    No mind - no matter how powerful - could ever honestly claim to be free from deception, or unknown unknowns.
    Episode 2 "Where No God Treads":
    • Where No God Treads (P...
    The problem with using the bible as "proof" of God’s existence and nature, is that even if all the events within its pages actually occurred, it could still not prove God for the simple reason this video points out: God might not be the God you think He is, or even the God He thinks He is. The most likely scenario, however, is that He is a construct of the people.
    Man created God in his image.
    Try to watch this video in HD if you can. It makes a huge difference.
    Some critiques deserve answers. I'll do that at the bottom of this description.
    This video is the pilot episode of “Power Corrupts”. Whether or not I make any more episodes, and eventually seasons, will largely be determined by you. I will consider this video’s view count, rating, and comments when making my decision to continue or not. Thanks for watching! Please share it with others if you enjoyed it.

    One interesting critique is that removing someone's memories will remove who they are, thereby making it pointless to test them. My response is that in our daily activities, we usually need not actually recall the memories that factored into those activities. You know the alphabet, for instance, but how well do you remember learning it, and need you recall those memories in order to read these words? This is why, in the cartoon, I leave the subconscious intact. Of course, this is entirely fictional, and as the professor said "all CURRENT memories" will be removed, so by "current" perhaps that could mean anything that would hinder the perception of godhood, like the knowledge that you're being tested.
    Another interesting point is that power doesn't actually corrupt, it accentuates, makes you more of who you are. I don't really have a response to this other than "power corrupts" is a bit of a saying and in this case the semantics seem negligible, seeing as how the purpose of the test would remain intact. In either interpretation, they're trying to find out "who Yahweh really is".

    This cartoon took me 20 days to create. I'm working on streamlining my workflow, so that I can more easily turn this into a regular series without such a long wait between episodes, if it does become a series. Should this storyline continue? If so, where do you think I'll take this plot? Where do you think it should go? I don't want to work in a vacuum here, and your input is extremely valuable to me. Thanks, everyone.

      I would go far beyond your statement...
      As a hobby writer I would like you to always remember that an author/writer/video maker/philosopher who creates a character is always *at least* as smart/good/bad as the character he created. I think in his "unexpected god"- video explains very well that a creator has not to be superior to the creation (in this case Jeffery) but *at least as smart*... Maybe Jeffery/Darkmatter would be a good leader, maybe not... But I think he is exactly at the right place, helping other seekers like us to find what we're so desperately looking for... Maybe you will become president instead of him because of the wisdom he taught you... I hope you get my message, all the best to you :)

    I love all of the symbolism that obviously played a role in Yahweh's subconscious decisions in his universe. First of all his mom which is the only nice person to him I'm assuming where's that floating circle thing around her head which Yahweh then makes all of his angels wear. Next we have his father who views women as lesser than males, which is why women are considered property on the bible. He makes the weaker kid pay him for protection from him, this is very similar to how he protects people from the hell he created in exchange for blind worship. In the lecture room you can see the number "42" on a door, 42 is considered to he the meaning of the universe on the Internet. And finally Yahweh was student number 7, and we all know that within the christian faith 7 is considered the holiest number.
    If I missed any symbols someone please let me know.

    Wow! What an interesting concept: entering a simulated universe with no memories and only your subconscious. And also, thousands of years in the simulation is only a few minutes in real life. I wonder if we will one day be able to make technology advanced enough to do that.

    • @geoffreybrunell5592
      @geoffreybrunell5592 9 лет назад +7

      I once thought about that concept of going into a virtual reality with no memories, but I never thought about it like playing God. I actually thought about it like some sort of virtual prison, where you are in a world in which you have to survive forever.

    • @newCoCoY6

      @Avenging Demon im all in for extending our experience. I only have at best 100 years to live on earth, if i could find a way to make it feel like 100,000 years on earth, id gladly take VR over death.

