow lady that I am using Retin A she will only wax under my brow and does "Gasp! Painful as all get out!" threading on the rest of the brow area, lip and chin. I did have some overly sensitive spots above my brow after a wax treatment that left some "burned" skin so I don't argue with her about the threading but OUCH! I think it may help if I do not use the Retin A for a couple of days before an eyebrow wax/threading. Praying......;)

Cathy Burger - there are a few youtubers who have face shaving videos - try uppiesbeads. I use the Braun face epilator which reduces vellus fluff enough for makeup to go on nicely. Don't wax if you use retin A. Some ladies do threading, but I'm more of a do-it-yourself person to save the $$. 💋

plucking hair out of your face is a bad idea. it causes inflammation in the skin tissue. a dermatologist that i follow recommends using one of those small facial shavers. i now do this and i love it. i use it all over my face to remove peach fuzz and those pesky dark hairs. it's great for exfoliating and makes your foundation go on like a dream. btw, i'm a cosmetologist and i have studied the hair, skin and nails extensively- believe me when i tell you, shaving your hair does NOT make it grow back any thicker or darker. if you don't believe me, look it up. there is evidence that supports this. i know it's hard to believe because it's something that our mothers told us when we were growing up, but it's just not true lol. the other good alternative is to get laser hair removal. good luck to you!

One more comment Angie - after reading about your 'holy grail' foundation (Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet) I decided to go and see it for myself at my 'nearest' large shopping mall (3 hour round trip!) - OMG was it so worth the drive, wasn't sure if the velvet would suit as I have quite dry skin but the assistant recommended it over the aqua as I have red thread veins and she said it provided better cover - she put on the primer (Le Blanc De Chanel) which instantly took down the red a notch and then we tried your shade first, the 30 - slightly too pale for me so tried the 40 beige - perfect!!
My skin felt incredibly soft - couldn't stop stroking it, spent hours in the overheated shopping centre, then the long drive home. Normally by that time I can't wait to just take off make -up as my skin just feels dry and uncomfortable but when I went upstairs to wash I looked in the mirror and was astounded at just how well this foundation looked by the evening. I ended up buying two bottles of the foundation and the lovely priming lotion. I spoke to the Chanel assistant about your youtube videos and she insisted on writing down your name. I was quite shocked to learn that nearly all of the make up counters had not heard of the NIOD/the Ordinary brand - they were even more surprised when asked about the active ingredients in their skincare products.
It seems they are given a minimal amount of training (which varies from person to person) on their own products and then that's it - I had a lovely time prattling on about the joys of vitamin C + E, Cerave, hyaluronic acid etc. By tomorrow you should have a band of new followers from Chanel and Elizabeth Arden!
So, once more you have saved me time and money with your recommendations. Now if only you could come to the UK and give me a personalised eye make up tutorial for my 'moving' eyelids (seriously, the skin is literally moving around the upper lid even with the softest brush) - that would be the icing on the cake although you may not appreciate our british climate! x

Overall I like this foundation. I use it with Makeup forever pink primer and blend with a brush. I have normal skin, no blemishes. I will say it isn't a 10 hour wear for sure. I bought this when it first came out and there was youtube craze. Thought this would be the answer to my dry/mature skin problems - no. It hates my mineral sunscreen. I'm sure this is fine if you have nothing else on your skin, but like you this did not work for me. Unfortunately, I have found that you are right about most things, Angie (I say unfortunate because often the good stuff is pricey - lol!)

Now THAT'S a video I wouldn't want to miss. Perhaps there ISN'T a dupe for one, which would be informative in and of itself. Or perhaps a drug store item would be your favorite anyway. I love this foundation as much as you love your Chanel. It is very similar to the La Mer foundation so if you like that one you will love this cause you will save about 90 bucks. I have normal skin with no oily T zone. This gives light to med coverage works great over my sunscreen (Mychelle mineral) and natural ivory is a perfect match to my skin tone (very fair). This is the only foundation I've found that won't show peeling skin from Retin A so I imagine it may work for dry skin as well. I would say try this foundation if you have dry to normal dehydrated skin and are happy with a lighter coverage.

I hope this works for you Tracy, for me its holy grail status and I don't have to buy La Mer, which is a great foundation but pricey. It does look quite shiny on Angie but on me it looks like natural skin and stays put throughout the day as well. I love Angie's videos but always make the edit for my thirsty skin so shiny on her means OK this might work for me.

