I never realized how hard it was to make a video when most of The content of the video comes from source material that doesn’t actually have any footage. SW was for all intents and purposes dead by 1991, Zahn resurrected the IP with the Thrawn trilogy and the EU writers rebuilt the IP into the powerhouse that allowed Lucas to make 3 more movies... then he betrayed them all.
The only SW media worth reading is the EU stuff between 1991 and 1999.. everything after ep 1 is tainted.

Legends isn't some non-canon bs fan fiction. It's an equally valid separate story, as George Lucas viewed it. Had he made his sequels, they propably wouldn't fit into the EU Lore, but it doesn't matter, the eu would still be continued as a parallel universe, maybe under a different name but it doesn't matter. Disney should remember that. It wouldn't hurt their canon if they simply continued the old one. I hope that some day maybe they will.

The EU was one of the most beautiful things ever made. It's extremely unique in all of writing. It's this deep and very well-balanced universe with hundreds of books set in it that manages to still be contiguous, even if there are some rough spots here and there. The stories are just so immense and expansive, and excluding maybe a tiny few examples of poor lore (Sun Crusher stuff, Hand of Vader, the mind control gun) the worst is just middling or just didn't get properly executed but had really interesting ideas and deep concepts which unfortunately fell apart. The best of the EU is absolutely incredible and adds immensely to the story.
Dark Empire had faults, but it implemented a lot that is loved at the same time, the Dark Empire's technology and ideas explored very interesting things and created some much-beloved elements.
I personally can't stand the modern Star Wars, I _adore_ and _love_ world building. It doesn't really give anything of value to me and constantly breaks the continuity in ways I can't enjoy, not to mention the failings in character arcs and destruction of Han's and Luke's off-screen.

If it's no longer canon, then majority of people won't watch, read, or play the game of meaning over time less and less people will care or even know about it vs canon which will get tv shows, games, merchandise of its timeline frequently constantly talk about, parks built after it, etc.
( overall In the end legends will be simply overlooked by many for simply reason it's not canon and doesnt hold weight in overall story anymore) it will be forgotten or barely known overtime/ to make matter worse today most people don't read books over other entertainment options so it only going to get worse.

I very much doubt that, those stories have existed and influenced Star Wars for decades and still do. It's kinda hard to claim people are going to forget about them when the canon regularly reincorporates ideas and characters straight from Legends. You also act like they're banned and aren't being sold and read regularly, I doubt anyone's going to give a shit about some "LEGENDS" label on a SW book besides neckbeards.
"You and the other guy saying somehow canon doesn't matter is just so wrong and head canon is pretty much just another word for denial and low ball at worst fanfiction" I guess, but no one's going to break into my house and beat the shit out of me just because I consider Heir to the Empire and Knights of the Old Republic as canon, at the end of the day it's my interpretation of Star Wars and no one else can change that. Not to mention those kind of decisions aren't made by artists and writers, they're made by business men that couldn't give less of a shit about Star Wars if they tried. There's not much reason to care about their business decisions because that's all they are at the end of the day, business decisions, not artistic ones.

One of the most baffling things about people associating Legends with dudebros and conservative fans is that Legends is actually way more diverse than Disney canon. Dozens of well written female characters, POC, hell, even the first LGBT character in Star Wars, Juhani from the first KOTOR, came from Legends. You can even romance her if you play with a female MC. Meanwhile Disney uses diversity in such shallow ways to pander to audiences who want to see more of that in media. Just look how badly they treated Finn and John Boyega himself during the sequels. Actually, one of my biggest gripes with TLJ is how they sidelined Finn, who was of equal importance to Rey in TFA, and just ran with it for TROS. They didn't even have the decency to acknowledge him being force sensitive in the film, we had to find out about it during post release commentary. Compare this to the prequels where not only Samuel L. Jackson was cast as a fucking Jedi Master, but dude even got to choose his own custom lightsaber colour for Windu. Wild.

