Replacing The Clutch On The Car Trek Maserati With The CAR NINJA Was *Almost* A DISASTER...

- The Car Trek Maserati finally gets it's clutch replaced. But nothing about it is easy...
Ever since I bought this car from Tavarish, the clutch has been bad. I probably made it worse in the last few months, but it almost doesn't matter because its finally getting replaced! And who else would I trust to do this kind of job other than the Car Ninja (Johnny). Not only has Johnny done a Maserati clutch replacement before, but he also is willing to let a guy like me film the whole process which was quite involved! The entire rear-subframe of the car had to be removed (almost permanently) but the Car Ninja doesn't bat an eye to tasks like that.
Be sure to check out Mike and Johnny's RUclips channel: @realcarninja They have some really amazing content and it just keeps getting better and better.

2 shops you can trust in the Wichita area. Car Wizard and Car Ninja. Dont waste time anywhere else.
Ain’t that the truth!
You guys certainly make me wish South Carolina bordered Kansas!
Lol ur true
You guys certainly make me wish central Mexico bordered with kansas
You guys certainly make me wish Antarctica bordered Kansas!
Who else clicked away from Hoovie's video to watch this?
I'm watching this one first.
Sorry! ;)
Yeah I kinda watched this first. Sorry
uh i noticed hoovies first lol
😂
Hey Tyler, I'm watching this video first, then yours, please don't hate me. 😬
Glad I did not let this video slip by…..it is highly engaging.
Thank you! It was quite the job. But Johnny isn’t afraid to tackle anything! Also, this kind of pun is right up my alley.
Feels like he’s clutching at straws
And I thought most of these jokes would be worn out by now
We are just shifting into high gear
bu-dum-tsss
Always trust the mechanic that says he's pretending to know what he's doing, one that actually is pretending would never tell you that.
That’s a good point!
So true. You can never trust someone who thinks they know it all.
Car Ninja is the most humble and down to earth mechanic and he just exudes positivity!
When you replace the throwout bearing, use a Hill Engineering bearing! I just did this job and in my video I show you what goes wrong with the OEM one!
You should be getting about 30 000 miles out of a CC transmission, and quite a bit more out of the manual.
You should've gotten back to me, I did say you could've had my old clutch for the price of shipping! Make sure you get hold of me when you want to rebuild those control arms and exhaust!
Could you get more than 30k? Or have you got more than 30k?
@@DrivenGarage Service records on my car show that is has gotten more than 30 000 Miles before, and Ratarossa has gotten more out of his F360!
@@ShiftMotoring my grandsport has 58k miles on the original clutch still im shocked, bought it from the orginal owner, barely did anything on the car, been very reliable
@@DrivenGarage Clutches are down to drivers, your clutch friendly or not, I would say 70% of drivers are not.
This looks like an extremely difficult job, good job Johnny!
It was a tremendous undertaking. But he didn’t hesitate to knock it out!
Some of my favorite videos on all of RUclips are seeing Jonny at his craft. Great video Elliott!
Johnny is getting a lot of screen time today!
@@ElliottAlvis I always feel conflicted on Jonny vs. Johnny. Johnny looks more correct, but Mike listed it as Jonny in the Velocity Garage Ferrari 360 Spider Drivers series video, and makes sense being shortened from Erjon. Whats your official notary position on this?
@@ajw828 oh man, I guess I never even noticed that. I even have it in my phone incorrectly 😂
Highly impressed with his patience, even when the back end was about to yeat itself out of the car. Dude has nerves of steel. Also impressed you didn't visibly freak out, Elliott.
Well, unfortunately for the exciting part I had the camera set to time-lapse. So there was certainly a reaction, but it wasn’t properly captured 😂
Jonny was cluch in the whole situation!
Haha, yeah he certainly came in clutch 😂
I see what you did there. 😎
if i was gonna spend 3-4k on install, I would spend the extra 1000 for a new clutch (and a new bearing)
I cant imagine how John gets any work done with everyone using his shop to boost their platform. I may be in the minority but if you buy a exotic or high end car I would expect high end dollars for parts otherwise buy what's in your budget like a Camry or something. All that work this man did for a used disc and bearing that sounds sketchy at best.
