I so desperately wanted the CTB to work, but it’s just so dang big. I felt like I have a huge turtle shell on my back and I’ve heard the 20L sticks out just as far. The fabric is stupidly fantastic with dog hair, the organization and handle are amazing, and the top QAPs are second to none. Would love a low profile version!
@@restlessmegs the depth between the two pack is only 1cm but you really have to pack the 20l to the brim to make it stick out The material is quite souple so when the pack is not full you don’t see much depth.
it's a great bag but yes it will look very big on especially if you're smaller, that's why i would only use it for travel cause sometimes i need to bring a lot of items and don't really care how it looks haha 🙃
I own both, and while they're similar in what they offer on paper, I think they feel a bit different in practice. (To cut to the chase, I think a better comparison is actually between the CTB26 and the Able Carry Max, when talking about use cases and usable space.) I tend to find Evergoods' usable volume to be just a bit more than the listed volume in practice, more than that of other companies across the board, and that's definitely the case here - while they're both ostensibly 26 liters, I can fit a bit more in the CTB26. Its dimensions are a touch larger and its shape (more of a rectangle compared to the Max EDC's oval) is more conducive to packing out, but some of this versatility might be due to the materials as well, since there's a bit more "give" to the 420D nylon when compared to the Max EDC's Xpac. That said, the CTB26 looks noticeably bigger on my back when compared with the Max EDC, so there's that as well. I think the Max EDC actually comps a bit better to EG's CPL24 than it does to the CTB26 - the EDC Max and CPL24 feel like they carry a similar amount and look a bit more streamlined and structured for EDC while being able to flex into minimal weekend travel, whereas the CTB26 can honestly work for up to five days (even a week if you're super minimal), but looks and feels too big for EDC, IMO. Adding to this is the fact that the Xpac keeps its shape even when not fully packed out, whereas the 420D kinda looks a bit empty when carrying a smaller EDC loadout. I love the Max EDC for its great organization and beautiful look and materials - and for anyone who prefers a larger EDC with a separate laptop compartment, I think it's a worthwhile step up over the Able Carry Daily Plus without moving entirely out of the EDC space. But I think there's a noticeable difference in space and feel when you compare the Max EDC with the CTB26 - the former being a large ECD, and the latter being a small/moderate travel bag. So yeah, as I said at the top, I think if you're in the market for a minimal travel bag and not an EDC, I'd look into comparing the CTB26 and the Able Carry Max, and think of the Max EDC more as an EDC/minimal weekend travel option.
@@j.b.1903 wow, thanks a lot for the amazing answer. I actually got a Max EDC recently, I intended to get the CTB26 but the moment I saw the max EDC I thought it was more fitting to my use, geared towards EDC. Still I was wondering if it had been the right choice and thanks to your answer I think it is. Although I am still eyeballing the CTB26 lol maybe if someday I really need a travel bag
@@OndaPiloto No problem! Yeah, if you find you have need for a one-bag-travel backpack and that the Max EDC is just a touch too small to comfortably fit what you need but you don’t want to go too much larger, I think the CTB26 would work great. I personally find these days that I prefer to pair a backpack with another bag for anything over four or five days, and that’s why I was excited to snag the Max EDC, which is the perfect size for that - spacious enough to fit a good amount, but small enough to easily fit under an airplane seat, work as a (slightly large and heavy) day bag at the destination, etc, better than the CTB. Plus I can use it between trips for EDC, while the CTB just sits in my closet until I have trip that specifically needs it. That said, I just took a 4-day work trip last week and wanted to do it with a single backpack, and when put to the choice of which bag to take, I opted for the CTB26, and I was reminded of why it’s such an amazing bag for this sort of trip. While I could ~just~ fit everything I needed into the Max EDC, I was happy when I got off the plane and, finding it was 70 degrees in NYC, I was able to cram my sweatshirt into the CTB26 along with everything else! The patterning on that bag is like magic.

Great review! I love my CTB26 - minimal, utilitarian even, but so great for travel because it always feels like it can fit *just a bit more* if you need it to. I actually like using the pen slot as an AirTag pocket - you can kinda shove the AirTag down deep in there and forget about it.
Fantastic review! As always, I loved the presentation and the format. This bag looks beautiful, and the design is sleek, but I don't think it justifies the price. For that amount, you could get a more premium X-Pac bag from other brands.
Honestly, if you put phone, wallet, passport in such a pocket it's hard to feel bad if you get pickpocketed. I never understood all of the questions about safety and pickpocketing and traveling in Europe. But with people putting valuables in those pockets I now kinda do. I live in a big European city. Don't Put Stuff There I mean, it's safe here. You don't need slashproof bags or locks. But that is just giving it away.
Sternum straps like this are definitely not designed for women because you don’t always have it in the same spot…. A different bra, sweater or jacket could dictate a slight variation in the location of the sternum strap. Oh well I guess

Love the airport scenario. That really happens! Great review always!
It does!! Glad you enjoyed :)

Thank you 😊
Thank you so much ❤️ thats a great idea I'll try and add it to my list!
Thanks for making this video! I'm 5"1 and can tell already this will be massive on me 😂. Maybe the CTB20 will be a better choice 👍
I believe the CTB20 is shorter but just as deep. I’ve seen pictures and they both stick out so dang far on us shorties.
It will def still look a bit bulky on us smaller people, Evergoods make some thick bags. But sometimes gotta do what ya gotta do lol 😆

So happy you enjoyed it :) yes their bags are on the pricer side but it is really good quality
I’m 5’2 and found the CTB20 a better fit for me and you can fit more than 20L and it doesn’t stick out that much like some people say.
Fasho us smaller people gotta go for the smaller packs if we don't wanna look like we're carrying a turtle shell lol
Can you review the mpl22? wonder if it is too long for shorter torsos but since this is a longer bag..
i'll try and add it to my list :)
I’m between you and Aaron in size. You got a middle sibling for the height comparison ?
Hahahaha we actually do, I'll see if he's interested
You’re the best
Oh stoppppp 😊

Agreed, you have to pack very smart depending where you are
The laptop compartment is padded. Why would there be another round of padding in the frame sheet compartment?
extra protection 🤷🏼♀️
Why can't we buy that patch? 🙂
Hahaha should we sell some??🤔
That's a big old black cube with zips. Looks decent... Also looks big enough for you to fit in and get carried through the airport.. free travel. 😂😂😂
Hahah packs always looks sooo much bigger on me 😅
so what is the most comfortable bag you tried?
for travel the osprey fairview 40L, for edc i love the alpaka metro
CTB 20L loading…… please
It's on the list!!👍