How about Young Jedi Knights? It tells a great story about how you have to learn to live with a disability. Disabled representation! And her accident could be seen as gun-control allegory. Or, and this is still relevant today, the dangers of how easy it is for an otherwise decent fella to be drawn into a radical splinter group. That's chilling when you look at the shit going on today. And I find it hilarious that both left AND right hard-liners HATE these stories, the left because they think it's an attack on them to show a diverse group of fanatics unleashing a virus (hits a little too close to home), and the right because the word "diversity" triggers them and they'd tune out right away before even reading it. Well, as it stands, this flaming liberal is sticking to Legends over the Disnoids. Fuck the canon crap, they can't even keep it consistent for ten years, never mind forty. I'm choosing what I love.

No, I think that there isn't a multiverse needed in the lore to allow the continuation of legends. It can be continued as a totally separate story with the same name and simmilar characters. It's like they handled The Walking Dead. Comic book story has its own universe and Tv show has its own. And some games are in one universe and some are in the other. And they're not connected through any multiverse or something, they are just that - separare stories. And that's what I'd like to happen with star wars one day. That someone will just say "Ok, let's allow them to write some new stories ser in legends, let's continue the old timeline as well". As simple as that.

The amount of effort and talent that different writers and artists put into the Legends continuity over the decades is mind boggling. The overwhelming majority of my favorite characters in the Star Wars universe have NEVER been in a single film with them in it. To this day, I have yet to watch any of the sequel trilogy films again. Every time I see Rey and Kylo Ren on screen, I just think of Jaina and Jacen Solo. Every time I see Luke being the depressed, pessimistic schmuck he is in The Last Jedi, I remember how incredible and inspiring he was in Legends. This canon was literally gift wrapped to Disney and they absolutely destroyed the amazing potential they had. To me, the sequel trilogy is glorified fan fiction. THIS……This will ALWAYS be the real Star Wars. And I know that I’m not alone..

Did you ever hear of the tragedy of the Star Wars Expanded Universe?
    New Star Wars Fan: No.
I thought not, it's not a timeline Disney would tell you about. They're now a so-called Legends story. The Star Wars Expanded Universe was a collection of novels, comic books, video games, roleplay, radio shows, HoloNet, parodies, Holiday Specials, animated shows and TV movies it could use the lore of Star Wars to tell brand new stories and introduce very well written characters. It had such a great knowledge of Star Wars it kept many fans from going toxic and berserk.
New Star Wars Fan: It could keep the fans in check?
The Expanded Universe is a pathway to many great stories some considered to be non-canon.
New Star Wars Fan: And what happened?
It became so vast with stories, that the only thing it feared was being decanonized which, eventually of course it did. Unfortunately, it taught its new apprentice Disney everything it knew. Then Disney decanonized it when they purchased LucasFilm. Ironic how the animated Clone Wars series could survive this purge and remain canon. But not the Expanded Universe.
New Star Wars Fan: Is it possible to learn these stories.
    Not from Disney.

It blew my mind that Star Wars was more than just the six movies. I was pissed when Disney purged the EU. I tried to keep up with the new stuff, but after awhile it couldn't hold my attention. Now I'll pick up a new book here or there. They haven't quite managed to hook me like those old 90's books did, probably because other than Zahn writing Thrawn, most of the stories don't have much connection with each other. The High Republic looks to be trying to remedy that, but I've been having trouble getting through the first book. It suffers from Pilot syndrome, where its mostly setup for later stories.

There is this part i recently read in Children of the Jedi, that is a perfect example of how Luke was not just a one way person. He's relatively calm and controlled in the last few books, but he see's a Jawa getting horrifically tortured and that makes him act just like Vader. He makes no physical contact with the torturers, he just uses the Force to pick them up and smash them off of everything until they are dead. I guess senseless torture is something that brings the savage out of Luke.