Specially if it will only last 10k miles, I would just bite the bullet and do the job once and be good for at least 35-40k miles.
Good example of someone how owns a car he really can't afford
@@garrypritchard1658 I guess youtubers are not interested in cars but in making video. Just 10k clutch is the less effort to make a video and after I think he resell that Maserati. Real life and youtubers are different world :D
Why buy a used clutch for these so dumb .
Doing a clutch replacement and saving a few hundred dollars by using a partially worn clutch is false economy when you look at all the labor costs.
Tavarish seems to have an unsettling amount of “fire extinguisher incidents”....
Wherever he goes, destruction follows..
"because we're friends and I trust you"😂😭why was that so funny
Hey!!! Italian here! I didn't know about Ninja living around here! :) Please bring him salutes from here! :) Yes yes, you've followers from here too!
Oh and please tell him we'd LOVE to see some Alfa Romeo in the shop! Thanks!
Awesome! I’ll be sure to pass that along to him! Cheers!
@@ElliottAlvis Great! Thanks, and sorry for the gazzillions "here" I've used in my comment :D Enthusiasm took over :D
I did NOT click away from Hoovie's video to watch this....who's Hoovie? HA!
Gotta love the Car Ninja! Man knows his stuff and has a great team!
He’s the man!
We need a sound comparison between the Maserati and the Ferrari from Car Trek 1
That’s not a bad idea. When the weather warms up, that’ll have to happen.
Few years ago we had to change the cluch on one of those, this while I was doing an internship. Nothing worked, many bolts snapped and it was literally the worst thing ever and took us 3 days. Ninja really makes it look fun. Or maybe we just had no idea what we were doing...
The best video was the one with Jonny complaining about all the youtubers hanging around his shop keeping him from getting any real work done: "The Car Ninja Needs a Break".
It’s true. I hate contributing to the problem, but he does such amazing work!
6:18...
We have a wild Car ninja in his natural habitat
😂 we have to be quite so we don’t disturb him 🤫
who else was thinking that in an Australian accent? lol
@@muskokamike127 crikey!
Yay! About time the clutch was replaced. Now you know what you need. Thanks Johnny! Elliot needed a drivable car! Thank you Elliot for sharing this experience with all of us!
That sway bar has a girth certificate.
Haha 😂 👶🏻
Congrats on the new clutch! Fascinating to watch the process. Johnny rocks!!!😎💪🏼⭐️⭐️
He’s the man! Thanks mom.
Elliot’s best video to date. Watching the car ninja do his thing from start to finish is engaging! Really staring to enjoy this channel and 100PercentJake. Thank you Tyler for creating this genre and giving us these cast of characters.
Wow, johnny a drink for all the hard work.
I owe him more than that!
This is a nightmare just for a clutch but man it feels like it worth it.
It was a nightmare. And it was worth it! Lol
In my best Steve Irwin voice, “Crikey!! It’s a Wild Car Ninja in its natural habitat! We don’t want to disturb him!!”
I should’ve hid behind some bushes 🌳
With mines...I'm gonna get a custom bell housing + mustang trans+ driveshaft + mustang rear...
Now that's magic ✨
I love seeing all of these different RUclips peeps with The Car Ninja or The Wizard in them. Both of them are great guys for us car world types.
Glad you can watch along with us!
The replacement clutch is a bittersweet repair. Great to see you get this done finally.
Mr car NINJA is the man-after watching some of his video- Mr car NINJA have save me a lot of money-greetings from england-thanks
He certainly is the man. Amazing talented and patient
Nice pickle fork t-shirt! Interesting to see the actual body color under that wrap.
Good eye! And yep, it’s a maroon car underneath all of its race car facade
You know you're in trouble when you ask "how much" and the mechanic asks you to sign an organ donor card..
Everyone needs a ninja friend
Great Team work Elliot!
"...figuring out where it's going to mount." You actually ARE narrating a nature documentary!
😂
As a long time Italian car mechanic, I would have sanded the flywheel surface, and more important would have tried soaking the release bearing in gear lube, then letting it drip off , it sounded metal on metal when spun.
