Thank you for such a thoughtful, compassionate reaction to this. Ren's friend was called Joe Hughes, and hundreds of thousands of people who never met him know how much of his light glows in Ren. We never know how important we are to the people whose lives we touch, or how far the ripples will spread. ❤

Exceptional reaction to an exceptional human being. I've always struggled with expressing emotions I didn't have names for, relying heavily on sensitives and empathetic to fill in the gaps of my emotional intelligent IQ, that was always on the low spectrum. Ren is that rare sweet genius that has traveled into the abyss and returned to share the voices he has heard, to give all of us the ability to feel more human. Ren will change the course of world music for decades to come. A true Shakespeare of our era. Rb

One thing I've always believed is that artists create from desperation. They experience the world differently from the rest of us, and their art is the language they use to interpret their experience through a medium others can understand. Artists, in their many manifestations, elevate us all toward divinity.

Ren's work is a process. It is a process in learning how to look deeper, in learning how to accept, in learning how to heal. It is also a process in learning to turn that newly-expanded empathy outward to others. Welcome to the Tide which lifts all ships.

Man, I've said it before and I'll say it again, there are so few reactors that I stick around to listen much past their final thoughts, yours I can't turn off if I wanted to. You are so heartfelt and passionate, not only about the music, but the humanity behind that music. When I get back on my feet financially one of the first luxuries I'm going to afford myself is joining your Patreon. A lot of the songs you react to aren't even my cup of tea, but I still watch for your commentary.
I know it's hard to put into words, and this is no slight on non musicians and I'm barely one from my younger days, and working part time as a sound engineer, but I find when one knows what it takes, and what goes into making music, making a song that touches people, that it makes it that much more amazing just how talented Ren is, how all things music and story telling flow through his veins and ooze from every pore of his body. I hope you make it a New Years goal to do more Ren, he has such a wonderfully diverse catalog of music, it's a wonderful rabbit hole to venture down.
On a personally note, while at the same time not being too personal with your business, or setting off any youtube red flags that get either of us in trouble, being partially retired and approaching old fart status, I've made it a goal to be more informed about the world I live in outside my little corner of the world. The last couple years have been following many things on a geopolitical and global scale. Anyway, I know you've mentioned in the past that you are from Lebanon, or I'm pretty sure you did, not sure if that's where you're located or you just have friends and family there, but I truly hope that you, your family n friends, and your homeland will get the through the turmoil and tensions that are flaring in that part of the world, and that they find peace and tranquility in life on the other side of these conflicts. I don't know how else to say my thoughts n prayers are with you and yours in secular way, hope that didn't sound corny, thanks again for a great reaction as usual!

I just want to say, from the very bottom of my heart. Thank you 🙏🏻❤️ this whole RUclips thing is so surreal sometimes, like I know I don’t know you, and you don’t know me, but somehow we’re able to connect while we’re thousands of miles away. If I could reach across this thing and give you a hug I would. I am in Lebanon. It is what it is 🙂, I hope things get better, I hope the world gets better, and I hope one day I get to meet you and all the other amazing humans and we get to sit and talk about music and life and all the great things that make us all human. Much love to you from Beirut ❤️ (#extracorny)

So true Arab Man. Ren does watch reactors who showcase his stuff and replies. I hope to heck he sees this one . Maybe you can interview him? He is very open to sharing his story and music. That’s his purpose. His gift. You
Nailed it perfectly. I live that gift of doing the right thing always and lifting up others who need a shoulder or talk or me just lettimg others know we are better as a team in life then miserable alone etc. you get my drift. Keep doing what you are doing. It matters

Ren is like a pied piper and he will take you on a wonderful journey if you follow him. He will fill the journey with emotion, take you to dark places with his words and themes at times, but keep you safe with the beauty of the instrument. Other times he will fill you with smiles and laughter at his cheeky lyrics in some songs. He is not shy in poking fun at the world around him, and himself when there is need. Sometimes subtle, sometimes with the force of a bulldozer. Ren always makes you think, stretches your perceptions and brings awareness of topics too little discussed. He is a chameleon, a bard, an actor, a poet, a composer, a singer, and musician with the distinction of being a virtuoso in all of those, and more. Enjoy your discovery of the multi facets of Ren.

His band The Big Push, his collaborations with Sam Tomkins and Chinchilla are worthy reactions. Hope you are well, with so much going on in the world your voice is very important.

That was such a beautiful and powerful reaction to Ren's music. I think the thing that makes Ren so special to so many of us is that he is able to express himself with music in a way that you experience rather than just listen to. That is a very rare and unique talent that it is hard to put into words exactly what that thing is that draws us to his music, but I think you really described it well. Ren is a creative force of nature, and that your reaction centered so profoundly on creativity really touched my heart. It's so important that those of us on the other side of the screen remember that we are creative beings too, so thank you so much for the inspirational reminder. It is so easy to feel worn down in this chaotic world. Even just the daily grind sometimes makes you tired before you even get out of bed. Your reaction was the perfect antidote to that. I hope you continue on your Ren journey. I can definitely use more reactions like this one in my life - I've subbed.

I am suffering myself from double depression, chronical depersonalization, anxiety disorder and a chronic pain disorder. Suicide thoughts (but not plans) are a regular part of my life. In 2020 I lost a brother in mind and heart by suicide.
I never had anyone I could have so much fun with and do stupid / crazy things. That's something I never do but with him it was possible.
And we shared our dark side, told us about our demons.
It still hurts as hell and just thinking about that one movement and what came next (he killed himself with a rope) makes me feel miserable and sad and empty. I can feel so much with what describes here.
This piece of art hits so hard. This hits so deep! Again and again.
So honest. So true. So brutal. So painful: Emotionally and even physically.