    • @newCoCoY6
      @newCoCoY6 5 лет назад +4

      @Avenging Demon since when did Virtual Reality have brainwashing? just because this video had memory wiping in its story doesnt mean VR does as well. Best one could do is give you a terrible nightmare. Heck the one above our comment talks about a virtual prison. If i was a prisoner and had to spend 1000 years in prison, i would rather do it in VR than spend those years rotting IRL. If you argue about an innocent person being thrown into a 1000 year VR prison and see that as monstrous, how is that any different if a corrupt military official throws you in jail for 100 years and die of old age? The technology can definitely be used the wrong way, but so do other everyday things in life honestly.

    Holy mother of God this could be better than the matrix! The starting story was AWESOME! You are AWESOME! Incredible!! My favorite video you've ever done.
    You could throw Jesus in there somehow, that he is God but also different, explain that as a personal conflict of maybe him wanting to be a good person. Maybe you could have flash backs of him having experiences with his dad and mom more, Lucifer can be a girl that broke up with him, the angels can be his stuffed animals or GI joes or Pegasus people or whatever people play with in the future.
    He could have an older brother that he hates, that's why he demands firstborns and attempts to kill them and does kill them and also views them as more important, because his dad did.
    You could end the simulator at 0 AD and there could be a 2nd half of the test, where you run the simulation while conscious, YHWH could realize he is on the wrong track and that could be why Jesus who is also himself changes things, to try to be more loving, yet it is still him, and he could reason that's why he is not in the system, that its running on his phone or something, and its like a project that takes a few days or weeks or months, and he sort of ignores it.

    If I had to take the test:
    1) I wouldn't create evil in the first place.
    2) I would actually show my existence.
    3) I would try to befriend my creation myself, not leave an old book full of (unbelievable) superstitious crap that everyone interprets differently and no one can agree to try to convince them I'm real.. They can choose to be my friend or not... If they don't want to be friends I'm
    not going to get butthurt and punish them for eternity in an afterlife like someone *caugh caugh*
    4) I'm going to give everyone magic powers, the ability to fly, and pet dragons.
    5) No one ever has to die.
    6) they dont need to worship me, they are my friends, not my minions.

      In the video they tell about speaking to god in a cave, after that speaking to god on a mountain (greek gods), after that god in the sky and now we are with god outside of space and time. In time people have moved god farther and farther away to be able to make your argument: you can't disprove he isn't there.
      If you make extraordinary claims you need evidence, otherwise you have no foundation for your believes. If you make claims without evidence you are crazy. If I tell you I believe in the flying spaghetti monster or in a pink unicorn that farts black holes you can't disprove that. If I don't have strong evidence for these claims people will call me crazy.
      Watch all the video's of darkmatter, I hope you will discover that you believe in fiction and nothing more.

      The idea of such a society being anywhere near functional is nonsensical. Removing one's memories makes one unaware of the test but it also removes most of their personality. The creator of this video incorrectly assumes that people are prone to "corruption" by nature. Also it's funny how this society is presented as near utopian when concepts such as currency are still a thing.

Nobody acts they way they act based on their "original nature", I don't think that even exists, but on the sum of all your experiences. Yes, character plays a part in it, but only a part, kind of a general influence to the mixture, and it also evolves and it's affected by it. Your mistakes teach you lessons. The intro episode is excellent in that respect, and I'd definitely like to see it expanded upon. Perhaps his dad tried to get him to swim as a kid by throwing him into the pool and making him almost drown, and that's what inspired him to drown everyone else in Noah's Flood. Great work in any case.

      I'd like this event explained in a similar way to your Flood idea, maybe with a flashback about Yahweh's father "dangling carrots" in front of him, as the expression goes. The father's impossibly high standard for his son would also seem to be a factor.

Most are easily influenced by their surroundings. So when these people acquire power, and realize they can use it for personal gain, they will throw away whatever principles they once had, and serve their own selfish interests.

