The pink flower used as an ingredient for the broth and garnishing for asam laksa is called ginger torch or ginger flower as it comes from a ginger plant, but it does look like a lotus flower.
Do visit the assumption church, st anne basilica and the holy name of jesus church in penang. All3 are historically important and st anne is the largest catholic festival in Asia outside phillipines.
Roti Jala i think is the only Malay type of roti every other roti is Indian in origin if i am not mistaken. That one is served with mamak (Indian Muslim) style chicken curry. Rose flavored drink is also Malay often served during weddings, breaking relgious fast or common celebrations. Its origin is probably Islamic culture in general since all Malays are Muslims.

@@AbbyandGaz their side entrances are open from 9 to 5pm usually. They tend to close the main doors. Try opening them to see which is unlocked.
