  • The 2023 Ragley Hall Classic Car Show was a new event for us, so we headed to Alcester in Warwickshire full of enthusiasm to see what new-to-us classic cars we'd stumble across. While the weather wasn't always on our side (how often have we said that at car shows recently!!!), there was an excellent turnout of classic cars that we hadn't seen or video'd before.
    Fortunately, I managed to video most of the classic cars at Ragley Hall before the weather turned properly wet, leading to many cars heading home before we'd had chance to make a second tour of the show field and take all the photos I'd hoped to get. Maybe next year! The grounds of Ragley Hall make for a fine location in which to hold a classic car show - or "classic car & motor show" as it's actually titled - so all being well we'll get there again, preferably on a slightly drier day.
    I must say a quick thanks to everyone that took the time to have a chat about their old vehicles - in particular the owners of the Lea-Francis special, the 1920s Chevrolet, a fine BSA motorcycle, and the owners of an immaculate Ford Zephyr Six Mk1 who were also good sports and kindly took time out from their sandwiches to show me around their (ex-South Africa) car.
    Other highlights included a selection of Ford Consul Mk1s and Volvo P1800s, a 1946 Chevrolet, a very rare version of an Austin 10, an A40 Sports, Vauxhall Victor FB, Ford Zodiac Mk2 convertible, two FIAT 131 Supermirafiori Sports, Lagonda 3-Litre DHC, and a Morris Ital-era ex-British Telecom van.
    Overall a very enjoyable day at the Ragley Hall classic car show. If you were there, let us know in the comments which car you had on display, or if you were visiting, which was your favourite car on display? I've tried to show a bit of everything in this Ragley Hall video but as always I've focused on the older cars.

    You were talking about BMC car smell. My folks had a new 1960 Minor when I was born, here in the states. That smell feels like home to me. All these years later, I have a 1958 Minor. I had to build mine from a basket case, so of course I had to retrim everything. I almost cried when I opened the door on the first hot day out, and that smell hit me in the face, and I was instantly a little kid again! I don't know how it could still retain that glorious BMC essence.

    You brought back some memories with that Orbit book! I had nearly all of those, and the I-Spy one you showed us before, *and* the I-Spy 'Car Numbers' book.
    A car-obsessed kid? Me? Surely not! (Ironic thing; I'm 61 now and have never learned to drive 🙃 )

    What a great exhibition of vehicles. Many many years ago, as a lad still wet behind the years, and straight out of school, my first job was at a Rootes dealer. If my memory serves me well, which I doubt, I believe the Sunbeam first mentioned at 2:32 is a Imp Sport. The Stiletto was a Fastback, as was the Hillman Imp California. I apologise if I am wrong.

    Great to see the Austin A90 Westminster. I owned one of these, and later a Wolseley 6/90 with the same "C" Series BMC engine except for the two carburettors some years ago. These English cars were very much better equipped than our home grown Holdens in the 1950s.

    Hi Richard and hi Harley . That '66 ? Riviera is the epitome of Americana . That "primrose " import "e"type really is primrose ! To be fair if l had to pick a favourtie the listwould be at least 50 + but for total passion and knowledge that Lea Francis was the car for me and you knew enough to actually encourage the owner to elaborate in great detail . Thankyou gentlemen .

    1:22:06 Opel G.T. Did sell in the U.S. with “moderate “ sales -for what it was. Opel sold at select
    “Buick - Opel” dealers. Opel was only a minor player. Surprising, given the rise of the subcompact cars. The Japanese were really beginning to corner the market. So, Opel just faded away.

    Hi 👋 I have been thinking about the past quite alot lately. Back to the 1960s/70s and eighties. Listening to music from those decades, and i have a large collection of records and cds. I'm getting older. Good memories and not so good ones too. Viewing you and your son Harleys videos i like because some of the cars were ones that i remember on the roads here in New Zealand in those days. Cars that school teachers had, also neighbour's in the street i grew up in. My Grandfather's, Uncles and Aunts vechiles too. My older brothers first cars. There was no Rolls Royce in my family like the beautiful Silver Cloud on display in your video. Ford Zephyrs and Consuls were assembled in car plants here, and sold well. Excellent car show. Thanks.

    Another good one Rick, a great show and very entertaining commentary. Good interview with the owner of the Lea Francis. Looks like "groovy" is taking over from "bobby dazzler" today. Love it, a word I used a lot at school in the 70's. An interesting thing about MG TA to TD is that the bars in the grill should be painted rather than chromed, the colour should match the upholstery, something I picked up from a bloke doing a resto on a TD. The "late model Mustang" you referred to that was next to the red Chrysler Imperial is no ordinary Mustang, it's a limited edition second gen "Bullitt edition" (2008-2009), a guaranteed future classic.

    My sister's friend's first car was a late 1950s / or early 1960s model Morris Major back in the 1980s, looking like the white Riley there in the show.

    I enjoyed your extended video. It is very nice to get the extra details about some of the more interesting vehicles. You have managed to tick probably the most difficult car off my bucket list. The Mk2 Healey Sprite. I was truly amazed to see one. Yes it was only possible because it was fitted with that hard top. Mine was a bit of a rust bucket, they all were. As you have found A Jowett Jupiter in the back of a garage. My list is complete.
    So to add to it, I think a Rover 12 Sportsman Saloon. Sorry it's a pre-war saloon car with a smallish engine. I can make it a little easier by adding the Rover 10 D back model. I am going back in time 1958 to 1964 period. My dad had the Rover 12 & a neighbour had the Rover D back. Rover were cars of class back then despite their age. People buying their houses with mortgages did not buy new cars. Rovers had a foot operated one shot oil pump that oiled all the relevant bushings underneath. Doing home maintenance was normal & Dad was a fully qualified Engineer. He was also into Model Engineering. (3 1/2" G steam locomotives).

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching, I do occasionally find pre-war Rover P2s and P1s and they have featured in previous uploads (although I don't remember which ones offhand!)

    • @mervynprice7009
      @mervynprice7009 Год назад

      @@oldclassiccarUK I know you do & they are very nice. The 12s are far fewer in number & the D back Rovers were even fewer. Hence, the challenge to try to find one. Some popular cars can become very difficult to find. These should always become the challenges. Like the A40 Farina, or a phase 2 Vanguard.

    Another enjoyable video, so many fabulous cars. But what would I take home? 1, the MK 11 Zodiac convertible just brilliant. 2, I'm a sucker for the Zodiac MK IV gold saloon, even better if it was the estate. Step dad owned one, he never had a look in as I was always out in it, and he'd use my MKI Escort. And 3, buy two get the third free 😊 so I love the MK I pale blue mini, also the red mini countryman, ones without the wooden sides were I believe the mini traveller, and to complete the set I'll have the mini van as well.
    Dad had in the mid 60s a light green van a popular colour then with like you say the pop up air vent, push button floor start and cord door openers. Reg 929YPA.
    I enjoy going down memory lane with your videos cheers 🍻

    The first car I ever drove on the road was an FB VX490.I had been driving my dada's Victor 101 on the farm where we were on holiday in Cornwall, when the other guest asked if Would like to drive his VX I obviously said yes. When we got up to the road to Morgan Porth I was about to turn round when he said " turn left"when I said this is public road ,he replied "nothing much comes along here" ,when we got to the road across the old airfield to St Ivel his comment was the same, we met one car, a red Lotus Cortina Rally Car doing about 100MPH on three wheels in an instant I was hooked on rallying although I was never fortunate enough to own a Lotus Cortina I was told by the farmer ,when many of the American pilots left the St Ival air base to return home many flash sports cars were dumped on the edge of the airfield Bentleys included!
