Good point that you mentioned about the 7kg carry-on weight restriction on international air travels. I’m always mindful on this issue whenever I go on one-bag travel 😊
Thanks! For sure. When you add in a laptop, battery pack, camera and other tech devices things start to get heavy quickly. One thing I did notice though was that when I travelled internationally in March with my kids the airline only weighed my backpack, not the kids backpacks so I distributed some of my weight temporarily to them. Not an option if you are solo though!
@@pauldiaz4769was gonna say the same thing. I’ve overloaded my personal item/carryon to wayyyy over 7kg/15lbs and as long as the bag isn’t too big, I think you’ll be fine even if you just fill it with bricks haha
From my excessive pack collection, the CTB35 has been the best overall execution of travel pack that I've tried. In my case, the hip belt is an absolute necessity. I do travel with one bag only and often fill it to the brim. The hip belt does ease the load off the shoulders quite nicely. Lastly, imo the CAP2 is not a good item to include for one bag travel. It's form factor doesn't accommodate to any of my carry styles considering the dimensions of this type of backpack. I own a whole lot of other pouches that work much better. I have ended up using the CAP2 as a desk caddy. The CAP1, on the other hand, perfectly fits in the top front compartment without fighting for space.
You cannot go wrong with Aer. The Aer Tech Kit v1 non-XPac remains my most versatile tech pouch. It's a bit bulky, reason why I sometimes switch to other smaller pouches. If you carry a lot of cables, hard drives, power banks, a small tablet, etc., go with the one you've been eyeing.
The hip belt on the CTB35 is actually very helpful if it fits your torso. I do agree though with most one bag travel bags hip belts are useless. But the Evergoods does actually transfer the weight to your hip.
Since you don't like the front pocket on the GR2, have you ever tried adding an internal and/or external molle pocket? It looks like you could use one of the built-in internal pockets for fairly quick access for passports and such as well. Two zips an you're in. Have you tried that? TIA 🙂
Thanks for the review. Have a CTB26 and it's pretty tight for one bag travel (personally) so I was thinking of moving up to the 35L. The situation with the hip belt and the overall weight has me second guessing/looking for other options.
Absolutely. It is still a great product and I'm actually using it on a trip as I type this, but the shoulder straps definitely add an inch and a half or so of bulk to the back panel that doesn't need to be there. For me, the weight is ok as I like the materials and the organization that it provides, but if you are looking for an ultralight option there are definitely other choices out there.
I've been using the Peak Design small camera cube to hold my R5 with a 28-70 f/2.0 lens. Those camera cubes are designed really well, but they are a bit bulky. For tech pouches I use the Evergoods CAP2.
Great reviews on all the Evergood bags. Personally, I think hip belts are necessary on a 35-45L travel pack, as do many reviewers. In your video, you say that you do not use hip belts, but then comment on how uncomfortable the shoulder straps are when carrying a heavy load. The shoulder straps, sternum strap and hip belts are all part of a “Harness System,” designed just for that purpose. It is analogous to not using your subwoofer, then complaining about the lack of bass in your “Stereo System.”
Absolutely on the harness system. For a hiking or hunting pack that I'd be potentially carrying heavier weights for longer consistent durations I would absolutely want and use hip belts to effectively carry a significant load. Some people would definitely put these hip belts to use, but for me I typically use this bag when I'm in airports, boarding and deplaning, climbing into cars etc... and in those instances I find hip belts and for that matter all unnecessary straps just seem to get snagged and hooked at inopportune moments. For that reason I prefer to just throw the bag over my shoulders and use the straps and not fuss with hip belts. I just think that slightly wider shoulder straps would have made it a more comfortable carry in my particular way of employing the bag.
@@chris_shafer, I’m with you on your thoughts on hip belts. For air travels, it gets in the way, hits people as I’ve been on the recipient end, and I’ve seen airlines pay attention when it’s sticking out. I’m close to 5’9” (~175cm) and fluctuate between 190-195lbs (86-88kg) but have a torso length of 21” so this pack fits well then their other lines that are 17-19” (too short and rides high on my back). Anyhow, I can handle a lot of weight but these straps (without the use of hip belt) will start to dig into my traps more than some other packs. When I bring a carry-on with rollers, I would rest the pack on it as much as possible. I wish that in future airlines allow to pay a little more to add 5kg so the one bag travel becomes more appropriate. Right now with the 35 + carry-on roller, it’s definitely more than 12kg as the roller is more than 3-4kg without anything in it. The CTB 26l sounds like a good alternative.
I had two of these bags. Returned the first because it was noticably 'wonky' as it looked like from the back that it leaned up the left... 2nd bag i got did the same but not as bad. Sold it..
Just purchased the CTB 26 and have the same issue. I was so excited to try out multiple EG bags but so far none have been as good as many reviewers make them sound. Not referring to this review but in general. When you have it high on your back the top shows over your shoulders (which already looks weird) and it's noticeably higher on one side. Thought maybe my shoulders were just uneven but when I hold it up on its own it's noticeable as well. Also looks a lot bigger than the 24l imo even though dimensions aren't that different. GR2 is best looking that I've tried but don't love the molle webbing and the cost of xpac version is too much. Still looking...

I have never seen an Airline weighinig the personal item.

What are some tech pouches that you recommend? I've been eyeing the Aer Cable Kit 2 in X-Pac.

Nice review, still trying to find a bag for 4 days three nights business travel. This may be it.
Depending on how you pack I think this could definitely work. It packs larger than a 35L bag. Feels more like 40L to me.
Good thorough review. Thanks! What camera cubes or other methods do you use for gear?

How is it on the overbins and does it fit in seat in front of you on plane?

Thanks! Just generic amazon ones.

@@heckface81 Ya the bag literally is higher on one side than the other and it's not good looking. I ended up getting a gr2 34l and love it!
One the fence between this bag and the GoRuck GR3 35L. Any experience with GoRuck?
I've got a video on the GR2 35L
Love my 35L…. Evergoods needs to drop this in Xpac
Absolutely. I've been using my CPL 24L in XPac every day since I got it.
Where do you guys purchase evergoods products? Cant find them anywhere
Do you have a 26L version of this bag? I'm considering moving from the 24L CPL, but I definitely don't need the 35L CTB.
No, just the 35L, but I do have a 28L CPL and it is really nice size.
How was your stay here in the Philippines? Hope you and your family enjoyed 😊
It was amazing. This was my 8th time (I think!) and my kids 2nd time. They loved it and I think they learn so much by going.
Make videos of goruck 🔥🔥. Great videos!!
Got one coming!
