Fyi. The small plate of sweet pickled onions is meant to be eaten with the murtabak.

That plate of "jelly" is made out of glutinous rice pounded into a sticky consistency. It is quite similar to the Japanese mochi; however, instead of wrapping the rice with sweet filling, this one is the sweet condiment to coat the rice for taste. Normally we don't order or serve this dish in a dim sum restaurant.

The murtabak you had is the Malaysian version but was brought over by Indian Muslim traders along with all Rotis centuries ago. The origin is neither Indian nor Malaysian but Arabic from Yemen specifically . I am sure the original Yemenite version is a bit different. There is a slight difference from the Indonesian version theirs is more eggy with little to no meat.

    As Malaysian, i doubt it
The thing is, the so called food capital of Malaysia consist only Chinese & Indian influenced food, not Malay & indigenous like native Borneo of Malaysia
I suggest Sabah Sarawak & East coast of Malaysia; the craddle of Malaysian food😊