Enjoyed that Elliot! looking forward to more! thanks!
Thanks for watching Joe!
All these years watching Hoovie and JR and I had no idea German Motor Works (Ninja & Mike) also had a long running RUclips channel.
I was looking at old maseratis yesterday... they’re so cheap it’s tempting but this is exactly why i haven’t bought one for fun lol
Yeah the purchase price is cheap. The rest of it... not so much. Lol
Happy for you!! Great video
Great Video! Who would have thought Witchita would be the home of the best automotive RUclipsrs!
Wichita is the Hollywood of automotive RUclips it seems! Lol
Once my shop building is done, I am going to have to look at one of those lift tables. There are dozens of times that I can think of that something like that would have saved me a lot of time and aggravation.
The Table is a really cool tool. I can see how having one would come in handy
@@ElliottAlvis First Porsche motor I pulled was using jackstands and a a motorcycle jack. Worked but wasn't fun. Hopefully I will be puttinf a lift in at the new house so one at some point I will make an excuse to buy one of these tables.
Fantastic video. I learned a ton. It still must be bad PR though for buying a Maserati coupe. What a horrendous challenge, but what an incredible video, so well done.
Thank you Jonathan! The coupe and spyder from this generation are the last of their breed as far as being difficult to work on and having proprietary parts. They got a lot more ‘parts bin’ after this.
@@ElliottAlvis y-w. This makes the bmw m6 6mt look like reliable, cheap and simple. Johnny wants to do a video on my e92m3 rod bearings next month. Should be great.
I have a 2006 GranSport 4.2 V8. It’s been missed with Larini decats, Tubi exhaust, Firmula Dynamics Drive by wire, ECU tune, lowering springs and beefier sway bars. This car is an animal…for how heavy it is. People fail to realize is that this is a GT and NOT a Sports car. These cars are built for high speed traveling…150 mph +…all day long….sure it’s finicky, but that is just the passion coming out. Porsches are a penny a dozen…it’s like driving a Mercedes/BMW/Audi…..NO PASSION. This gentlemen forgot to mention that this is a 3200 Twin Turbo V8…a classic car. A lot of reviews of these cars are done with poor examples of the marque…because maintenance is so HIGH…but it’s worth it. I always get looks and thumbs up and everyone wants to race me. 0-60 -> 4.4/4.7 top seed 180+ with a normally aspirated V8…no hair dryers attached….just 4.2 liters and 420ish horsepower with my modifications. This car also pulls like a scolded dog and NEVER runs out of breath. So yourself a favor….buy a Maserati, a good example….don’t be cheap, do the maintenance and my GOD lose the boring Porsche/Mercedes/BMW/Audi blahness…..do something different for once. You WON’T regret it.
Big shutout to car Ninja for putting up with all the witch-cha-ta car RUclipsrs, he is the man.
Elliott, you are slowly becoming my favorite RUclips channel.
And yes, I watched your video before Hoovies.
Looking forward to the next video.
Ninja sets his lift to make sure you are getting on his level.
I much prefer to watch Elliott’s videos first, before I watch the other Wichita RUclipsrs. Elliott always answers any questions or comments of mine, but none of the others have ever done so. I am only talking about my experience and not anyone else’s.
I appreciate it Mitchell. You’ve been a supporter since day one!
@@ElliottAlvis See, this is what I am talking about! Thank you so much, Elliott
@@mitchellbarnow1709 no, Mitchell, thank YOU!
Scratch Maserati off the list of cars I would ever consider owning, my wallet isn't deep enough. Johnny is the man though, he made this look easy!
Johnny makes everything look easy!
Nice to see Tavarati getting some love! That first time you got on it! Your face!!! Totally worth it.
It was so worth it! I can’t wait to drive it more once it warms up outside!
@@ElliottAlvis No worries about a used clutch or flaky throwout bearing? Maybe it just looked sketchier in the video than it does in person.
@@ModelA eh, the throwout bearing on my Corvette is in worse shape. The clutch is better than it looked on camera. But the decision had to be made and Johnny was already doing me a huge favor so I couldn’t tie up his lift for another week while waiting for a new bearing that had about as much life left as the clutch itself.