    I'm a Biomedical Engineer and an Amateur Theoretical Quantum Physicist. I have my own beliefs about God. My point here is, in physics, there are a lot of things that could sound "supernatural" to average people, like the light's duality between waves and particles 'cause it kinda looks it behaves both ways, there's also time travel (theoretically possible), superposition principle (two particles/objects in different places at the same time), parallel universes, string theory, etc... I'm really open-minded, so the idea of an actual existing God does not sound "strange" to me. I see it from another perspective, I don't see the "human-made God" that most people see, I see him/her/it like our universe itself... it's hard to describe it in simple words. I really like your videos 'cause you criticize that "human-made God" I was talking about. I hate how people tell me that God is gonna punish us just 'cause we don't use to go to the church. I think that if God exists, he/she/it will not care about that, but being a good person to others, a good human being.

      Indeed, you should look at UCADIA they have some interesting things...
      Los padres, su fin ulterior, así les odiemos y nos vallamos de casa, es que estemos bien, seamos gente hecha y derecha y seamos independientes y buenos, eso es todo, no se espera adoración, creo como tú, que Dios no es un ser benevolente y al mismo tiempo lo opuesto, iracundo. Esa es mas bien la descripción de un hombre que con un traguito de alcohol se vuelve dicharachero y super buena nota, pero con 10 tragos encima se vuelve un energumeno violento.
      UCADIA explica que Dios es la suma de todas las conciencias de todos los seres vivos que pululan el universo (Unique Collective Awareness), ellos creen al igual que yo hago, que si el fin de Dios eramos nosotros con un espacio del tamaño de este sistema solar bastaba para todos sus fines, y este sistema solar es espantosamente gigantesco, apenas hemos llegado a la Luna y es mucho decir, apenas pusimos un robot con ruedas en Marte, pero el creó un universo aún mas grande? Como para que? Resulta que ni el planeta es el centro de este sistema solar, ni este sistema solar es el centro de la via lactea, nuestra galaxia, y que esta no es la unica galaxia que existe, sino que hay miles mas y quizas mas de las mas lejanas que se logran divisar, eso es demaciado gigantesco para nosotros, es como poder hablar con una hormiga y hablarle del monte Everest cuando para ella un puño nuestro de arena es demaciado, así que habiendo tanto espacio, tantos sistemas solares, tantas galaxias, tiene que existir vida extraterrestre a juro, es impensable que seamos los unicos. Y la conciencia de estos alienigenas también es parte de Dios.
      La mente o conciencia colectiva e incluso el inconsciente colectivo de Jung, por ahí empiezan los tiros pero esta gente va mas lejos es realmente interesante, esta todo en inglés, tienen incluso un modelo cientifico para cada elemento desde su concepción atómica y como esto construye fractamente los macro modelos que terminan saliendose de nuestros niveles medibles, pero entonces se entiende como estan estructuradas las cosas. El creador de UCADIA insta a cientificos de cualquier rama a indagar en esos modelos y hacer pruebas para encontrar fallas o ampliarlos.

    • @sk8erboi66ericko
      @sk8erboi66ericko 10 лет назад +1

      Yeah! Gracias Hombre. Yo pienso que Dios es el universo en si. Es la única manera en la que todo tiene sentido. Dios está en todos lados al mismo tiempo - El universo está en todos lados al mismo tiempo. Dios no tiene inicio ni fin, es eterno. El universo no tiene ni inicio ni fin, es "eterno", ya que según la teoría del big crunch, únicamente se está ciclando. Tengo muchas más definiciones filosóficas como esta, pero aún trabajo en ellas.
      La forma religiosa de Dios, es el error del hombre de tratar de ver en un solo ente o ser, a todo lo grandioso, magnifico y poderoso que es el universo. Por esto ocurren tantas discrepancias, porque a Dios/Universo se le ve como hombre, y no como lo basto y capaz que puede ser.
      Saludos!

      sk8erboi66ericko Exacto, es como dice el concepto, el todo es la suma de las partes, la suma de todas las conciencias es su mente y su cuerpo es la suma de todas las cosas que existen (el universo mismo).

