  • This is an amazing recording of Willie Nelson and Family live from Panther Hall in Ft. Worth TX. The show begins with Whiskey River and Stay All Night, and then Willie begins to introduce his band. Each band member does a song and Willie is obviously having fun because he acts as if it is a talent show. Stating that Bee Spears was the next contestant before he did his rendition of Okie From Muskogee. The concert consists of two sets, an early and late one. The harmonica microphone is completely messed up for most of the show and Willie even acknowledged it mid show telling Mickey to "try a new mic." Sorry it is like that, it adds to the rawness of the show I guess.
There is an account from a young female who attended the concert. She stated that the early show started at 4 pm and that it went on for about an hour. Willie was hungry after the first show so the band proceded to head 10 minutes west towards Angelo's BBQ in Ft. Worth TX. The young lady was one of several fans who accepted an invited to go on Willie's bus and enjoy dinner with the band. She recalled going backstage through a long hallway and out to Willie's bus. The day before, it had snowed a few inches and tempertures hadn't yet risen above freezing. She remembers getting on the bus and it being warm. She sat down and waited until everyone was ready to go. The bus began to roll down the icy streets of Ft. Worth and at this point the sun began to set as it was 5:30 pm. The young lady said that Willie sat down next to her and offered her a joint which she gladly accepted. As she watched the sun set over a snowy Texas country side she couldn't believe her luck. She was smoking with Willie Nelson on his bus! The two talked about the first set and he asked her if there were any songs she would like the band to do. She told Willie "Proud Mary." In a flash they were at Angelo's and got their food. An hour later they headed back to the venue for a 7 pm late show. On the way back, the bus got stuck in the snow for 5 minutes but they made it back to Panther Hall just in time. The first song on the second set is "Proud Mary." This shows Nelson's ability to keep a promise and portrayed his love for his fans.
Hope you enjoyed as much as I did :) More to come!

Amazing. Panther Hall was an outstanding venue. It has been gone for since the 80's. Texas Wesleyan University purchased the property and the site is their TWU Rams Soccer Field.

I had the one album "Live From Panther Ball Room" that had a whole different set of songs. It had "opportunity To Cry" The Beatles song "Yesterday" and some of his earliest songs he wrote.
