    It was a leaner, meaner Jedi Order that was forged out of trial and error in a time of war, less dogmatic and more pragmatic. Less stuck in its ways and more flexible and willing to experiment. And most important of all: it didn't view human connection as something to be shunned.

      its such a shame because imagine a world where kylo purged MOST of the academy except for say 7 or so of the students who scattered in groups of 2-3-1-1. make it so the Knights of ren had like 10 or so lightsaber wielding members led by kylo varying in power from padawan to jedi master and kylo being like grandmaster/mace windu level. them being spread out and hunted even in those numbers is deadly since kylo knows them all intimately. lor san tekka was a jedi knight but more of an archivist for luke that's why kylo kills him first getting info to help track the others which he potentially had the info pulled from his mind showing kylo dominate a character we would later learn was a friend in the academy.
      Like a story about reuniting the lost jedi order and giving hope to the galaxy.
      with luke who could still feel like he failed kylo and cry for a bit although I would prefer he was single handedly guarding every jedi and sith artifact from kylo and his forces and snoke, by both concealing their presence constantly in the force and when he can reaching out his to his students from across the galaxy. Then when they get luke say at the end of movie 1 or beginning of 2 he joins them and the constant veil lifts which is like a fog and then we get to see GM Luke actually fight. The subversion was that people thought he abandoned them but was instead with them and the force the entire time
      Like so many cool ways to bring even a new original character like finn into the story with a jedi academy involved and they can it to build NOTHING

That the NJO also believed in redemption meant many of those that fell to the Dark Side returned, rather than becoming long term threats and splinter orders like the Sith, which were a direct result of the Old Jedi Order's rigidity and their general belief that once a Jedi went dark, they were a lost cause.

      @lololol924 3 года назад +35

      I think a lot of people don't give the old Jedi order enough leeway as to HOW it became so rigid and stagnant.
      It's not like they woke up one day and decided to make their members emotionless and celibate.
      There was essentially a long line of fallen Jedi that succumbed to the dark side because they had what were at first, sympathetic reasons (e.g. love) for abandoning the cause.
      The solution over thousands of years of Jedi falling is a more rigid system unfortunately.
      It's incredibly cruel to subject someone to indoctrination to bury and let go of their emotions from a young age. But when you live in a universe where even ONE fallen Jedi can cause millions of deaths and destabilization of the Galaxy, it's kind of their responsibility to keep a leash on their members.

Yoda and the old Jedi council were more interested in saving themselves

Not only is it loaded with interesting characters like Corran Horn, Tionne, Tahiri Veila, Kyp Durron etc., but the fact that they are allowed to have families and lives outside of the Jedi Order makes them so much more relatable. I thought the major (canon) reason Luke didn't continue the strictures of the old Jedi was because they were no longer relevant. He had only a few dozen Jedi all of whom he had personal relationships with. They were not ambassadors or generals representing a government, so there were no bans on skills like force lightning. Luke could trust them not to abuse such powers. Seems some problems did crop up in the later books with young Jedi going down some dark paths.
    Of course, he had sketchy knowledge of the era and he may not have known about some of the old traditions.

They were more flexible with the code, which is good since what works for one person might not work for another. I also loved the idea of Luke using the Yavin 4 temples as his academy. Unlike the original Jedi who saw anything dark side as being inherently bad, Luke realized that the dark side is a part of oneself and it's also part of the force in general. So he encouraged his students to embrace both sides of the force and create a balance. In other words, the Jedi of his academy could use dark side abilities, so long as they kept their moral composure and used the force to do the right thing. They were taught not to fear the dark side but to also be mindful and maintain that balance.

    Would be cool to see more of Luke’s New Jedi order in a series, and possibly adapt elements from legends that could work for the Canon story.
    Could even be centered around a journey with Luke Skywalker searching for Jedi/force sensitives across the galaxy.

      Based on Battlefront 2’s campaign, that’s kinda what he did. We know he traveled around looking for old Jedi artifacts and writings so he’d be prepared for teaching a new generation. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that he also came across other Force Sensitives and passed on some pointers from his own journey.

(That seems like kinda an obvious fact, but it’s one I only just put together just now.)

    That makes me wonder how the Jedi of the Old Republic would've reacted to Luke's Newer, more transparent Jedi Order. Would they be appalled by the changes? Or perhaps would welcome the changes with open arms? I can see Plo Koon accepting it without hesitation, while Mace Windu would be skeptical at the very least, given his dogmatic outlook.

    The other huge advantage of allowing Jedi to have relationships is that their kids will most likely be _powerful in the Force._
    The Old Jedi Order rules actually bred out Force sensitivity and make it a negative genetic trait - you join the Order and you're _removed from the gene pool._ Then the only way new potential Jedi get born is by recessive genes of those too weak in the Force to be Jedi themselves hooking up.
    As well parents who have their Force sensitive child kidnapped by the Order would be reluctant to have more children that would in all likelihood also be taken.
    And thus Force sensitivity is from a Darwinian perspective similar to a fatal genetic mutation - you have it in high enough concentration to be snatched up and you're a dead end.
    Meanwhile in Luke's academy Jedi are probably bonking each other, which means that Force sensitivity is reinforced in following generations [could a seperate linage of Super Force sensitivities be the eventual result after enough generations? A subrace(s) of Jedi]. And as well having children that you are proud of and turn out superhuman would encourage Jedi to have even more kids - the only risk is in the Star Wars universe childbirth is risky because OB/GYN is so incompetent that a mother can die in childbirth due to her emotions.
    Try claiming _that_ as a defence in a malpractice suit.

    • @infinitesheldon5710
      @infinitesheldon5710 3 года назад +5

      The only issue with this take is the Force itself. It's only a semi-genetic trait. The Force has a will of its own, and can decide when someone is born with or without Force sensitivity. Sure, usually when someone who is Force sensitive has a child, that child is Force sensitive. But there are plenty of examples in both legends and canon where a non-Force sensitive is born to Force sensitive parents. Or when Force sensitives are born to non-Force sensitive parents. Heck, it's even happened to entire peoples. The whole Rakatan Infinite Empire used to be Force sensitive, and then suddenly Force sensitive Rakatans stopped being born altogether. By the time of KotOR, we don't know of a single living Force sensitive Rakatan left in the galaxy, iirc.
      Basically, as long as life exists in the galaxy, people will be born Force sensitive, whether or not their parents were.

      "The other huge advantage of allowing Jedi to have relationships is that their kids will most likely be powerful in the Force."
      The force can pull itself back from a bloodline, but also that's brought up as a negative by Vergere. She points out that Ben Skywalker represents a Jedi *DYNASTY* which is certain to unnerve politicians the galaxy over. Parallels to the issue of priests leaving church land to their kids etc.

      That was part of the reasoning behind Luke’s allowances. But there were drawbacks with successive generations. Plagueis mentioned something about it in his hand written notes in ‘Book of Sith’. Physical anomalies or disabilities or mental instability or something…
      The other issues are;
      1 - the Midi-chlorians are organelle within the people of a GFFA, like our mitochondria, so the genetics of it work a bit different than say guessing whether the baby will have blue or brown eyes with a pea chart.
      2 - the Midi-chlorians and more importantly, the Force has a will of it’s own. Which is something that Plagueis was struggling to tame.
      It works in theory, but not without issue in practice. The Skywalkers and some races like the Sith or the Rakata were anomalies.