Great video. Strange how not many EU fans (I'm never gonna use the word "lEgEnDs") haven't pointed out how Jao Assam from Legacy Volume 2 is essentially the GOOD version of Finn from the Disney trash.
Honestly, what makes this aggravating is that Disney has no intention of continuing the EU. At all. Aside from throwing crumbs like updating SWTOR or that one Marvel issue, they ditched the old authors after making them write 1 or 2 novels under their banner, in favor of corporate approved servants.
On the other hand, Disney themselves know the sequels are hot trash that split people apart, therefore they spent the past 3 years distancing themselves and just dangling keys to keep people happy : TCW Season 7, The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, the upcoming Kenobi, Ahsoka, Andor shows. The reasons why I can't get into Disney Star Wars is :
    1) It's way too simplified and dumbed down. Rebels is too kiddy, Mando is a boring, overrated western padded with fetch quests and nostalgia cameos. TBoBF was trash and only confirmed the mass delusion people have about "Filoni and Favreau saving Star Wars" to be wrong. Nope, TLJ still exists. Deal with it.
    2) It's disgustingly derivative. Either from the OT, as the bulk of Disney Star Wars is set in-between the PT and OT, or during or slightly after the OT. They throw all these pitiful easter eggs to please EU fans and convince normies that they're "cAnOnIzINg" things, when it's just dumbed down, worse and devoid of its original meaning and context. Take the Dark Troopers and Tython in Mando. I DON'T CARE if they're there, because they're no longer tied to Kyle Katarn or Darth Bane's stories.
    3) None of their more original stories really stand out. So many novels and comics have already been retconned : the Ahsoka novel by TCW Season 7, Kanan Last Padawan by The Bad Batch, the Aftermath trilogy by The Mandalorian and TBoBF. Who the HELL cares about Iden Versio ? Or the Tumblrina OC known as Dr Aphra ? Or the insipid KOTOR wannabe known as The High Republic. The Romeo and Juliet sappy romance known as Lost Stars ? Or seeing Leia failing as politician AND mother in Bloodlines ? Or Lando's Karen droid ?
Outside of Rogue One and Jedi Fallen Order, there's really NOTHING about these stories that stand out. The characters are bland or trash, the stories are bland, demeaning or trash, worldbuiling and lore are lazy or nonexistent.
I can't get invested, and I don't get why some people would except for them having really low standards.

    • @saberiandream316
      @saberiandream316 2 года назад +2

You hit the nail on the head. Low standards and being gullible idiots. And Disney can't keep running away from their problems forever, but they don't know what to do or where to take the direction of Star Wars. Someday they'll have to confront it, if only because the customer base forces them to. And I can't wait for that, it's gonna be *_glorious._*

I LOVE Legends. It's the Star Wars I grew up with, and it's the Star Wars that still fills me with wonder and emotion today. And it's what I personally consider "canon".
I do not like Disney's canon (and that includes Filoni-verse stuff due to his strange obsession with retconning). That isn't to say I hate all of it. I thought The Mandalorian was decent. I actually really liked Jedi Fallen Order (which feels more like a Legends story, ironically enough). But overall, it just doesn't hit the same.
I think the worst part about it all is that Legends will never continue (outside of maybe future Old Republic expansions). At this point, I would be happy if Disney would just let Legends continue as a separate parallel story (not a multiverse situation, just two continuities running simultaneously). I want the last Republic Commando/Imperial Commando book. I want Sword of the Jedi. I want to see the era between Crucible and the Legacy comics, and I want to see what happens after the Legacy comics.

The Disney Trash Trilogy has nothing on Real Star Wars, The EU. Disney doesn't own Star Wars, I do. TFA is a cheap plagiarized version of Legacy Vol.2. Last Jedi is a quite original nothing and RoS is an awesome bookend, that perfectly closes and gives those "films" the deserved name of The Disney Trash Trilogy.

Disney could ve erase somethings from Legends like starkiller, return of palpatine, death of chewie etc they didnt have to destroy the whole lore. It feels like all those novels, comics, games and efforts that has been made to expend star wars feels like it was for nothing. They are not important anymore, now they all will be forgotten in decades later. It pains me to see this really. They just could ve continiue after 200 ABY that would be like restarting and creating future as if you liked. Though we see some good stories like Andor, Rogue One and Eclipse probably they didnt have to destroy everything... I will never ever forgive disney for what they have done.

As you said, the EU was amazing because it prioritized the maintaining the progression of Lucas’ iconic characters.
Disney killed off the entire family tree and has spent a decade wiping out that progression as though it never happened…all so their legacies could be rewritten into Disney’s character replacements.