I don't really do fandoms or fanservice.. I believe in single songs and albums over artists as a whole.
Ren may be one of the very few exceptions to this general rule.
purely because I have listened to most of his catalogue and have yet to find a single stinker.
That said, I will join the chorus of those who say that you HAVE to do the Jenny and Screech trilogy (Full).
it is composed of 3 songs that tie together in one single narrative that grips you until the gut punch in the final lines.
It is narration through music at levels that I have encountered only a handful of times.
To give you a hint, think of Tarantino's Pulp Fiction .

I first met Joe when I was 8 years old, my friend Josh said I had to meet this guy, so we both walked over to his, it took about 10 minutes from my house. I was greeted by this kid covered head to toe in freckles, he grinned at us, climbed onto the back of his sofa and screamed “Swanton Bomb!” then front flipped off the top and landed right onto his back on a stone floor. He lay still for a moment, twitched a few times, then got up, grinned at us, brushed himself off, and did it again.
This was Joe. He’d do anything to make people laugh. He ended up becoming one of my best friends. He was there when we stole our first cigarettes out of his mum’s pack, way too young. He was there when I had my first kiss, with a girl twice my size on the back of the 42 bus. He was there when I first got so drunk I threw up in the woods after drinking as much White Lightning Cider as we could. I was there when he did his first backflip on skates, and saw him do a 720 off of the pier cave, that moment became legendary.
Joe was the funny one in our friend group, he’d make us laugh till it hurt. No one had a bad word to say about him. It was impossible not to like him. Usually we put celebrities, athletes and actors on pedestals, turn them into role models and admire them from a far. The person I admired was Joe.
He knew every word to the songs I’d write, we’d get drunk at parties and they’d be singing along as loud as they could. It gave me a lot of confidence back then.
On Christmas Eve 2010 I was sitting in a pub with Joe, he’d been feeling low after a couple of consecutive break ups. He tried to check himself into a mental health outpatient facility a few weeks earlier but they turned him away because he didn’t have an appointment. He turned to me and said that sometimes he wished he could just walk into the sea and keep walking. He said it in a kind of half joking throw away comment type of way, then took a sip of his drink, walked over to the juke box and put Dig by Incubus on.
If I knew that was the last time I’d see Joe I’d have hugged him, told him how much I loved him, how much I looked up to him, how much we all loved him, and I wouldn’t have left that pub. I didn’t know that, so I finished my drink, said Happy Christmas and left.
Two nights after Christmas I got woken up by a phone call at 3am, it was my friend Ella. She told me Joe was on the Menai Bridge, a large suspension bridge connecting the main land to the Isle of Anglesey where we lived. He’d been on the phone to her in tears saying goodbye. He told her to tell everyone he loved them. I pulled on my clothes as fast as I could and started running toward the bridge. It was up a hill. I lived about a ten minute walk away, I could run it in five. As I ran I started dialling then redialing his number. The line was busy, which was a good sign, it meant he was still on the phone to someone.
As I got about halfway, the busy tone changed. It told me the line was out of service. I got a sinking feeling and picked up my speed. I arrived to the bridge minutes after I left my house. It was deafeningly quiet. I was the first person to arrive. I got there probably about 2 minutes too late.
    Joe’s body was never found.
Initially we refused to believe he was gone. The coastguard came out that night, with boats, and helicopters. Me and my friends spent the next 10 days putting up missing posters everywhere we could, walking up and down beaches with flashlights, getting about 3 hours sleep a night. When you’re walking up and down a beach with a torch when its dark everything looks like a body. We still haven’t found Joe.
As his birthday came around, I wrote a song, Freckled Angels, a song I dedicated to Joe which I sang in front of his friends and family. A charity football match was put on for him, raising money for the RNLI where I won two bottles of wine in a raffle, I drank them both as quickly as I could, naturally, turned to my friend and probably slurred something along the lines of “This is the last time I ever drink” That was 12 years ago, I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol since.
My first ever album I named Freckled Angels in tribute of one of the best people I ever knew.
Skip forward some years. I’d been sitting on this song I wrote a few years ago. It always felt a little incomplete. It was going to be my next release, but I was dreading it because of this feeling of incompletion. I decided, very last minute, to do something about it.
I sat by my piano, and the rest of the song fell out of me. I hadn’t thought about Joe in a little while, and the song initially wasn’t going to be about him, but the words all fell out of me. I wrote and recorded a whole 2 minutes extra, recording each part as I wrote it. Tears spewing out of my eyes pretty much the whole time, and decided not to do my usual thing of perfecting each line, I just recorded every line as it came.
That song is Ren’s latest single Suic*de. During the campaign for the single he raised money for the RNLI, and also donated 50% of the profit on all copies of the ‘Freckled Angels’ album directly to Joe’s family.

Beautiful reaction I really feel you've grasped just how special Ren is with only 2 videos which is amazing insight. Please check Money Game 3 for a glimpse of how far he has come both musically and his ability to capture the art of story telling.

Boudy, I and many others have thanked you many times for your thoughtful and so humane reactions, but this, today, is something of a miracle. I was in a very dark place and your words, just your words, were a hand extended to me. I am looking up again, ready to just do the one thing. I have no words with which to thank you, just know that you are a light. ❤‍🩹