I think Democracy can be a great way to minimze corruption if just enough controls are in the System. The USA is still corrupt because there are only 2 parties who can make decisions, more need to be introduced. And also give power to those who don't want it

    I would love to see this series continue. I'm amazed at your dedication to making me laugh at the BS. I like the power corrupts idea, not new, of course, but what power could be more corrupting? I read a story once about a guy who was fat and unpopular and dreamed the god that made him was a sub-god left in control of his universe whilst the real, just, god was away having lunch or something. You are on a good track with this one. Power corrupts is at the heart of all religion, the biggest scam in human history. That, and next in line, the idea it is somehow noble to die for your nation state.

      Oh, and advise on where to take this one - the human love of cult of personality might be one thing to consider. You know, Kim Il Sung gives birth to Kim Jong Jesus or something. I been thinking about this...I know it's satirical but it would be pretty Orwellian and frankly assholish to base someone's future by their SUBCONSCIOUS behavior.
    Clearly Yahvew is raised in a fucked up family with a fucked up dad who's a total douche and has self-esteem issues. Clearly THAT also accounts for his behavior as he externalizes his hatred of his dad on the kids he bullies.
    Surely this is a major part of his experiment's flaw.
    In fact throughoutt the series we are shown that his real life events make him do stupid things that he might not otherwise do. His environment is the problem.
    And this "future world" is pretty distopian:
    - people still use money and have to hold a JOB, so wretched capitalism still forces people to slave away for a living
    - we get this orwellian "future predicter coupled with the soviet era style "job placement via tests, fuck your choice and wishes"
    - people are still shallow assholes ( the girl in episode 3 )
    Despite what the professor says, there is nothing good about this world. It is just the OLD world with new tech.
    ( Am i overanalyzing? :D )

      ***** Read Romans 3, you may not like it but everyone has an area of selfishness and assholery in their life even if it's just in the form of a condescending attitude. We are taught that we need a divine transformation in order to actually be fit for a utopian society.
      Sure religion is also corrupt, in fact most of it is actually confusing junk.
      The ultimate fate of those who reject this is not to suffer for eternity in a fire, but to be un-created, with the rest of this planet which has a date set for its demolition and is going to be restored to how it was at the beginning of the Bible. My question is "Are you on board or not?"

    • @Skinnymarks
      @Skinnymarks 9 лет назад +6

      Note, money is just a tool. Currently it works agenst us. But if we could make it work for us, I don't see why a utopian society wouldn't have money. It's a perfect way to transform anything into another thing. Almost like alchemy.
      And I don't see why a utopian society wouldn't still have assholes being assholes to eachother. Point being we don't put compleate assholes into power and society wouldn't have diarrhea running down hill onto everyone. It would only run down hill to their feet because they wouldn't be at the top of the power pyramid.

      ***** Agreed. The monster in our heads is not the person on the outside. How many of us do horrible things in our dreams? That's all this is; a dream. It would be much more sensible to rule out Yahweh as a potential leader for the bullying he does in real life. Well keep in mind this is the product of a kind of ret-con, and I'm guessing DM will address the civilization's problems in future episodes. It is Orwellian, reminiscent of the thought crime he's argued against in the past; I think that was the point.