@@ElliottAlvis Understood. When you bud is doing you a solid like that, you want to accept the kindness graciously!
Really enjoy your videos! Are you planning on getting a head unit soon to stop those annoying hazards?
Yes, I need to figure out if that will actually fix the issue and if I can just get any head unit without it becoming locked due to the VIN or something. But it’s in the works!
Saw you on Hoovie’s channel and became interested in your clutch job...
Thanks for checking it out George!
Nice work guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Glad I found your channel.
I’m glad you did too Eric. Thanks for watching!
Nice job Johnny!
At least you got a clutch now.
Wait, we got a car ninja and a car wizard....what next, a car knight or bard?
Lol maybe the Car Jester
I’m starting to think Westen Champlin is the Car (or truck) Jester!
cheers to 100k soon with good content like this
Thanks! Here’s hoping 🤞🏻
You are doing well with the narration of the work as it gets done.
Thanks! I tried my best lol
At latest you don't have to worry about the F1 pump, the pump is very expansive and you have to program the clutch (F1 version) with special computer...so DIY is not likely
Happy for you, I hope it will last at least those 10,000 miles, now just wait for dry asphalt to properly try it. Because it is impossible to watch to videos at once, after Tyler I watch this one as well.
It’s so cool how all you guys that are You-tubers end up at Ninjas. What is it about Kansas and youtube? Good group of guys!!
Used cutch with 10k left for 500, idk with the cost of the labor id spend the 1700 for brand new. Just me though, I wouldn't want to do that job again in a few years
I’m realistically not going to put more than a couple thousand miles on this car in the next few years. But I totally get what you mean. If I was in a different financial position I would’ve gone for a brand new one!
@@ElliottAlvis that's honest. Once you reach your 100k subscribers later this year that problem wil be solved 👍. Greetings from the Netherlands
What brand of rims are they? I Like the style and color. Wounder if they'd fit on my 2018 for fusion.
Great video Elliot! Best of luck with that car! I hope your channel grows,
Don’t forget, look into a classic Mercedes lol
Thanks man, still on my list!
Next job......cup holders LOL. Johnny is the man!
I've done this 6 times with the Porsche 944. First time took 16 hours, last time I used 7 hours (In my driveway with a car jack and some axle stands.)
Oh wow! That’s a lot of Clutch changes! It sounds like you’re a pro now.
@@ElliottAlvis Did a big mistake and bought a used flywheel and a used clutch. Turned out that the clutch plate was warped. Had to do the same job the next day... The fun with transaxles :)
Learn to drive ;)
Nice job!!!! 👍👍👍
The Car Ninja is the man!
It seems like this job could have been easier if they had just used a drive shaft instead of a torque tube. I have a 2006 Corvette with an automatic because I didn’t want to have to deal with clutch replacement. I believe the process is similar with the clutch up from and the transmission in the rear.
Some say the bark is worse then the bite,
Now she bite's on command lol

Draw bearings (throw out bearings) … see ya in 10,000 miles … still worth it? I’d still get ☝️ one … terrific motor!
ha i felt like i was watching Hoovies 2nd channel here! good stuff
Always good having an extra pair of hands. Trust me I know when I did the clutch on my Porsche 944
In this case we needed 2 extra sets of hands! 😳😂
If you were looking for a second 944 Watchjrgo is selling his.
Elliot, can you get a clutch and throwout bearing from FCP Euro?? Then you'd at least have a lifetime warranty on those parts.
Happy Hump Day Elliott!
Thanks Sock!
Jonny is the best. Period.
On the 3200gt Maserati claims you have to replace it after ridiculous low wear. (Just because they want to cover up another flaw of the car. (The 2 thin parts that push/pull the clutch) reinforce those and you can use the clutch until you are on bare metal.
The Car Ninja friggin rules Baby!!!
He is such a good guy and a lights out mechanic too!
getting it done Ninja. awesome

You should check the bearing model number, and order it from somewhere else. A regular bearing supplier, just make sure, that you are getting a good name brand one.