    • @belladree
      @belladree 7 лет назад +5

Jen, it's never a disservice to share ones thoughts or experience in a positive way, why not do the same. I never said La Mer was a bad foundation, I said it was a great foundation and they performed similarly. If you are interested check out Briana Stanko's or Shadesofkassie's reviews (very informative).
Cost aside, the Neutrogena wins hands down (for me) over the La Mer here's why:
The La Mer has some ingredients that are deal breakers for me such as octinoxate a known Endocrine disrupt-or, is cumulative in nature and I choose to use only natural sunscreens.
I generally like botanicals in my ingredients, the down side is the longer the botanical ingredient list, the higher the chance of it containing an offending allergen, in this case seaweed, a no go for me as well as yeast which can be problematic and this product does not claim to be gluten free.
I don't do GMO so soy is a no go for me. I don't want alcohol or BHT on my skin, the reasons here should be obvious.
The La Mer claims to be anti-aging and the reason they give for this is the included sunscreen not any special botanical serum, this indicates to me the Miracle Broth included in this product is largely marketing hype, The Neutrogena does not contain sunscreen and added botanical s which is better for me because I prefer to use a non nano mineral based sunscreen and I get my botanicals in more organic skin care formulas.

LOVE YOUR REVIEWS! Wish I had seen this before I bought it.
I use this on a regular day- I can only get it to work with fingers for application- but it applies great over my Olay Regenerist SPF 30. I always use powder to set.
This does work for me because I have very dry skin. Regular foundation gets so flaky and dry patches are so visible. This definitely doesn't do that for me.
Can you review the new Chrissy Teigen Glow palette?? It is so pretty! You could find some great uses for it!!

thank you Angie for another great video and your honest input I never miss one of your videos I think you're just amazing and so beautiful and I'm so with you on the sunscreen ride LOL I always try to protect my skin first I wish I could get some of these more expensive Brands I just cannot afford it I am 38 years old and literally completely starting over from the ground up with everything closed makeup and I miss makeup so bad but it is so really hard trying to get back on your feet and struggling by yourself with two kids I do however got CeraVe am facial moisturizer with the sunscreen and then facial moisturizer p.m. and luckily enough to be able my mom bought me the Neutrogena Hydro Boost water gel with hyaluronic acid and I'm loving it and I also got differin gel so I'm very happy with that that's why I watch your reviews cuz even $14 for that Foundation to a lot of people don't sound like a lot to me it's the only thing I'd be able to get myself for a hole month or two and then it would have been a waste so I and so extremely appreciative that you take the time to share and make these videos I just want to say I really thank you

I wanted to like this one I'm trying very hard. It was one of the best color matches I found. Not so yellows on light skin. But I also find that applying it with a beauty blender essentially pulled it off. Doe foot is a bit of a pain. I'm going to a wedding outdoor reception in FL in June. I need a good foundation!

Mama123Crazy I wouldn't recommend the It CC cream for your wedding day. It has a beautiful, natural finish, but it lasts MAYBE two hours, tops. I've tried everything to extend the wear of it, but if you have even mildly oily skin, it won't last long at all. I've heard wonderful things about the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation for special occasions, though I haven't had a chance to try it out, myself. Maybe get a sample and try it out before the big day? Congratulations!

Thanks for another informative video. You really are the best when it comes to trying out products and giving your honest opinion based on results. That being said, I have a question about glycolic acid based upon your recent video on body care. I too felt while watching that video, that the glycolic acid seemed to reduce the crepey and wrinkled skin better than the retinol. Here is my question, what is your opinion of alternating glycolic acid with retin-a? One day retin-a, one day glycolic? I have read that some dermatologists like to go this route after the patient has been on a retin-a regimine for 2 years. Keep up the good work Angie and have a very Happy Mother's Day!

    • @AngieHotandFlashy
      @AngieHotandFlashy  7 лет назад

Where glycolic acid and retinol are both OTC, I can see using one over the other, but I'm not sure about subbing OTC glycolic instead of prescription Retin-A... Also, the body glycolic was 12% which is pretty high to use on the face so I'd think in an alternating routine you'd use something in the 5-10% range which would be less effective. I'd do more like 1-2 days of glycolic with 5-6 of Retin-A or a weekly glycolic peel, but you can certainly try alternating. Have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend!