    I have been a DarkMatter fan for a few years now and this video was dynamic, to say the least, compared to previous ones. I'll start off by saying that I agree with DarkMatter2525's comment in which he stated that this was best video from a technical perspective. I felt this video had less to do with criticizing Christianity and more with analyzing the scope of power through the lens of omnipotence. In doing so, it sort of felt like a series finale to me, especially because of the way the ending of the video supposedly was the foreword of the animated series thus far. I have to admit I am not totally convinced on the theme of the story. I recognized that DarkMatter wanted to show us how power is conceived through creation of religion and how that power corrupts. I have a hard time understanding his other theme that bestowed power leads to responsible care while power sought leads to greed. I assume the character with "25" on his shirt is representative of power bestowed- he helped the kid even though he at the time was not responsible for him. My best guess is that this is a representation of secular authority versus divine authority? What this would essentially mean is that power should be derived from necessity to use it, not from the intent to gain it for personal use. However I believe the video did not do an exemplary job tying all the links together, although I can certainly see how hard it is for someone to do that with the time it takes for an animation of this length and caliber. I enjoyed the aesthetics, voice acting, story, creativity, animation, and every other technical component of the video, I also enjoyed the deeper social and psychological look at the creation and maintenance of religion, although the way it was portrayed could have been bettered. I must say the story left me wanting a look at how each student took to their creation of their universe and how it would turn out for Yahweh and Jeffery, being that I believe a different character development could occur between the two now that we have back story. I would much like this to go to a series and I am already grateful to DarkMatter for having worked this hard on an animation. It would be most enjoyable if he could continue at this caliber of work, even if it took a month or so to produce each episode.

    • @enlightedjedi
      @enlightedjedi 10 лет назад

      This video could mark a shift in darkmatter's style if he so plans/wishes! To me it looked more like a stepping stone that a series finale. It could be a transition between more easy entertaining satire towards a more mature serious content. The task at hand is at all trivial! Animation was great!

    Everyone is going to think I'm crazy for my solution to power corrupts, but here it is: Greed, and other human traits are the main problem so we need something that is as smart as a human, but is not human. What would that be? Well in the near future it will be the machine.
    The machine will govern without ulterior motives, without ego, without emotion. It will rationalize our problems like a math problem to a calculator. This sounds very scary like a scene from a terminator movie, but putting Hollywood's Sci-Fi apocalypse aside this might just be the answer. The quote "Justice is blind" is quite fitting for this notion because in a way the machine is also blind meaning it will hold no biases, opinions, prejudices, or anything else that might interfere with its reasoning.

    • @TheGuardianofblind
      @TheGuardianofblind 10 лет назад

      It is not crazy at all, it is also what Zeitgeist project proposes. A human, even with the best intention's will never be able to take into consideration all factors before making decisions. Like, to decide whether to build a new power plant, one would have to be biologist, economist, sociologist, have degree in physics and chemistry etc., to decide what effect it will have on nature, how costly on resources it will be, whether the location is the best and so on. Most politicians only have degree in the politics, or maybe 1-2 other areas as well - there is no way they can humanly decide over all the variety of decisions presented to them without making mistakes.
      Computers would be able to take in all the important data at once and decide whether any new idea is worth it or not. Artificial intelligence does need to be advanced a bit still to make it possible, right now their decision making is at a level of 3 year old child :)

    • @Macintosh007

      I find your comment scary, but fascinating. I suppose like one robot in one country will have a communist mindset with some specific morals and the other robot with a capitalist morals with another set of morals. But who isn't to say the designer of those robots wont be corrupt o_O Unless they somehow programmed them self with pure logic somehow.

    • @munstrumridcully
      @munstrumridcully 9 лет назад

      But if a machine is truly sapient, what is to stop it from decidng, that by the parameters it has been programmed with, such as "goodness' and "fairness" and "logic" don't lead it to the conclusion that the "best" thing for humanity is for it to die off? or that the best thing for itself, or the cosmos, is for humanity, with all it's violence and illogical behavior, to die out. Also, we would run into the problem of what is "objectively good", does it rule by principle that the "needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few", if so, it might quite logically decide to kill off a large minority of humans to make life better (more food, more space, etc..) for the remainder. Who gets to decide what values are programmed into the computer, what parameters guide it's decision making? For me, *any* power over other sapient minds can be problematic, no matter what agent holds this power.
